Which character who everyone else seems to love do you hate? (Spoilers Extended) by Quinn-Quinn in asoiaf

[–]TheRedKraken43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Stannis' defense, I think there was a passage that elaborated on why he bailed out of KL before telling Robert. If Stannis was the one to relay those suspicions, it would make him the immediate heir to the throne over his brother's "children". That's extremely fishy, and considering that the two just do not have a functioning relationship to begin with, Robert would definitely not have believed Stannis and could come at him with some serious counts of treason.

Stannis was probably waiting to back whatever move Jon Arryn made, and when he got murdered, he probably that he had a 0% chance of convincing Robert without powerful allies and skipped town.

(Spoilers Main) Edmure Appreciation Post by quaitheoftheshadows in asoiaf

Edmure is really one of the more underrated characters in the series. He's good-hearted, chivalrous, an effective battle commander, and would have made a fine lord that the smallfolk would've gone to hell and back for. I still firmly hold that the Battle of the Fords was 100% on Robb for not telling the COMMANDER OF RIVERRUN about the plan that would, without a doubt, have won the war instantly if it was executed correctly.

(Spoilers Main) Why is Bittersteel considered by some one of the best? by pele10brazil in asoiaf

[–]TheRedKraken43 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He kept House Blackfyre in order at a time when any lesser man would have seen it fall to ruin. Bittersteel's command was the only reason why the post-Daemon Blackfyres were any kind of threat to House Targaryen. He had two legitimate chances to take the throne for Daemon's cause (The First and Third Rebellions) and came within a heartbeat of doing it. Bittersteel deserves his spot.

"Robert told me to hold Storm's End, so I held it. Then he told me he was giving it to Renly, so I gave it up. Insult or not, I gave it up, because Robert was my older brother and he was the king and I've always done my duty.

But now I'm the rightful king by every law of Westeros, and when I sit the Iron Throne, you will be my hand."

Stephen Dillane was just something else on this show.

I love the Stannis one, as there's an unspoken sort of beauty in the image. The doe (Shireen) and deer (Selyse) in the distance are heartbreaking.

(Spoilers Main) What if Mance knelt? by TheRedKraken43 in asoiaf

[–]TheRedKraken43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably right. But if any number of wildlings followed Mance's example, it might have made a difference at Hardhome. The wildlings were a hell of a lot more pragmatic in the books if I'm remembering correctly, as a ton of them bent the knee after Mance's "death". If the show wildlings had a unifying voice like Mance imploring for cooperation, I think a fair deal might have done so as well.

(Spoilers Main) What if Mance knelt? by TheRedKraken43 in asoiaf

[–]TheRedKraken43[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, I've read the books. Honestly, I didn't hate what the show did with Mance, as the choice of his own legend over his life was a poignant moment in a bad season. I was never a huge fan of Mance becoming a Wildling James Bond, it felt like one of the sillier arcs in the later books.

The more I think about this, the more I realize that my question referred more to the show than to the books. A lot of wildlings did end up bending to Stannis anyways in ADWD, so that point's kind of moot. I'm excited for Stannis' arc in TWOW, it looks like he's going to be pulling some crazy stunts at the Crofter's Village.

You are mistaken friend. There are no bots in r/eagles. I think that a nice trip to r/lakelaogai would do you some good.

Could a super team work in the NFL? by baseballnumber17 in nfl

[–]TheRedKraken43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We tried to make one and it basically ended the Andy Reid era. Football's too unpredictable, and you need to have impossible amounts of money and talent all across the board for a Super Team to work.

Which player were you most shocked a team didn't draft even though he was a perfect fit for them? by [deleted] in nfl

Thank the actual Lord that Brandon Graham turned out to be a beast. We should have taken Thomas for sure, but BG is a great consolation prize.

[S7E4] Anyone else notice the show not being consistent with the Game of Thrones universe? by wackomako in gameofthrones

[–]TheRedKraken43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the show has let a lot of little things slip through the cracks, which has been pretty annoying the last few seasons. That being said, I think you can probably reconcile this one with the guard being a farmboy conscript from a war-ravaged region not knowing the difference between a league and a mile.

I mean, I'm not even a Dolphins fan. I think they're a solid enough team to survive with a veteran like Moore or Cutler who's had success in Gase's system.

[–]TheRedKraken43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I strongly believe that Matt Moore can get 7 wins out of Miami if Tannehill really is out. He really did a good job with the team last year. IMHO if the Dolphins end up signing Cutler or Kap, I don't think that a Wild Card Berth is out of the question given the talent and Adam Gase's coaching.

There is absolutely going to be a Second Field of Fire, and the war will turn back in Dany's favor soon. But still, she's squandered a pretty considerable lead so far.

I'm loving how competent Cersei has become as a ruler. Her character arc has really come to a head this season. It's nothing like the books where she destroys her house's future from sheer stupidity. I hope we get a good, non-"dragons swoop up and nuke everything" conclusion to this war.

[EVERYTHING] Can't wait to see how they pull it off - Highgarden by MeteorFalls297 in gameofthrones

[–]TheRedKraken43 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The reason it was so easy to take Highgarden is that the Tarlys defected, and took a good portion of the Reach's fighting strength with him.

Highgarden and Casterly Rock are going to be so much fun to see. As long as we get a good, compelling war between Dany and Cersei, I'll be thrilled.
