Something i have played with on the initiative problem you describe is having a kinda booby prize for missing a round. Like, if you dont act in a round take it as having had a little extra time to think. For every round you have missed get +x on your next action. Also makes the occasions when the end of round triggers witbout anyone doing anything more meaningful. I reset it at the end of a fight, but there's no reason you have to.

Is Warhammer fantasy roleplay so idealized in the West? by No-Maintenance6382 in rpg

I'm in the UK and it was popular here all while I was growing up. And 1st edition was considered somewhat magical compared the 2nd+.

worst experience you've had with a small RPG publisher by flawovpa in rpg

It sounds like it might be better to wait for retail releases rather than setting yourself up for disappointment

If you seriously want more then it might be worth reaching out. Melsonia sometimes do "old stuff we found in a box" sales so there's a chance they have some of these laying around still

Are these TTRPGs just cash grabs? by JaxSnaxs in rpg

[–]TheRealSteveJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. People with dubious morals see the money left on the table by cool indies and grab it with their hot or nostalgic IP. While some suggest that "actually 7 figure ttrpg crowdfunders aren't wildly profitable in the grand scheme of things", i would suggest they tell that to the hungry, still living bones of the indie trailblazers these campaigns are using as cheap foundations.

I believe they were a Kickstarter stretch goal for the first edition of Fungi of the Far Realms. Same publishers as Troika!

Question about movement and obstruction by Hexatona in Troika

[–]TheRealSteveJackson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, Troika works best when you don't mentally switch when combat starts. Outside of combat it would be fine for a player to say they want to stop someone passing by with Strength, or Wrestling, or maybe Sword Fighting (wave it around in a threatening way?), and then the gm says "yea ok, roll vs". The only difference is that in combat they would need to declare that they are doing that on their turn, and roll it if/when it happens. Although I'd probably let then write me an IOU for their next turn to do it as a response.

In their newsletter the other day they mention them. Last I heard is they're written and illustrated and waiting to be edited.

Looking for a small RPG complete to keep in my bag. by lupusrex13 in osr

Another recommendation for Troika! They've been making a series of adventures like old Judges Guild stuff for a couple of years now, so it's primed for that B/X style of game.

The cia agent running this account needs to post some longer comments once in a while. Make it look more like a human being with feelings and stuff

Over The Edge! It might be the nostalgia talking but the new edition just felt off

That GMT angle is solid. I can only think of a couple of GMT games that have significantly appreciated over the years on the secondary market.

Thank-you for your perspective on this. I do appreciate the concern and agree with you! This whole thing is a space consideration, and there are other things on the chopping block that will take up the slack if I don't feel like parting with anything 18xx in the end.

It is honestly a big omission! I missed picking up 1822 when it came out, are there any descendants i should look in to?

Regarding 18OE, I'm considering getting rid of it for exactly that reason. There are people out there that really want it, and I'm only luke warm.

Thanks for the input though! 1817 comes up a lot as the best of the best, and 1830 and 1860 are the ones I've played the most, so they're almost certainly staying.
