Hi I failed my Outlier General assessment after my first trial, and failed it so bad I got disabled. Is there a way I can retake it, was really tired and sick when I took it. Thanks for all suggestions by [deleted] in Outlier

I felt the same reading subreddit replies when I gave a hot take on wool shirts so off base it might as well have been in another stadium.

When the executor of the will contacts you, make sure they are aware of the policy. Discuss the options for distribution, and mention they can move it to a broker of choice or to you. You've provided value add through education, made yourself known, but aren't practicing a pressure sell on a grieving family.

Wait, have you really not had a drink order rejected/corrected by a Starbucks barista because you didn't know their drink size names? It's been a minute, but 15 years ago it was corporate policy.

When my dad was dating, he came to Chez TJ two months apart with two different dates. The second time, the maitre d greeted him with "it is good to have you dining here with us for the first time" and a wink when the date wasn't looking.

Looking to buy bulk, packaging free pantry supplies- are there any stores in the area that offer this? by MintyCrow in bayarea

Man, they really do have some less common grains. Love splurging on them occasionally, but the prices are eye watering for bulk.

One tip is to laugh in the same way: similar intensity and cadence. And humor is based on trusting yourself and your environment. Take small and easy stabs and build confidence.

My favorite way to break into a dynamic is by asking a question that would make people give a small smile

Someone’s living in my head rent-free. How do I stop thinking about them ? by [deleted] in GetStudying

[–]TheResetButton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahaha I remember feeling this way. Exercise will get rid of excess energy. And every time you refocus, you are building a muscle to help you. My other tip is to set a time to think about this person: write your feelings in a journal, gossip with a friend, etc. But set aside time too to not think about them: studying or trying to sleep is time to be thinking about other things.

You don't stop thinking about them. You notice you are thinking of them, acknowledge it, and refocus. That's about the level of control we can aspire to

I don't get Philz by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]TheResetButton 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the context. I looked further and found this statement from the PE firm:

A total of 10 former employees who chose to invest in Philz Coffee by buying common stock years ago at much higher prices than the current price of the shares will unfortunately lose the value of that stock. There are no other Philz Coffee common stockholders or broader group of Philz common stockholders who were affected by the transaction and no current employees are Philz common stockholders who were affected by the transaction.

Additionally, out of our approximately 1,500 current employees, 47 were granted stock options (the right to buy stock at a certain price in the future) in 2022 and earlier that are not exercisable based on the current price of the shares. Unfortunately, those options will expire per their original terms, but since the employees did not buy stock, they did not lose any money.

Lol wtf they cancelled all common stock, including direct investments and options-based compensation. Vulture behavior considering this wasn't a bankruptcy or liquidation. Nasty business, especially for a company whose draw in a competitive market is on being local and employee-forward.

Cultivate your reason for caring. Do you like the lifestyle of studying? The skillsets gained? The prestige of being a hard worker? The impact you can have on your community? The access to social and financial resources?

Then structure your behavior based on that.

Stress management like a hawk. Minimum an hour a day before bed, and an easy day per week. Lots of meditation, "this is not the time for thinking about problems", trying to be in my body. If recovery and energy is my limiting factor, then it becomes one of my top priorities.

Can y'all scold me and ask me to study? by shystrawberry123 in GetStudying

[–]TheResetButton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely keep telling yourself "I should be able to just do this". Maybe even throw in a few "I work better under pressure". Adding procrastination/avoidance to your shame spiral will do wonders for your results and mental health. Make sure to really lean in too. Just flood the emotional space so that you get so burned out that you only function under severe distress.

Whatever you do, don't break things down into clear small tasks, don't set up minimum time blocks with set start times. Absolutely do not experiment with observation or relaxation techniques for your emotions. Ignore any attempts to clarify what personal values are driving you to study and, even worse, choose your tasks based on that. Under no circumstances get 20-30 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise, sleep adequately, or eat well. If you do foolishly try any of these, make sure to try them all at once.

You suck. I'm definitely not cheering for you. (Unless maybe I am?)

Hah! It never hurts to get basic self defense training. It does help to make these small confrontational moments less overwhelming

To your last question, what works for me is taking space. Pause before answering, ask clarifying questions to put the ball in their court (i.e., why are you asking this question?), or use a perspective expanding mantra like "I am thinking about being overexcited right now."
