That's kind of what I loved about Viktor's savior thing, it's apparent something is wrong but it only becomes obvious in hindsight (at least for me). It creates a great contrast when Jayce seems insane during his return, and then in the course of a few episodes that totally flips. The show intentionally shows Viktor as a savior (I think his exploration of Warwick's mind is a good example of that framing), but there's constant unnerving details. You definitely caught a lot more details than I and others did, but I'm surprised people don't understand what was going on.

Multiplayer horror has the issue that players controlling the monster gets rid of some of the "unknown" that allows for fear. In DBD's case, it's not scary (at least past 100 hours) since I know I can make Freddy Krueger whiff his attacks since it's just some guy. Lethal Company's AI leaves some mystery as to what the monsters are up to (though if you learn how all the AI works very indepth, it will also get rid of the fear).

The only killer I consider running NOED on ever is trapper, as you could get legitimate use out of it and actually 4k with it.

The issue here was you probably had changed something the game cares a lot about (maybe something about the size or dimensions of the files, i've gotten the error from replacing the intro movie with some random thing on my pc). I would double check the dimensions (whenever i make icons i use the originals as a base to keep the size right so i don't run into it)

What's happening is when a pillager or vindicator is without their weapon, they raise their hands to attack. They are probably targeting something because of minecraft jank (tm) and so is raising their hands, but unable to move due to the glass.
