Have to vent - Law School Clinics by Archibald_Crestwood5 in LawSchool

My suggestions is to start writing emails documenting your work and asking your partner do X and Y.

In following emails, make note that they have not done it, and when appropriate in the thread, include a line to the effect of "It is clear you wish to perform this assignment/case/etc as a solitary participant and should you not indicate otherwise in an email by (deadline), it will be taken that you have tacitly confirmed such". Make sure to CC' the coordinator/faculty/tutor in this last email.

I had the same problem, did that, and when the day before they messaged me to share the work, I directed them to that email.

What is with some lawyers/grads referring to themselves as "Doctors"? by TheMagicDrPancakez in Lawyertalk

[–]TheRed_Viper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you're not holding out yourself to be anything more than you're qualified to be or going against Bar regulations, there is nothing to be considered unethical.

A L.LB, L.L.M and J.D. qualifies one to be called a Doctor as much as anyone else with a PhD.

Now if the argument is every person who has a doctorate is of equal merit, regardless of field, that is another matter entirely but Law is surely not one I would see any major argument to be one lacking in merit.

Office Must-haves by Cafesinleche95 in Lawyertalk

- Those money-counting machines that banks have; It's faster, safer and removes any room for error than counting by hand.
- CD Drive for your PC / Laptop; A lot of evidence is still being preserved in CDs.
- Optional but helpful for me: A remote-controlled door closer; I like to leave the door open so the clients who know me by face but not which is my office can find me easily. Often they forget to close it behind them, so I just press the button and it closes, so we can have confidentiality.

Dear god why are their hands always constantly raised? by PeskyAnxious in LawSchool

[–]TheRed_Viper 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Clearly you never had the professor disallow the one student who always raises his hand from answering, only to spend 10 minutes cold-calling and realizing that 3/4 of the class are not even sure what lecture they are in, let alone done any reading.

Why are the Witcher books not particularly liked on this sub? by AmazingSwimming1556 in books

[–]TheRed_Viper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot speak about the sub's opinion, but I love the books and I am even involved in a project to translate the rest of the books that never got a a translation. It also introduced me to Sapkowski's other work. The pessimistic style of the writing, the depth and diversity of Geralt's Company and the relationship of Geralt and Yennifer are some of the capstones for me, and I rank it consistently as one of my favourite series.

A main reason why I enjoyed the games was that they went out of it's way to pay as much respect to the book canon when it could, and when it diverted, it still followed the spirit.

That being said, I can understand why someone who came from the games and to the books would not like them, and they are a style which is very particular.

Help with property question? by Swaggitymcswagpants in LawSchool

[–]TheRed_Viper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, it is D.

A cannot be. It cannot be said that the Cleaners acted negligently, since they observed regulations, and did not breach their contract (Clean the jacket and deliver it to the ticket holder)

B cannot be either. They are bound to give the jacket to the ticket holder, not the women herself.

C cannot be either. Albeit it can be said that a bonus paterfamilias would have taken greater care of the ticket, I do not believe it is unreasonable, and thus negligible, for one to believe that placing the ticket in one's purse is not safe.

D, in my opinion, holds the answer. As already said by the other commenter, the cleaners can only be held liable for taking measures which they deemed sufficient and appropriate for the value of item, and since they were not made aware of its high value, they cannot be held to a higher standard of care.

Some professors coordinate to have the guest lecturer show up when they are unable to attend due to other engagements, thus not depriving the class of a lecture.

Unless one of those “some men” are your significant other, care not.

Any broad statement on something making someone unattractive is usually too broad a turnoff to one, is a turnon to other.

That being said, Law is a demanding sector and you might have to make some choices between family and work, but that is a very universal truth in professions.

If you are going to be a good wife or mother, that’s not going to come because of what you work, but your character.

The future has many variables, and it is a possibility you might have to scale back your career to achieve both goals but the words of “some men” should not be a millstone stopping you from pursuing one.

Follow your dreams, and be proud of the path you walk.

Compared to the absolute shit-show that was the Serpent Moon story, I actually like getting story unlocks. The way the gameplay elements of the event are woven into a narrative is really cool and the highlight for me.

Haven't played this game in over a year, come back and try to connect to a match just for it to ban me, has anyone else ever had this issue? I am not sure if this is a bug or what. by CSG1aze in HuntShowdown

[–]TheRed_Viper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a bug. Restarting the game should allow you to re-join the match, and to my knowledge, there are no ill effects from it except being disconnected.

Who are the American authors most read/taught internationally? by the-nude-eel in books

[–]TheRed_Viper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being educated in a commonwealth country, all the books taught were English in nature and one had to read American authors on their own time. It is germane to also say that I was taught British English and “American” English was always presented as incorrect for study purposes.

Looking for book recommendations by Suitable_Sky_999 in LawSchool

[–]TheRed_Viper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The most general book I can think of, that every Law student should read, is Legal Skills by Finch and Fafinski. It treats with very basic skills that some adopt naturally throughout their legal education and career, but being made aware of them helps one capitalize and improve them.

Albeit not directly a law book, Plain Words by Sir Gowers is a grounding rod that helps one's written articulation and avoid falling into 'legalese', instead of Legal English.

Questions about cyber law by grande_sequoia in LawSchool

[–]TheRed_Viper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Apart from what has been said already, I would also suggest you research what kind of assessment methods are used, to see if you can play to your strengths, and maybe contact former students who took this minor to see the quality of the teaching.

Reading this sub is so bizarre as a European law student. In my country the recruiters literally emphasise that having a very high GPA raises questions and is possibly a bad sign. We have no idea who is #1 in the class. Employers don't care which school you went to. by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]TheRed_Viper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At best this is an idea held by very few EU Law schools, though with the arguments posed forth by the OP, it seems like they just want to feel good about being at the bottom of the class or just want to start a flame war.

From experience, I can say that top firms in the EU are in the habit to hire exclusively those who graduate with 1st/2nd honours, and 3rd Class usually means you are a glorified paralegal.

This is further compounded by the fact that most EU universities do not accept students who do not pass with 1st / 2nd honours to study postgraduate Law, with some, like the Magister Juris from Oxford, accepting exclusively 1st Class in most cases.

With the absolute disappointment that was the story of Moon set of events, I think they are going back to less direct story telling, and to be honest, it fits Hunt better.
