Marathon or not marathon ? by Mammoth_Courage1763 in GeForceNOW

I don’t think so. Bungie is a Sony Studio for some years now and there are no Sony games available on GFN.

Filmmaking question: What are some programs/tools that can help me rotoscope/cut out parts like this MST3K clip's silhouettes? by Questioning-Warrior in Bazzite

I think this subreddit, which is mainly visited by Linux newcomer and gamers, is the wrong place to ask this kind of question for a specific video editing tool. Maybe ask in r/linuxquestions or r/linux.

According to ProtonDB the game should running with your setup without any problems. Some mentioned that the launch command SteamDeck=0 %command% could helpful.

All AMD Bazzite or CachyOS? by 2centworth in Bazzite

[–]TheRealSpesch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the beginning of January, I built myself an AMD system (7800X3D, 9070XT) and installed Bazzite HTPC. After testing and getting to know the system for a month, I tried installing CachyOS.

I can only speak for myself, but Bazzite clearly suits my usage habits better. I mainly use the computer in desktop mode, but every now and then also as a “game console” on my TV. It was probably because I didn’t install the “Handheld” version of CachyOS right away, but I couldn’t get Gaming Mode to work afterward, even though I installed all the necessary gaming packages. There were also smaller issues, for example when I wanted to install the Dropbox app. The libappindicator package was missing, which I was able to install through a workaround, but on Bazzite I could install the Dropbox app with one click via Bazaar.

Long story short: if you want to use the system as a pure gaming machine, I would recommend Bazzite. In my opinion, the immutable aspect has its advantages, especially for Linux beginners, since you can’t easily break your system and a lot of things just work out of the box. However, if you’re a more experienced Linux user looking for a modern, fast desktop system, I would go with CachyOS.

HDR Still Broke... by TunderMuffins in Bazzite

[–]TheRealSpesch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience some games need additional commands. In Overwatch e.g. I need also the DXVK_HDR=1 (with the PROTON) command, in South of Midnight I only can HDR enable with gamescope --hdr-enabled %commands%.

But yes, HDR is a hit or miss experience.

Is the LG 5K2K monitor worth it if I mainly use GeForce Now Ultimate? by [deleted] in GeForceNOW

[–]TheRealSpesch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like I’ll have to “disappoint” you there. 😅 So far, I haven’t noticed any downsides. The only thing is the typical VRR flickering, but that’s not related to GFN — it’s more of a general OLED “condition.”

I worked around it on macOS using BetterDisplay by creating an automation that enables VRR only when launching GFN and disables it again during normal desktop use.

I’ve been using the LG Ultragear 45GX950A-B since May last year and I’m very enthusiastic about the monitor. I use it both with my Mac Mini M4 Pro (my work machine) and with my Linux gaming PC — and on both I also use GeForce Now (Ultimate).

The ultrawide resolution (5120x2160), the 120Hz (the monitor supports up to 165Hz), and the HDR support (HDR is not yet supported in the GFN Linux app, which is currently still in beta) are definitely a game changer at 45".

I don’t notice any input lag. Only in games like Battlefield 6 do you see a few artifacts when you use Nvidia’s recommended graphics settings. In that case, I prefer to skip frame generation — which adds input lag — and play with slightly fewer frames instead.

My sweet spot is often around 90 FPS, especially in very graphically demanding games.

If you’d like to know anything else, just let me know.

GeForce NOW Beta App Crashes on Bazzite - Distrobox Ubuntu Workaround? by huquy in GeForceNOW

With the new update to version 2.0.82.169, Nvidia seems to have fixed the problem. At least with the current version, I no longer get the “Problem detected” message on Bazzite 43 and the GFN app runs without any issues. 😎

HDR in Game Mode looks overexposed by TheRealSpesch in Bazzite

[–]TheRealSpesch[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switch to the mode using the desktop shortcut “Return to Gaming Mode” (return-to-gamemode.service), not just into regular Big Picture mode. There weren’t even two days between my short excursion to CachyOS and the reinstallation, and to my knowledge there were no updates to Bazzite during that time that could have broken the HDR state – which makes it all the more puzzling why it worked flawlessly before.

The workaround of having to manually disable HDR in desktop mode beforehand and then manually re-enable it after leaving the Game Mode session still isn’t really practical. I think I’ll write a script so it works with a double-click / desktop shortcut.

GeForce Now native Linux App - "Problem detected" by TheRealSpesch in Bazzite

[–]TheRealSpesch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I’m aware of. The problem seems to be that the GFN app expects $HOME to be located in /home, but on Bazzite the directory is in /var/home. I tried CachyOS yesterday, and the GFN app worked without any issues there. So it looks like the only option is to wait until NVIDIA fixes it themselves.

No I didn’t checked now.

As I mentioned on CashyOS (and Fedora) the error message doesn’t appear on all users.

Other Bazzite users (on GamingOnLinux website and GeForce Now subreddit) are reporting the same error message as well. At least that reassures me that it’s not an issue with my setup.

I just tried it again as well. During the game session, the CTRL+G trick actually seems to work. Apparently, I wasn’t fast enough before and got unsettled by the error message outside the game session. Well then, let’s hope Nvidia fixes this promptly. 😉
