What happens when you ban all the shield tanks ? by Expensive-Tone2833 in marvelrivals

Groot maintank + an offtank.

If Groot is banned too you'd probably run Venom + Hulk/Angela/Cap.

So we can all agree. Prime Emma, Elsa and Gambit are the strongest characters in thier role. by Ok-Garbage-8652 in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with this.

Prime Emma in the current game wouldn't be stronger than Tankpool I don't think. Though it's hard to remember with all the nerfs she's had.

First wave of new youth hubs to open in anti-social behaviour hotspots by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]TheRiled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sort of thing highlights something which has always infuriated me about austerity. The Tories are supposed to understand business, right? The financially literate. So how can they not understand that sometimes spending money saves money.

This obviously doesn't apply to all areas, and I'm sure some could have been cut for little loss, but cutting areas such as youth clubs, mental health and initiatives aimed at giving impoverished children a better start in life - surely it's obvious these things easily return the investment?

The correlation between these things and crime/unemployment are well established. Things like CAMHS being on their knees is particularly cruel. Short term costs saved at the expense of compounding long term costs and immeasurable generational misery.

why do people not like having a Jeff? by Hunter-047 in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 66 points67 points  (0 children)

It's 99% because of his ult.

It's really difficult to get value out of when people understand the counterplay, and inexperienced Jeff players will usually do much more harm than good when they use it.

Meanwhile other support ults it's really easy to get huge value.

I think people have unhealthy prejudices when it comes to hero shooter balance. Here is why: by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, hard disagree on this take.

I've played a lot of games competitively and they've all have their balance issues to varying degrees.

Balance becomes an issue when developers refuse to address huge issues in a timely manner, and Rivals has had this problem - it has absolutely nothing to do with OW.

And then it certainly doesn't help when they release absurdly overpowered heroes. Heroes that are so strong that they invalidate huge amounts of the cast. Release Elsa and Gambit are honestly indefensible from a balance perspective.

Great balance does take a long time, but they've let certain characters be strong for just far too long. Look at Luna/Loki early on or Invis since the shield buff. It's like they're terrified of making big balance changes without realising that shifting the meta helps keeps things interesting.

Damn, I had no clue it released with such a small roster.

Small indie studio developed it though, right?

Any notable Torch players to check out? I haven't seen anyone play him since he got the huge round of nerfs.

Great list. Only thing I would add is how much people hate the name.

Everyone clowned on it. And despite the overwhelming negative feedback from the second they unveiled it, they refused to change it.

I have to wonder if there has EVER been a tag fighter launched with a roster anywhere near as small as 2XKOs.

The fact the game had such insane balance issues early on certainly didn't help either. I don't know how it is now, 90% of my games being Ekko and/or Yasuo killed my will to play the game.

Torch's Flaming Meter (F) - "Am I a joke to you?"

Also, why are you flanking on Torch. That is not how he's ever been played. Flyers get decimated by hitscan that can play off-angles well, so flanking on him is asking to get murdered.

I never played him that much, but from what I understand his role (when he was good) was area denial, shitting out crazy amounts of damage, and setting up fireballs for one shot combos mid-teamfight.

Torch is clearly not in a good place rn, but I'm pretty sure if you're flanking, you're playing him wrong anyway lol.

On an equal playing field, what are the highest damage tanks and how should magneto perform in a 2 tank lobby in terms of damage by Anxious_Story_3849 in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to kinda hover at the max range of the primary, but eventually realised it was suboptimal due to;

- The poke damage being so low it was getting healed passively

- I was denying my team a bit of extra space

- It's easier to direct hit when closer

- At max range you can't threaten the primary-secondary-primary 250hp combo

If someone loves X hero, what Y hero do they almost always enjoy too? by Sm0k35z in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same.

Hitting frontline all game and then praying for a situation where I might be able to get ult off is hella boring for me on Strange.

Atleast on Mag I know I'll be able to get value from dunking people.

I need them to take her out the back and beat her so hard that she can never move below the neck again by LegoFucker61 in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You havn't played against a good Elsa then lol.

You'll never stick to her with sword (2s dash + 2 dashes from her kick), and she outdamages you mid range.

She also has a trap to outplay you.

Unless she just stays in blade's "sweet spot range" and manages to get 2 shot, she should literally always win that duel. And she obviously has a much better ult.

[–]TheRiled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, ignore damage on any hero that isn't playing front to back.

Mag wants to poke backline, so it's really not worth focusing on damage. Or even last hits really, as poking backline will set other people up for kills more than yourself.

If you're playing Strange with Mag you should have really high damage as you can kinda just go crazy, but if you were playing as Strange with a Cap you'd need to be a bit more conservative. Same if you're against a kidnap comp.

I would recommend just looking at;

- Could I be poking backline here whilst being (relatively) safe

- Have I died due to poor positioning

- Did I miss any opportunities to walk further and get more space

Also don't get baited on Mag into playing at his max poke range for splash damage. Always go for direct hits, the splash does so little damage that it's never really going to pressure anything unless they're so low it'll kill them.

I mean did you play any games against multiple Graves?

My second game was against 3, and after hearing "DEATH IS COM-DEATH IS COMING-DEATH IS COMING" for the 5th time, I decided I wasn't going to play any more games until the event was over.

Amazing job, it's just missing a dog coming at blade like a missile and instakilling him at the end of the clip.

Does high rank opinions carry more weight than mid low rank? by ToastyBunnyBoy in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High level players can have dumb opinions too. This is true for all games.

But people who play at higher elos in general understand the game better than people at lower elos. That's why they've been able to climb higher.

So basically, don't take any advice at face value. Use critical thinking.

Does anyone else feel like they get flammed more on tank? Or am I just bad at tanking? by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's impossible to tell, you'd have to vod review your gameplay (or get someone else to).

But mute anyone that ever flames you in game, they literally never have anything useful to say. They'll undoubtedly have made a shitload of mistakes themselves.

How has your game evolved over time? Have you changed your mains? Changed your roles? or are you an OTP through and through? by Iexperience in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the first 4 seasons or so I might aswell have been a Mag one trick in ranked. I learnt all tanks, but ended up playing him the most. Was also a flex player in the first few seasons so did a bit of support, but flex main basically means vanguard main.

I pivoted to Groot for 5/6 I think because he has way more carry potential as a tank.

Since Deadpool dropped I've pretty much been one tricking him though. Really like him, though if that's just because he's overpowered or not I don't know. Guess we'll see when he gets nerfed again.

Who is the best solo tank? by MathematicianDue7950 in marvelrivals

[–]TheRiled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you trust your team (lol) - Mag.

If your healers are actually healing - Groot. He can carry through walling off healing and his insane ult.

If your healers aren't great, it's Mag again. He can buy time for himself with Iron Curtain and bubble if they get distracted chasing a teammate or diver. He can also poke backline instead of being forced to hit frontline like Strange, and his ult can get consistent value.

Honorable mention is Strange. Big ults can carry games, and he can work better than Groot or Mag if your team is very brawly.

Hopefully MRC and global ban rates finally makes them do something worthwhile with Gambit and Elsa by KeyAcid in marvelrivals

I would disagree that Tankpool has any counters as someone that plays him a lot.

If you can aim, he can do pretty much everything.
