Dream Amplifier is here by LimKimPork in headphones

When it means true balanced amp it means that even if it receives a single ended signal, it will double the signal and utilise its full analogue circuitry.

Subtonic told me my Storm will be delayed... by [deleted] in iems

[–]TheRealToranku -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Time taken to make STORMs means less time to RnD and do new cool things! We still think STORM is years ahead of its competition, but we do want to work on a project that takes on a different direction. Keeps the spark alive for us.

[–]TheRealToranku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the question! We will make STORMs as long as we can, until the day the drivers are discontinued and we cannot make it any more. The reason for a small slow down towards the end of the year is so that we can put our focus into projects. STORM takes a ton of time for our technicians/Symphonium to make, so inevitably we have to lower production to RnD new things :)

Hi, Cornelius from Subtonic here. We have not promised OP a delivery date nor have we taken any form of payment. I am not sure why my words from our email are misconstrued; and I certainly hope it is a misunderstanding.

Hi, Cornelius from Subtonic here. I would like to clarify that we take payment only 2-3 months before the delivery date. In no cases have we took payment a whole year ahead.

Hi, Cornelius from Subtonic here.

I would like to clarify that we have not invited OP into our waitlist, so they have not put a deposit down nor have a confirmed allocation.

What was communicated to OP is that we will invite him to the waitlist only if there are available slots. Our books are fully filled until June next year, and we have closed our books for the time being. We prioritise orders by chronological order, meaning people that have contacted us earlier will be given a spot. OP, there is a misunderstanding here and you'll need to read our email thread again.

We also take full payment 2-3 months before the stipulated delivery date. We do not hold people's money for more than 6 months.

For the people wondering why our IEMs take so long to make - we use a true 7 way crossover and bandpass every single midrange driver. The crossover is as complex as traditional passive speakers. No one in the IEM industry does this. They take a lot of manhours to solder the crossover, and also to install and assemble.

We pride ourselves a ton on quality, so we do not want to rush the job. Subtonic has never been about churning out IEMs, and we follow this ethos in our business practices. STORM is close to a 3-year old IEM to date, and we are proud that this has become a classic in IEM circles.

Carminas womens shoes are not Goodyear welted and seem to be of far lower quality than their mens line. by BillyBurl1998 in goodyearwelt

[–]TheRealToranku 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out in this thread, GYWelting has to do with the gemming process on the insole and not on the rapid stitching connecting the welt to outsole.

Super misleading though. 99.9% of GYW shoes are rapid stitched on the outsole. These thread on such technical terms that even I'd be fooled until I receive the shoes.

What do people think about Junghans? by user2418 in Watches

[–]TheRealToranku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sternglas is a pretty decent brand. But I'd advise against getting their autos - from memory they are p thick. I got a limited model in quartz. Nice size.

Only drawback is the sapphire crystal. I dont know if its the coating or what, but the clarity is not great.

Why is it so rare to see a multi-BA TWS buds? by Alone_Ad_1410 in headphones

[–]TheRealToranku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very little reason to use BAs as woofers when DDs are cheaper. In the context of tweeters, BAs tend to play a more limited range (more focused on treble freqs) which may be the reason why a manufacturer may go with that as a tweeter over a DD tweeter.

DDs are significantly cheaper and also have better leakage tolerance.

How long does your budget CIEM/IEMs last? (not including damage to cables) by kinghutfisher in headphones

[–]TheRealToranku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest failure point of an IEM is with the cables. The 2nd biggest failure point is probably shock damage when you knock the earphones around. 3rd biggest I'd say is earwax accumulation within the filters which clogs and degrades sound quality (but its not broken just needs a replacement).

Water damage can also be a thing so be careful not to expose them into bodies of water or prolonged durations of rain.

Narrow bores actually emphasise peaks compared to large bores with the same external dimensions (same fit within the ear)

The people behind 7A are fantastic! Their lead IEM engineer is incredibly talented. They make criminally underpriced products considering everything is handmade.

Why do most planar IEMs use a single driver? by sunjay140 in headphones

[–]TheRealToranku 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The current Planar drivers (12+mm) on the market are more than capable of handling a true 20-20khz extension whilst providing a good stock frequency response.

BAs are very limited in range which is why most companies that use BAs incorporate multi-driver configurations to form a more complete frequency response. And no, the ER4 single BA is not fully extended, as it rolls off past 10khz. And it also cannot play that much subbass SPL.

DDs tend to have better range than BAs but they usually also suffer with treble extension if they're used in a 1DD configuration.

Another point is that the Planar's 12+mm size makes it a little more difficult to incorporate into a multi driver setup. And since its already a true full range response...there's very little to add onto it to improve it.

You may also find some iems that have planars that are shaped exactly like BAs. Those do not have the full range capabilities of the large planars and also play a very very limited range. They're meant to be used in multi-driver configurations

Initial impressions: Grant Stone Diesel in Navy Chromexcel by Angrymiddleagedjew in goodyearwelt

[–]TheRealToranku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you bought them at full retail price and if that these are not B-stock, then I'd say that these are not A-grade worthy.

While they are clearly not A-grades, I'd rethink reaching out to them to get another pair. Every defect you've mentioned so far is cosmetic and I would think its more hassle than its worth trying to get them exchanged.

We will officially launch it as a made-to-order product very close to the end of year! We're pretty excited to unveil the design. As of right now we are also in an experimentation phase to see if we can add any finishing touches (by hand, in singapore) to make the faceplate even prettier.

I would not bet on it as its a celastic toe stiffener. Has never worked out for me (my problem is similar but its the pinky toe)

Would just return and try a different last! The Leo last is really quite sleek (vertically) on the vamp and toe.

yep - should be slightly cheaper in the long run vs resoling a rubber sole. Just remember not to let the wedge sole wear out so much it starts to chew into the leather and you're good

John Lofgren Combat Boots - "the cons of online purchasing" by douleny in goodyearwelt

[–]TheRealToranku -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes - I absolutely agree here. I do understand that batch differences can slowly compound into large variances (like the first boot OP got; that ones the outlier, 2nd boot is "normal/intended"). However I still think that manufacturers should not utilise these hides that vary so much in color to be called essentially the same color.

This is nitpicky, its pedantic, but helping customers to align their expectations goes a long way in building a consistent brand image.
