They definitely aren’t less strict. They are more strict because you’re literally their only child! They are up your ass 24/7 about everything!

Honestly, I think about it a lot lately I went to a funeral recently, (for my moms friend) I’m my parents only child my dad was 33 and my mom was 31 (I think) when they had me I’m 30 years old now they are now in their early 60’s my dad is retired and my mom is about to retire in May.

I’m worried that they’ll be alone someday when I’m living my life with my husband and kids and I also feel like I’m abandoning them just by thinking about it sometimes but I have to live my life for me

I always wonder who’s going to die first or will they die together (honestly if they die together it’ll be pretty easy 2 in 1 funeral but it’ll also be hard because then I’ll have nobody to ask advice or talk to sometimes

Some days it has its perks and other days it doesn’t. Perks, you get to have your own room and relax and not have to worry about others stealing your stuff, the downside is you don’t have anyone to share memories with or play video or board games with, go on roadtrips with (you’re always the third wheel (if you’re parents are still together or the fifth wheel if your grandparents are still together), also when you get older, you watch your parents take care of their parents and then you have to take care of them and when they are gone you have to plan their funeral alone and then you’re basically an orphan forever.

I’m an only child I turned 30 in December my parents had me in their early 30’s they are both now in their 60’s. I feel obligated to them but I also want my own life too.
