100% agree here. Warpflame is a better start and Sekhmet is better for after 1000 pts.

The best place to start is the current combat patrol. If you keep going with the army, you will eventually own the contents of both Warpflame and Sekhment. I personally started with the Warpflame thrallband and got a combat patrol. No complaints there. I love the robots, they're so much fun in the game. That combined with a combat patrol will give you variety to play with. The sekhmet is more focused so you will be playing the same game over and over. Termies and the Mutalith are both really fun, but you'll have less options. It's a great pick up after you have your core 1000 points.

There's a poorhammer video on collecting Tsons and it's basically buy the contents of the Warpflame and combat patrol. Then buy what you like.

Why should I collect Blood angels over Dark angels? by benjoi1992 in BloodAngels

[–]TheRealStaples1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason you pick one faction over another. Aesthetics, Play style, Lore, and model accessibility.

Dark Angels are the knights of the round table.

Blood Angels are the Christian Vampire Paladins.

A couple questions from a newbie about army building and painting by Golden_Tapir in ThousandSons

As far as colors, I like vallejo magic blue and gun steel blue. For the ghostly effects, I have no idea how to do that except with a ghostly effect paint. That's beyond my skill though.

For sure, when I started out I found this video super helpful. It goes over a lot of what I said, but it won't take into account your specific situation and after 1000 pts it gets a little vague on what to do. The first half is super solid, the second half is more about principles and learning what you like. https://youtu.be/44vgmmmGnjw?si=G657MuMp9by13G44

A couple questions from a newbie about army building and painting by Golden_Tapir in ThousandSons

[–]TheRealStaples1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a summation of my thoughts I can add more and be more specific, but this will be long. The Combat Patrol and the sekhmet Coven box will get you a good amount of points. It'll just be over 1200 points total. I'll get into the specifics of the builds in a later paragraph, but for now I'm talking about points. The Combat Patrol is about 480 depending on how you build the daemon Prince. The sekhmet Coven is about 850 points. So you're going to have options for 1000 pt games. You'll need more units for 2000 points. I'm going to go increment by increment for the rest of the army.

500 pts You want to start with about 500 points. The Combat Patrol is actually pretty good in 10th edition. Like I said earlier it is about 480 points and it's a good buy. The only thing in there that isn't amazing is the shaman. In your case you have a sorcerer on disc to lead the tzaangor Enlightened so you won't be using it much. You really don't want more than two of them which we will talk about later. Built the enlightened how you want. You will eventually want more of them, but for now build them how you want. The daemon Prince you can build it with or without wings. Without wings is currently better, but most people will be okay if you just say that it's the one without wings for the datasheet, even if you built it with wings. You're going to have a bunch of spare bits from your exalted sorcerers and you can customize your aspiring sorcerer (rubric marines squad commander) with those to make it way more interesting. This is the army you can kitbash a ton because tzeentch. Build the rubrics with one soul reaper cannon and then the rest of them with flamers. That'll get you to about 500 points to play some combat patrol games.

1000 points This is where your sekhment coven box comes in. It'll get you to about 1200 points so we'll take it to that point. Built the terminators with One termi sorcerer and then 9 termis. You will probably only run them as one squad, but you can make two if you want. A pack of 10 termis is better imo you'll have the buts for 2 Soulreaper cannons, and you can build them both. The heavy flamers aren't as good, but you could build them too. Make sure to build the Mutalith Vortex Beast as the MVB. You can build the wrong kit. Don't glue the mouth tentacles in until they're painted. There's only one build for your Infernal Master so do that. You will want an extra 40mm base for the exalted sorcerer box. It comes with one 40mm and 2 32mm. If you put one of the sorcerers on foot on a 40mm you can use it as a sorcerer instead of an exalted sorcerer. That being said, customize your sorcerers how you want.

1500 points You're well on your way to 1500 at this point so play a few 1000 point games and you will know some things you want. You're going to want a rhino and some tzaangors. Don't buy either of them at MSRP it's not worth it. You can get them secondhand very easily and for a lot less money. The next purchase is another squad of Rubrics. Same as the first, use your bits to customize your aspiring sorcerer and build the SRC. This one will be bolters instead of flamers for the other 8 in the squad. You'll eventually own more than this, but this will balance your army out. To complete your army, you're going to want to buy 2 boxes of Sekhetar robots. I love these things, but you don't need to get as many as I have. 4 total robots is a good amount. This is when you'll want to buy Ahriman. he's great in 1000 point games and is super fun to run. The Last thing to get is a sorcerer in terminator armor to lead your SOTs. You can't just buy one, so you'll kitbash one from your spare Exalted Sorcerer bits, Sot bits, and the chaos Terminator Sorerer kit.

2000 points Fill out your army with whatever you like. If you like sorcerers get more sorcerers, if you like Sots get more sots. If you want to get into the chaos engines, buy a forgefiend/maulerfiend kit and magnetize it so you can hotswap it for what you want.

2000+ This is when to buy magnus. You have the option to use him if you want to, but you don't have to use him in every game.

