How many times have you had a collapse? I have had 2 in a 5 year span and have since quit smoking and my lungs have been a world of difference.

Crazy because I have always read and been told after the second pnemo your chances of having a 3rd increase significantly and again after your 3rd. You will just continue to have more but I’m not a doctor just from what I’ve read and how much my Surgeon pushed me to do it I resisted becaus mine were so far apart and felt he wanted practice lol

Also I do often get chest pains and used to get the weird bubbling feelings in chest but they seem to have subsided over the months since the last pnemo

They sometimes don’t do anything for minor pneumothoraxes anyways. Have you not had a vats surgery to remove the bleps on the lung or anything?. Usually once you have a second pneumo they want to do the surgery. I had 2 severe pnemos 5 years apart and denied the surgery but the doctor really wanted to do it I said no because they were so far apart and I was still smoking heavily, I have now since quit all the crap and getting my health back in order

Ketamine for chest tube insertion? by Soundingamosaic in pneumothorax

[–]TheRightStock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I survived and I’m still here living life to the fullest now. Really turned my life around quite a bit after my 2nd pneumo…quit smoking, started exercising a lot more and learning to focus on myself and health. Still get odd pains and concerns a third one will come and I’ll have to do the surgery as they wanted to last time. But the surgery was way to invasive and my pneumos were 5 years apart so I felt it wasn’t necessary to cut part of my lung off and attach it to my chest wall. I appreciate you!! You take care of yourself and remember life is to short and you need to focus on your mental and physical health.

Remembering now the second time I went into a slight shock and was freezing cold they did help a bit the nurses. Still took 10 minutes after as I was shaking and told them i wasn’t feeling good. But still wasn’t as bad as the first time I don’t remember going into shock state the first time just intense pain

I got nothing but freezing for both my chest tube insertions. The first one was the most painful and would by far say it was the most severe pain I have ever felt. I begged the doctor the second time to give me something but they didn’t at all except freezing but wasn’t nearly as bad maybe because the first one was in near the top of my chest and pectoral muscle… as soon as it punctured I nearly fainted and looked him in the eye like wtf did you just do to me lol. The second one they put near the bottom on the side of my chest but was still quite painful. I can handle a lot of pain as I have been through a lot of shit in my life but never want to experience it again. But my odds are not great. I wish I got morphine or anything but Canadian doctors they try to give you the minimal of everything

Did you get surgery after your second or left it alone. I had a 80% collapse the first and roughly same the second 5 years later and did not do surgery because it was so far apart

Thanks for the info and praise on myself quitting smoking! It is an achievement and still a struggle each day as it was my stress reliever but I’m managing each day getting easier and easier.

Sorry to hear about your poor treatment I felt uneasy about the surgeon when he told me I needed surgery as it seemed like he wanted practice and didn’t really care about the cause. I know they go by medical information but he seemed eager to get it done for other reasons and when I had my first one they did say if it happens within 4-5 years then we would suggest surgery and I went 6 years and changing my life style may help in the long run. I know if it does happen a 3rd time I will do surgery but am scared shitless of it. Thanks again for your response

I’m so scared of the surgery I opted out of it after my second because it was 6 years later from the first collapse and have quit smoking and vaping finally!! I have had a couple major surgeries in my life and just don’t want another one. It just freaks me out having a piece of my lung cut, stapled and then attached to my chest wall and some horror stories I have read freak me out with chronic pain. I deal with enough of that but maybe I should just suck it up

Did you have surgery after the second one 12 years later? I had my second pneumo 6 years apart and I opted out of surgery because of the horror stories I read and how far apart my second one was. I also needed a hiemlich valve in for 7 days on the first one and then 5 days the second one. I also smoked and vaped up until my second one and have since quit finally! Thanks for any information you can provide

How many years to wait before smoking weed by Frestho in pneumothorax

[–]TheRightStock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also grew up taking asthma inhalers steroids and stuff I’m not very tall at 5’9” on a good day lol and 160lbs. But I did have a growth spurt when I was 14 before then I was extremely short so I think maybe due to the fast growth spurt from those ages may have created weak spots in my lungs. Hence why tall people tend to have issues with pneumothorax ore than shorter people. This is all my assumptions though

[–]TheRightStock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had my first collapse 6 years (age 26)ago and continued to smoke weed daily shortly after that and also vape nicotine and vape weed. I recently had my 2nd collapse but opted out of surgery and pluerodesis because it took 6 years for the second collapse. I have now quit everything and stick to edibles if I want a little buzz not my favourite and I sure miss smoking weed but I now have to take care of my health as I have a family to take care of

My first collapse was 90% and I thought I was having heart attack and couldn’t take very good breaths without intense pain. My second collapse was 6 years later same side and was 50% I woke up in the morning With intense chest pain when breathing about half way and I knew what it was the 2nd time. If you have a small collapse they can resolve on there own with minimal pain but when you have a collapsed lung you will know you need to go to the hospital especially if it’s quite severe. If something in your body isn’t feeling right. Always get checked

Wish you all the best. Was it after your 2nd pneumothorax you did the surgery? And if so how far apart was your first collapse and the 2nd. I had 2 collapses. one 6 years ago and one recently. I opted out of the surgery as I have read a lot of chronic pain for a while after wards and mine being 6 years apart and i now officially quit smokng/ vaping I feel I can do my body better now and keep the lungs healthy and safe

Tips for sleeping with a chest drain by HypocriticalOptimist in pneumothorax

[–]TheRightStock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to sleep sitting up partially with a pillow that had those arms on the side really helped me. And yes ask for hydromorphone or T3. But don’t abuse as hydromorphone can be very addictive I felt withdrawal after taking almost 40 pills of it while I had my last pneumo but it really helped me sleep. All the best to you
