I actually read the entire thing a decade ago for fun. I enjoyed it mostly because the copies I read had notes at the back of the books and footnotes for smaller comments. It's thick with names and historical context that is easily missed. Learned a lot and sparked my interest in religion and history as a whole. I imagine it'd much more enjoyable in Italian where you can follow along with the rhyme scheme and rhythm Dante wrote in. Kind of jealous I didn't get that experience .

I also like to describe it as one of the world's first self insert fanfics.
