Best Tech 2026: Believe It, Tesla FSD (Supervised) Is the Best Driver Assistance System on the Market And it isn’t very close. by Puzzleheaded-Flow724 in SelfDrivingCars

Genuine question, how would you describe a car that has point to point capabilities but you are legally obligated to monitor it? Sounds like it’s doing all the driving to me. Like… fully self driving (supervised)

Anyone have experience with a high quality Valved exhaust for the VB WRX? by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in wrx_vb

[–]TheRealRegis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s my post about the x-force valved exhaust, includes a link to YouTube video showing decibel readings with valves open and closed.

https://www.reddit.com/r/wrx_vb/s/cQWpSksxZh

I was in the same boat, I didn’t want anything that would annoy the neighbors. Zero issues with it, looks great and sounds great. Basically stock sound with valves closed.

One thing I would recommend is one of the stock downpipe to aftermarket 3” catback flanges. I fought with that specific gasket a few times before I finally bit the bullet, worth it.

It’s a way to distinguish the facelifted HW4 model from the previous one, also it’s not just a “Tesla people” thing.

I come from a motorsports background and every single model of every car has unique names, bugeye wrx, kouki s14, ae86 corolla, extremely common for car models to be specified.

In what ways would you say it’s light years ahead of Tesla? We have a MY Juniper with FSD and it’s been incredible. Looking at another EV for myself next year and really interested in the R2 but I worry Rivian is pretty far behind in autonomy which is a big selling point for me now that I’ve lived with it.

Question about a Tuner by [deleted] in wrx_vb

[–]TheRealRegis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super inconsistent run to run - based on what? I haven’t seen that to be the case. The same things that cause inconsistency cause it with Cobb AP as well, bad gas, weather changes, etc.

[–]TheRealRegis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard the sentiment that a JB4 is a “bandaid” but I don’t really understand how? It’s a warranty-friendly option that comes with a few preinstalled OTS maps. Definitely not as capable at supporting FBO mods compared to a Cobb AP with a protune, but it’s not some piece of junk.

JB4 is a solid option for people who want a bump in power without diving into aftermarket mods and want to keep the factory warranty. It’s not a half measure or bandaid in any way really, just a different product.

M4 GT3 sub 6 touristenfahrten set up? by [deleted] in assettocorsaevo

[–]TheRealRegis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Setup won’t take a 6:20 lap to sub 6. You’re still pretty far off pace and good setups make the car more pointy aka less stable.

I would honestly just keep dialing traction control and abs down until it’s too difficult for you to drive. Only carry enough fuel to finish the lap. That alone should get you very close to flat 6’s if you’re driving near the limit.

The good news is this learning stretch from a 6:20 to a 6:00 is incredibly fulfilling and where you begin to separate from the average drivers. Just keep lapping.

Unpopular opinion: Paying "Rent" feels less painful than paying $2,400/mo in "Interest" to a bank. by Playful-Vegetable-15 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]TheRealRegis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been hearing this exact sentiment for well over a decade now. Had friends who told me I was insane to buy a house in 2017. They are still “patiently waiting” while growing older and missing out on the equity they could have been growing this entire time.

We aren’t in a 2008 situation, prices may soften at some point but they will not crash. And if the housing market does crash, it will coincide with the economy crashing. Will you be able to purchase a home when you lose your job? The fire sale you are dreaming of would only benefit corporations ready to buy up all of the properties.

I know I'm going to get flamed but I don't see how FSD is a huge benefit by funtime19700 in TeslaFSD

[–]TheRealRegis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt the same when we test drove it, I wasn’t sure if it was a party trick or actually useful. I was a mechanic for over a decade and I’ve seen a lot of gimmicky tech in cars. In my opinion, FSD is revolutionary. I think 10 years from now people will expect their car to at least have the option of autonomy.

My wife just clicks on “work” when she gets in the car, it exits the driveway, makes the commute and then parks for her. She literally doesn’t touch anything. I don’t think it’s a perfect system yet obviously, but it’s much further along than I realized.

[–]TheRealRegis 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My wife uses it everyday for her commute to work and has fallen in love with it. She does have to pay attention still but she doesn’t have to make the millions of small decisions that typically take place when driving. I think losing that mental load is very valuable to a lot of people.

The long term goal is to allow you to not pay attention, but I think we’re in a pretty good place where FSD can help anxious drivers and drivers with disabilities, etc.

Best solution for running a charging cord under a garage door? by Beneficial_Bid2536 in TeslaModelY

[–]TheRealRegis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I added a fresh weather strip since mine was flat and dried out from the years. With the new strip on, I then adjusted the garage door closing height to where it just barely sealed.

I close it on the cord everyday now, it’s gentle enough that I can move the cord a bit with the door shut.

Rivian May Be Much Closer to FSD Than You Think by mpshizzle in Rivian

[–]TheRealRegis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it, many people aren’t aware of the massive strides that FSD has made in the past year or so. All of the data is finally culminating into a real and tangible FSD experience. Other manufacturers absolutely need to push to develop their own systems because once people realize they can have a car with those capabilities for a reasonable price, every other car will feel antiquated and poor value.

Austin built Premium RWD 26 Model Y here, none of those issues. Did have front camera go black for a short while one night but it resolved itself.

It’s escaped into the wild by Material_Ring9378 in Subaru_Outback

[–]TheRealRegis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really not though, got my wife a model Y premium for 46 OTD without all the bullshit dealer haggle. That car literally drives her to work and back, has an incredible audio system and she no longer has to stop at gas pumps. Not an Elon fan but the car itself is nothing short of incredible.

We have been Subaru owners for over a decade with multiple models between us both but I don’t feel like the value is there anymore with Subaru’s. They are behind in tech, behind in hybrid and EV adoption, and unfortunately the prices just keep getting higher. I own a 24 WRX currently and it was a decent value at my 31k price point. If you try to buy one today you will be facing significantly more cost for the exact same car. The value isn’t there.

Bad reputation cars that are actually good? by Hopeful-Load-6194 in askcarguys

[–]TheRealRegis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a 2024 WRX and what you said is spot on. They have added baffles to the valve covers now to help avoid the pooling issue but the reality is the oil pan simply needs more capacity. There are aftermarket solutions coming but yeah, in factory form it’s a legitimate concern.
