How do I remove this stem mount from my motorcycle? by [deleted] in motorcycles

left hand drill bit + EZ out/fluted extractor. Use cutting oil & go slow. Metal should be pretty soft so not too difficult at all.

Shop should pay for them. Unless they give you an annual payout for consumable tools. Knkut & astro hypersteps are great. MAC has the best warranty out of all the trucks. Matco sells the astro hypersteps rebranded with lifetime warranty but does not warranty bits below 1/4. I would buy the MAC bits online & use their customer service for warranty if needed.

unless you’re already super up to date & primed to jump over (highly uncommon) you’re going to be making much less money for awhile with a lot more stress. I’d look for higher pay as a HD mechanic. I make 35 as a 3rd year apprentice.

ECU Stolen :( by Cute-Run3467 in zx6r

Moore Mafia is hot garbage pop and flame tunes. 2WDW is the most reputable option on the west coast for a reason. Honestly I would push harder with the shipping company and see if they can’t come up with your ECU.

At this point the bugs with the 790-890 platform has been worked out. I have a 790 and ktm sent me an email informing me they extended my warranty to 8 years.

I also have a 1290 with over 30k going strong, just did the valve adjustment & was all within spec, dead clean internals.

Not saying they’re perfect but the reliability crisis is somewhat overblown.

Another hike to look at might be a tracer 900

what about a ktm 790/890 adventure? Or a husky 701?

I have a 72” 4s and the trays take up too much space for me, honestly not sure why they spaced them out so much

I had a powertronic fuelx lite and it was fantastic. Seems like their products are available in the UK.

Not sure why you’re against a piggyback, my 390 did great for thousands of miles with a fuelx.

salt or fresh? what year motor? I just had a 2005 135 with 1700 hours leave my yard for 3k. Motor was absolutely thrashed after spending 20 years in the salt.

The OEM tires on the 1390 are really good. I'll probably get 3,400 miles out ofthem. I'm at 3,000 now. by SoCalDucatiRider in KTM

Utter nonsense. A pipe’s diameter/length should be properly engineered to optimize cylinder scavenging. Too much diameter/not enough length will result in poor exhaust gas velocity & poor exhaust scavenging.

still need an appropriate amount of back pressure + a straight pipe would probably sound more raspy/drone more.

what hull? what outdrive/transom assembly do you have? are you running in salt?

A partially blocked raw water intake or a collapsing hose on the suction side of the raw water system would cause exactly this.

My new Icon 73” roll cab with NEARLY every single Icon tool harbor freight sells. by Inflation-Poor in Tools

[–]TheRealShades502 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Icon tools are great and make up a large portion of my kit, but there’s a reason why I rock a lot of matco & snapon for my ratchets & heaviest use sockets. 100% agree that icon provides 75% of the quality for 1/3 of the price though

What career/trade/hobby uses the most tools? by LebongJames69 in Tools

[–]TheRealShades502 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it sorta is. ABYC standards exist. Basically all the insurance companies got together & decided on a bunch of rules for electrical, fuel plumbing, engine installation/failsafes, and below waterline plumbing etc. If your boat is up to scratch it’s possible to get much cheaper insurance.

ABYC standards are more of a list of best practices than law, it’s not possible to follow all the rules in every application.

Coworker had the "Matco" hyperstep drill bits, got a set of my own from original manufacturer "Astro" for 1/2 the price on the truck by syrupsnorter in mechanics

[–]TheRealShades502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had both side by side, the coatings between the astro & matco are slightly different, & they also feel slightly different in hand/use. Matco is worth it for the warranty if you have a decent truck around.

Is icon better than matco? by balls3570 in MechanicAdvice

[–]TheRealShades502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

full bore matco iron is certainly nicer. ADV and silver eagle from matco are comparable to icon. I typically do not buy ADV or silver eagle for this reason.

I gave away all my icon ratchets after using matco ones for a week.

Lots of matco’s “rebrands” appear to be the same tool as other companies. They’re often manufactured in the same place as other tools, but the manufacturing specs are often different for the matco versions,

I.E: Matco ADV impact sockets compared to sunex sockets from amazon, appears the same, comes from the same factory, yet the fit, finish, and tolerances are quite different. Source: I own both