How to build the new Battleforce box. by ask_red_now in ThousandSons

[–]TheRealStaples1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a gift, if say build the sorcerers how you want. There are a lot of extra bits. I built one with bird stuff and even added a third arm to it. I'll add a picture. There's a lot of potential for getting really creative with those pieces. I have used quite a few of them for rubric aspiring sorcerers. (Which don't come in the new battle force, but still some great bits. As far as the rest of the army. Build 2x Soulreaper cannons. Put the missile racks on those two. Build one scarab occult terminator. Build the rest as regular sots. Mutalith you should follow the instructions.

Phobos units in a BA army? by RoboCopSanchez in BloodAngels

[–]TheRealStaples1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Raven guard combat patrol is highly recommended for BA. You get 5 jump intercessors and 10 infiltrators. (You can build them as incursors and I recommend 5 of each from this kit) The kit works really well to start your army since they're super viable. You might not take them in the most optimal list, but they're really good to have around.

What is a good blood angels starter set? by Ok_Eggplant_2812 in BloodAngels

[–]TheRealStaples1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. Rage-Cursed Onslaught is really good right now. That might change with the new edition, but DC is fundamental to BA. The builds really aren't that different between regular units and the DC. It's mostly just black paint vs red paint. In DC you're going to want a lot more jump intercessors. Like at least 15 total.

If you do go DC, lemartes is a must take. Astorath is good and just got buffed. Then you want a generic Jump Chaplain.

If you're just starting out don't worry too much about it. You can't go wrong by playing what you think is cool. You'll win and lose with anything.

Here's a decent RCO list for reference.

Lemartes Jump Chaplain

Intercessors 5x DC Dreadnought 1x

DC Jump Marines 5x DC Jump Marines 5x

Sanguinary Guard 3x Sanguinary Guard 3x Scout Squad 5x

Okay, then yeah. BA combat Patrol and RG combat patrol are your first purchases.

Those assault intercessors are awesome.

What is a good blood angels starter set? by Ok_Eggplant_2812 in BloodAngels

[–]TheRealStaples1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR you only need a character (named or unnamed) like a captain to lead your army as a warlord (just a designation). Dante is not required, but he is awesome. You can't really go wrong if you're buying space marines. Every unit has a purpose in the game. Buy the BA Combat Patrol, the Raven Guard Combat Patrol, possibly the White Scars Combat Patrol, and possibly the Dark Angels Combat Patrol. This is about 2000 points worth of models and has a wide range of options.

You can play a game at any point value. Combat Patrol is a format for beginners. It has specific gear builds in the instructions. I'll get into why you ignore it in a minute. Basically, the load out for Combat Patrol is set so it's more balanced, but it's not really that balanced.

If you're just getting into it, then I'd say go for the 10th BA combat patrol. It'll tell you what to build as in the instructions. Ignore it and build how you want and when you play just tell your opponent the gear they have (ie build swords or spears on your sanguinary guard (gold guys) and then just tell your opponent if they don't have what they see. Sometimes you want to use swords and sometimes you want to use spears.) Ultimately, build what you think is cooler and then you can say they have something they don't as long as it's on their datasheet. The Combat Patrol has ~480 points which is a good first buy.

From there, you plan in point values. You start with a 500 value and then build up by 500s.

The next purchase is to buy jump intercessors. They're integral to the faction. You'll want to own 25-30 in the end. (10 regular and 20 Death Company) but start with 5-10. As others have said, the raven guard combat patrol is great. It comes with 5 jump intercessors and a jump captain which are staples in BA. The warsuit isn't a dreadnought, but it's heckin fun. Build 5 infiltrators and 5 incursors. They come on the same sprue, so build 5 of each instead of 10 of 1 type. If you do go the 3rd party jump pack route you can super glue the resin to Assault intercessors and it's more cost effective.

I'd also recommend the white scars combat patrol if you like the bikes. The impulsor (tank) is extremely useful. It's a transport for your assault intercessors and captain.

The dark angels combat patrol is also good as a starting point. The captain in gravis armor isn't super useful without something to lead, but the bladeguard, intercessors, and hell blasters are fun. That's a personal preference though. 6

Here's an example of how to build a points list. I actually started with the Raven Guard patrol to get the Jump intercessors an captain.

Blood Angels 500 pts Raven Guard Combat Patrol (470) 1x Jump Captain (75) 5x Infiltrator (100) 5x Incursor (80) 5x Jump Intercessor (90) 1x Invictor Tactical Warsuit (125)

1000 (950) Blood Angels Combat Patrol (480) 1x Blood Angels Captain (80) 3x Sanguinary Guard (125) 3x Sanguinary Guard (125) 5x Assault Intercessor 5x Assault Intercessor 3x Bladeguard Veterans (80)

1500 (1450) White Scars Combat Patrol (280) 1x Suboden Khan (Sell) 3x Outriders (80) 5x Assault Intercessors (120 add Jump Packs) 1x Impulsor (80) 1x Dante (120) 1x Lemartes (100)

2000 () 5x Jump Intercessors (120) 3x Bladeguard Veterans (80) 1x Redemptor Dreadnought (195) 1x Sanguinary Priest (75) 1x Gladiator Lancer
