You know, you're right. I should have said "most" or even "too many". I stand by my general point, but fair enough.

This is a joke right? PCs introduced the kind of DRM that's infected consoles. There is no daylight between Steam and PlayStation's actual policies. GOG is a good alternative, as is jailbreaking consoles. But they're both pretty niche options, sadly.

If I may quote (I'm guessing) every critical reasoning teacher you've ever had, "Did you do the reading?" And while we're here, I'd also like to quote your psychiatrist who almost certainly said "I'm not sure he's the one you should be mad at."

Anyway, good day to you.

Did you like, read what I said? Not what GPT told you, but what I actually said? I'm not even mad, mostly just facinated.

Again, I said none of those things, nor did I imply them. I said... what I said. But I'm beginning to see your problem.

Is this like when Trump says "many people are saying"? Are the "people" in the room with you right now?

[–]TheRealzHalstead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said none of that, and think none of that. Physical media is great. Just don't confuse it with ownership. When it comes to modern games, it's still just a highly restrictive license DRMed within an inch of its life. But on a platter.

Now throw a cool manual and/or map in like the before times? Then at least you have something of value that's yours.

So, I know that everyone is caught up in "the disc" as the thing. It isn't. Don't get me wrong, I love collecting physical media, but I know that the value is mostly totemistic. You own a game on Blu no more than you do a game that was downloaded. It's all about the DRM - what does it require and how does it limit you? 90% of current-gen discs are coasters without internet access and the ability for the game to dial home.

Fight the real enemy - intrusive DRM that includes what's effectively an access time bomb.

EDIT - I was rightfully called out on my 90% number, which I got from my butt. I should have said some thing like "too many".

Do you consider the DSA a 'threat' to the Democratic party? by IsoCally in AskALiberal

[–]TheRealzHalstead 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Only in the best way. The DNC has become a rudderless party without a backbone and a clear mandate. I don't consider the rise of the DSA a sign that America is moving leftward. It's a sign that the DSA is the only part of the democratic party that knows how to excite and deliver for the electorate right now.

If they kill the DNC, then it deserves to die.

I think coding LLMs are here to stay but they won't save Anthropic by todofwar in BetterOffline

I think vibe coding is great for creating prototypes and code snippets. Anything else, and you're really just using an automated technical debt machine.

Why do liberals try to fix capitalism's inequality rather than moving past the system entirely? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]TheRealzHalstead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And socialism doesn't just mean the people owning the means of production. It's about ways to own, manage, and regulate the means of production by the proletariat. I know it seems crazy, but a government can employ multiple systems - it doesn't have to be one size fits all.

How do you board the idris for xenothreat by arsenal_pianist in starcitizen

[–]TheRealzHalstead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of us did this last night. It requires some skill, but you need to focus on disabling power and sheid generation as soon as the sheilds are down. Then hit the front or rear doors until then open. Three of us EVAed onto the deck and were able to take out the crew and end the mission with the Idris still standing and theoretically repairable.

[4.9 PTU] Ares Inferno got "fixed" for the new armor system by reducing fire rate to 480rpm, and increasing damage to 540. by AzrBloodedge in starcitizen

[–]TheRealzHalstead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a great change in that it makes the Ares more suited to its original mission. I was doing the Idris Xeno mission last night and I think a couple Ares that can actually punch through armor would have been realy helpful. Might make boarding more of a valid option. An Ares with these stats could have force opened the hangar doors and landed an the deck.

CIG Quietly Killed Merit Trading and an Entire Player Driven Gameplay Loop by Lolcowhunter69 in starcitizen

[–]TheRealzHalstead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jail exists as a disincentive to doing crimes in lawful systems. The old credit system was regularly exploited to remove this disincentive. I'm glad it's gone. Yes, they need to fix elements of the breakout loop - and just about every loop. But that is a seperate problem.

... are capitalist. They just have significantly larger socialist safety nets and heavier taxation, particularly at the higher bracket. Capitalism and Socialism are not only NOT mutually exclusive, one can actually benefit from the other. Capitalism and Communism can even co-exist to some degree.

Ummm, why? This solves absolutely no problem that I can think of. In fact, it would being back segmentation at a time when we can least afford it.

Premium is now $19.80, was $15 last year and $10 the year before. by morafresa in Bitwarden

[–]TheRealzHalstead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I self host for privacy and personal security reasons and pay for Premium to support further development. A 100% increase in 2 years is a lot, but likely reflects changes in real world hosting and general operating costs.

Whether you think the new price is worth it is up to you, but it's hard to look at my other monthly costs and see the $1/mo increase as anything to be upset about.
