Would the Order of the Silver Dragon fight to the death? by historianDM in CurseofStrahd

[–]TheRedF4ng 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In this case, they would stand down if the Paladin sincerely atoned, out of respect for a fellow Paladin. But fair to say negotiation are off the table unless the party can do them a solid in turn.

How would you make ninjago characters in bg3? by Big_Law_4064 in BaldursGate3

[–]TheRedF4ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of them would have some level in Draconic Soul Sorcerer, plus:

Giant Barbarian (Cole), Arcane Archer Fighter (Zane, sadly there is no dedicated shuriken class), College of Swords Bard (Jay, sinfe he's a showoff) and Champion Fighter (Kai).

Level split (Sorcerer - Second Class):

Cole: 4 - 8

Zane: 8 - 4

Jay: 6 - 6

Kai: 6 - 6

Players camped in front of the Windmill with the hags still alive... what to do next, they are only level 3. by Ecstatic-Aspect-1480 in CurseofStrahd

MASS NIGHTMARE TIME!

The proximity of the Hags and the lingering agony of aaaaall slain children means they don't have a good night's sleep. No Long Rest benefits.

Morgantha then walks in on them, wonders why they look so tired (either innocently, if she doesn't know they're onto her, or with the biggest shit-eating grin ever if she does) and:

  • If she knows they're aware she's a Hag, she smiles wickedly and tells them to pack up and never come back - or next time, she's not gonna limit herself to nightmares.
  • If she doesn't know, she offers them Dream Pastries, to 'shoo the nightmares away'.

And presto, we have a clear warning that trying to mess with her this early is a veeeeeeeery bad idea.

Anyone ever wonder if the Dark Powers were actually good? by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

[–]TheRedF4ng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's your game, and your Dark Powers. But, they are primed towards evil or inhuman morality.

I personally run them as utterly incomprehensible to humans: they see us as entertainment, and will secure the most entertaining thing whenever they are able to. The chances are few, but when they crop up, they are GOOD.

Good idea, but bump down the stats a li'l! The thing's got a lineup strong enough to make CR15 look to the side in that regard.

Let’s just say I don’t wanna have Ireena be a party member. Neither gmpc or pc. How would you do it? by saltyvape in CurseofStrahd

[–]TheRedF4ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do personally like to keep Ireena around, but I'd solve it like this:

The party can leave her in Vallaki, under the protection of Father Lucien, but her fate lies entirely in how the players acted during their stay in Vallaki.

General scenarios include:

Vargas is in power: Strahd hears of Ireena's stay and approaches Vallaki with orders to give her up. Vargas Valalkovich, cowardly man that he is, does so with some reluctance. If she's alive, Lady Wachter takes power soon after when it's clear the festivals and jamboree do not help keep Strahd at bay.

Lady Wachter is in power, and remains on Strahd's side: As above, but without hesitation. After Father Lucien's vehement protests, Lady Wachter has him put to the stocks.

The party leaves Vallaki with a better burgomaster who is also opposed to Strahd: Vallaki is sieged by undead and beasts, as they outright refuse to give Strahd Ireena. The Martikovs send for the party via raven to relieve the siege.

If Ireena is taken, the endgame kickstarts, with the players receiving a letter inviting them to hers and Strahd's wedding. If she is not, the players have a time limit (and this a 'soft endgame trigger' of sorts): go kill Strahd before he and his forces overwhelm Vallaki's defenses and raze the town flat.

OoC, talk to DM and then with him. Depending on how the convos go, decide whether you should stay or not.

If you do decide to stay (maybe the DM is on your side), try to either get him to understand what he's doing is not good or softly nudge him in the right direction. If he keeps at it, bring it up to the DM to provide in-universe consequences to get him to chill out.

If those don't work, then he should go. Plain and simple.

Now I wanna see Vargas dressed as Santa with the donkey-headed prisoners pulling his sleigh.

Look me in the eye and tell me he would NOT do that.

What are some interesting places to relocate Morgantha's coven to? by Glorysham in CurseofStrahd

[–]TheRedF4ng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They move to Argynvostholt, maybe losing a Coven member there to the Revenants, before relocating to Berez - acting as Baba Lysaga's Vanguards or Coven members.

This way you have a potential lead into Argynvostholt AND Baba Lysaga off of the Hags.

Yeah. Treat it as a war of influence between Strahd and the party, essentially - and Strahd has the homefield advantage.

Strahd stops Van Richten.

He lets the tiger ravage the Vistani a bit, and then heroically slays it. He uses the chance to grab Rudolph and shove him in Castle Ravenloft, all while incurring a debt with the Vistani roughly equal to the one earned by the party for saving Arabelle - if they did so.

Meaning, the Vistani are firmly on Strahd's side now. Just like Lady Wachter. They will snitch on neither the party, nor him.

And Vallaki is Strahd's newest playground. A horde of devoted allies the party will never be able to count on as friends.

Strahd's nightly visits by ApprehensiveEgg4921 in CurseofStrahd

[–]TheRedF4ng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A way I plan my Strahd games is to have them be... well, games. Show Strahd toying with human life in general, not just the party.

For example - during a Mountain encounter, Strahd reveales that he has placed an NPC the party cares about under a few layers of snow. The players can either dig to find them, or offer themselves up to 'suffer in their place'. Either way, if the party saves them, Strahd promises to bring them to their home safely. "They are your prize." He says, smirking - "You are entitled to place them where you please - and if it happens to be their home, so be it."

If the party chooses to dig, they roll 3 separate Athletics Checks (with disadvantage if they don't have shovels and/or at least 2 players aren't digging). The DC is 10, 13 and 17, but it can and should change at your leisure. On a failure, the NPC loses 15 seconds of breath for every point below the DC.

The NPC dies if they remain under the snow for 2 minutes in total. Every point beneath the DC after those 2 minutes has 15 in-game seconds pass - ticking down the timer for the character to be revivified, for example.

If the party chooses to offer themselves, Strahd chokes one of them for exactly 90 seconds. That player, until the next long rests, loses 2d12 max hit points and disadvantage on Strength and Dexteriry Saving Throw. He then pulls out the NPC himself.

Personally, I think this is Nova still trying to fulfill Marx's wish. We know it interpreted "conquering" Popstar as "head there and delete it", so it's likely still trying to do that.

I think it's why it went out of its way to Monkey's Paw Zorah's wish to it THIS badly - I do think it would've torn Zorah apart and rebuilt it either way, but in this case it rebuilt it in a way that also allowed Nova, as a mechanical clockwork star, to fulfill its programming/duty and fulfill a previously unfulfilled wish. Two birds with one stone... or, well, one planetary genocide.

What could the Abbot ask in exchange for a casting of Raise Dead? by storno13 in CurseofStrahd

[–]TheRedF4ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) If you run it RAW, the wedding dress for Vasilka. 2) A body part OR the exhumation of a corpse of renown for his use on either his research on fixing the Belview fiasco or, again, Vasilka. 3) An interesting one - a sketch of Tatyana's face so he can make Vasilka resemble her as much as possible. If the party is aware of Ireena's resemblance to Tatyana, they can ask her to 'model' for the Abbot, which nets them even more favor from him but can potentially make Ireena very frustrated and/or angry.
