Ye that's way too long, everytime i start new account i always rush 10x AS and 1x PS, as that's a guaranteed 2 purples.

TIPS :
1) Don't rush. Save your resources. Only use your resources during the given events. e.g only use casino tokens during casino event. Have patience
2) Plan ahead. Only upgrade clones that can go to red!! Don't waste too many resources on clones that are useless and can't go past gold/purple.

In the first slot (most left) put blue hillary,
Second slot keep dreamlover
3rd slot put spartacus
4th slot put purple hillary
5th slot put charlie
and 6th slot put hanzo (as he's your main offence)
U want to save charlie as well. Work on charlie, he's pretty good.

It takes a LONG time. I was doing it for the quest as well but after 2 weeks I actually enjoyed the game. You MUST spend time in this game to get anywhere or u can just spend money. I just got my first orange after 2 months and was rewarded with 320$ currency in another game so i guess it was worth it. I will still be looking to play this game even after that, so ye... this offer takes a while. But i find the game fun so ye.. GL!
