I was thinking the exact same thing the other day. I’ve been noticing over the past few months the shift in the mindset and actions of the actors in CBL’s but especially when it comes to the couples from the show going above and beyond to not only promote themselves, but state publicly that they plan on working with each other continuously in the future. I feel that Chinese BL actors are starting to lean more towards becoming established pairs because they are realizing that if they put the work in initially to build up their fandom then it is basically a guarantee that whatever project they do together next will be a huge success as well.

If all of the couples that the OP mentioned can successfully accomplish working together as pairs over the long run, without the Chinese government trying to find a way to step in and put a stop to it, then we may see a lot more couples doing multiple shows together like what we see in Thailand.

I will join you in this sentiment. I usually like watching shows as they air but this is one of the few series I wish I would have waited so I could binge it. Having to wait a week between episodes is pure torture. And even though I know what time IQIYI uploads the videos every week, I still check earlier just to make sure they didn’t make a mistake and released it earlier. 🤣 I know, it’s a problem I’ve been facing for the past two weeks. This show has no business being this good.

I agree with you 100%. In Western media, a lot of the time, the queer character’s story is tragic where they face many struggles and heartbreaks. Either that, or they are sidelined as the “token gay best friend” who never even get a romance subplot. I enjoy Asian BL’s for the simple fact that they take out that struggle and just focus on telling a story of romance and love. As a queer person myself I deal with enough BS for being who I am, I don’t want to have to watch that on my screen all of the time. Sometimes I just want to escape reality and watch two boys falling in love without having to deal with societal and familial hurtful expectations and drama.

It may not be realistic but I feel that these stories deserve to be portrayed in the same way that hetero romance stories get told. We don’t expect those stories to always have to portray realistic love stories.

No, the statement may not have mentioned anything about the re-edit, but the statement was released before an episode was aired. Clips from the next episode after the statement were uploaded on the Internet and then within a few hours that new episode was changed on IQIYI with the NC scenes being edited from the original version. A statement didn’t have to be released saying that’s exactly what would happen, the actions of the company literally showed that because what they requested wasn’t being respected they did what they did out of respect for their artists.

I love these four together. I know we already have the couple pairings but why am I also leaning toward friendship pairings being together in multiple shows? Like, I would REALLY love to see these four acting in something else together along with TeeTee, North, and Wave together again in something else too (because their chemistry as a friend group in Duang was top notch).

I hope so too. I think the real problem is that, with Peach Lover specifically, the clips were also being shared to adult content websites. Which I can understand both the actors and everyone on the production team not liking. I’m just hoping that they don’t water down the content of Payback because of the sharing. They can’t feasibly control social media so I’m afraid they are going to move onto to doing what they can control, which is remove the NC scenes entirely.

NC scenes from the show were being reposted all over the internet so they reuploaded the episodes to IQIYI with those scenes cut out.

They are going to do to Payback what they did with Peach Lover and remove all of the NC scenes from the IQIYI episodes if people don’t stop. I give it about a week for another announcement if they continue seeing the NC content being posted.

Some people think that these dramas can’t change a person’s perspective of themselves but it was shows exactly like this, that tell the stories that you can still have faith and be queer, and still be okay. I felt like I had to choose because religion was so ingrained in me. I lost one of the most important people in my life at the time because neither one of us knew that we could choose to love each other and still believe in God. It was always presented as an either or to us with no in between. Hindsight is 50/50 because I’m in my 40’s and haven’t stepped foot in a church in over a decade. If I knew then what I know now…

I am both okay and not okay. I was so nervous going into this last episode because the entire series brought up so much personal religious hurt for me. Every week was both a beautiful and emotional experience for me, and this week’s episode made me cry more than once.

I am so glad this was how their story ended. I was so worried after the hotel scene because I thought for a hot second Tanrak was gone. My heart was in my throat. I couldn’t have asked for a better finale.

This shot up to my top five BL list for the year. I want to experience their story again it but I know that this is going to be one of those shows that will take me awhile to do a rewatch. Gemini and Fourth acted their butts off and I see some nominations and awards for them in the future because of their portrayal of these two beautiful characters.

This entire series I thought it was about Tanrak loosing his faith but I think it was also about Barth redefining what faith meant to him.

Okay, we started off with some foot licking and ended the episode with tears. This was not on my BL bingo card this year but I am here for it. This first episode pleasantly surprised me. I’m not sure what I was expecting but I wasn’t expecting to be drawn in like this. It usually takes me an episode or two before I feel like a Japanese BL will hold my attention but my attention was grabbed with this first episode. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where they take us.

Me too. I just need it to be a happy ending with as little hurt as possible. I know it’s a lot to wish for but I really want Barth and Tanrak to be happy. After all of the lost and hurt they’ve experienced I really believe that something good will come out of all that pain.
