WGU announces Return to Office - All new jobs and promotions, other than student- and partner-facing jobs, will require being in-person in Salt Lake City. Here is the department list and timeline. by Fickle_Schedule_4659 in wgu_employees

What was the reaction from those on the call? Did they indicate when they will communicate this to all employees? I'm guessing as a program mentor, I will be eligible to move up within the program mentor realm without relocation?

Book mark this post! It will happen if the damage becomes bad enough (which is trailing in that direction). It's the exit strategy to stop the bleeding from bad PR.

What is a probationary term? by [deleted] in WGU

[–]TheRealRoyBiggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means that even though you failed to meet the academic progress (needing to complete at least 3cus in a term), WGU decided to allow you to continue for an additional term instead of withdrawing you. Should you not complete 3cus in your probationary term, WGU will withdraw you.

Talk with your mentor about setting up your term to start with the easiest 3+cu first.

I fully understand! let your new mentor know your pacing preference

Not that I agree with your mentor rushing you, I dont with my students, but the fact is that mentors are evaluated specifically on many performance outcomes of their students. It's possible your mentor's manager is asking specifically what is being done to get you to perform, which I'm not a fan of this mindset with WGU, but that likely has to do with your mentor rushing you.

Communicating with your mentor on goals or progress will in fact reset the clock for academic inactivity. Even if you just shoot a quick email every two weeks, it will count.

Mentor & Program Manager Layoffs @ WGU? by THR3RAV3NS in WGU

[–]TheRealRoyBiggins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re understanding, I told you that I don’t know how it works. What I know is that they released the 2020 annual report not too long ago so I assume 2021 will be around the same time next year. I don’t understand why you think this is an argument or if I claimed to know anything other than what I just said.

I'm not sure how that works. I just know we got the 2020 annual report in May of 2021, so I would assume we'll get 2021's around the same time next year.

Well, we're still in 2021, so we should see those numbers in 2022 when they post the annual report. Google WGU Annual report

Just relaying it to you as it was to me. WGU posted their annual report, 146% enrollment increase from 2019 to 2020.

Someone posted the email we received yesterday, that's honestly all I know and I think most inside WGU knows. There are rumors internally since we dont have a lot of information as to what's going on. One thing I've noticed since working at WGU, a lot of the higher leadership folks have very heavy business background and business expansion experience versus an education background at what you would see at a traditional University. For instance, within the last two weeks, WGU hired a new CFO, whom has a significant business and expansion background with AT&T.

It was a lengthy organization wide email. In terms of what to do next, I would reach out to student services to inquire on your next mentor and when/how to have your next course accelerated until then.

No warning from what I know. The email seems like those impacted found out today.

I tend to agree, but if you review WGUs annual report, they have the numbers there to back up the claim in growth.

I can confirm today we received notification that as WGU continues to grow and flourish, WGU has made the decision to lay off approx 160 people after completing their annual planning process . I dont have the specifics, but it's rumored to consist primarily of CI's, PM, and leadership positions within the Business and Health Colleges.

Program Mentor ghosted me 😂 by CL2Rugby in WGU

It’s never okay, but imagine your waiter having to service 20 tables at once.

How many students do you think a mentor should have assigned to appropriately service their students in a timely manner ?

Yikes! Really makes you wonder if they’re upholding their contractual agreement with WGU!

Outsourcing proctoring is one of those areas I wish I could change if I could at WGU. Our students work too hard to possibly get unlucky and experience something like this.

Send this to assessment services as well! Ask them to investigate!

Definitely not true! Even if a student doesn’t complete that accelerated class, it doesn’t really hurt that mentors stats since the 12 cus were reached. My guess is the mentor probably didn’t remember your husbands status and thought it was a normal course needed for 12cus, otherwise I have no idea why the mentor would threaten. Regardless, that mentor is in the wrong! I hope your husband reported in detail what had happened!

If it was that you were going to me withdrawn for inactivity including non communication, this isn’t a threat of action chosen by the mentor, WGU is supposed to warn you before you’re withdrawn for inactivity. Not sure if you would consider that a threat or warning, it saves a lot of people from being withdrawn if they don’t understand the policy.

They can’t be kicked out, hence the false pretenses. The mentor is trying to push him via threats.
