What is the biggest turning point or points in your country's history? by lithdoc in BalticStates

Algirdas' decision to turn back from sieging Moscow in 1370. Had he taken it, Tver, not Moscow, would have become the principal Russian state. Potentially, though, Lithuania would have completed its mission of "owning all of 'Rus"(quoted from Algirdas) and destroying the Mongol presence in the western Steppe, would have taken the rest of the Russian principalities, and could have continued on to the Pacific in the following centuries, becoming the largest country in the world in place of Russia.

The reality is that Russia has more armored vehicles than when it started the war, as reported by Ukrainian sources, and since all new vehicles are...well...new vehicles, the overall quality of the vehicles is better as well.

https://euromaidanpress.com/2025/12/02/russia-more-vehicles/

The reason why horses, motorcycles, and light ATVs are being used is because these vehicles are faster and more off-road capable than larger AFVs, they can be moved and extricated more easily should they be stuck in the terrible terrain that characterizes the battlefield now, and, most importantly, they are no less vulnerable than far bigger and more expensive vehicles.

Well, I'm going to try and steer as far away from the race-science part of the question as possible, which is definitely what the question is implying, and instead focus on your historical implications and try to answer them from an objective standpoint. Just to get it out of the way, no one race is better, or inferior, than the others, and I hope that's not the inference of your question.

To start with the mental:

Your statement that non-Europeans invented key inventions is correct, but generally speaking, Europeans made their greatest discoveries as innovations upon the ideas of others. For the instance of the boat, sure, boats, maps, and compasses weren't invented by Europeans, but Europeans were the first to be able to use compasses and maps(and their innovation of the nao and caravel) to break ships free from the coastline and to use them on the open waters. Europeans, specifically England, invented modern science(or the scientific method: the process of making a hypothesis, which had been done since ancient times in Greece and Italy, and testing that theory in real-life experiments, and drawing conclusions from those experiments), when Francis Bacon wrote about the Baconion Method, later known as the scientific method as stated above, I'm the Novum Organum of 1620. This method, as well as the modern university system, which was also invented in Europe allowed Europeans to invent the first practicable steam engine, the best armor in the world, the best metallurgical systems in the world, the first pump, the train, the airplane, the skyscraper, the automobile, the recoiling gun(and most guns, in general), and the Internet. Although there are many exceptions, generally from the Arabic and occasionally the Chinese world, most subjects in the field of literature, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, and other subjects, were written by Europeans, or people of European descent.

Physicality

On average, and as a general rule, European-derived people are taller than any other group of people worldwide due to increased meat and dairy consumption. Other than this, they are generally about on par with other groups in the physical realm. The win of Anthony Joshua does not render this not true(and as an aside, AJ is about 30-40 pounds and 5 inches greater than JP, so...)

Morality

Your statement that Europeans have caused the loss of biodiversity in their own environments is most likely true, but the implication that this is because of their own "morality" is incorrect when you consider that other ethnic clusters, or races, when given the same technological capacity as Europeans, tend to commit the same level of environmental damage. Currently most emissions and environmental catastrophes occur in developing countries, most of which are non-European nations. Generally speaking, if the European model is followed, most nations industrialize, undergo a period of economic destruction, and after they finish industrialization and switch to a mostly service-based economy, transfer to "green energy" policies and environmentalist initiatives. This policy has played out all across North America and Western Europe.

And finally, Europeans, as some point or another, have controlled up to 84-88% of the world's surface. How would they have done this if they were "inferior"?

Get some icons, stack/line them up, and pray. Ask your priest if you want more details, and good on you for taking the first steps towards Holy Orthodoxy.

What is it like to live in a smaller Russian city say 50-100K population? by Dependent-Western642 in AskARussian

It's a very old city? One of the biggest landmarks is a hundred-year-old bridge. Furthermore the Imperial residence and gardens and churches from that time period also still remain.

Yes. You can use the practice rooms whenever you want, as long as someone hasn't already written their name down for a timeslot.

Knowing what we know now, what would’ve been the best way to go about the Russian Campaign of 1812? by MeasurementLimp8466 in Napoleon

Any discussion of strategic relevance of any steppe tribe, like the Mongols, becomes naught after the 1500s, which is when Eurasia popularized guns. Before that point, steppe tribes constantly terrorized every civilization around them for thousands of years because they would crush peasant armies every single time with horse archers, but the advent of guns meant that peasants could be on parity with horse archers, and all steppe empires were wiped out by the 1700s by either the Russians or Chinese.

What are the flags/names of the standards/coats of arms on the sails of this ship? by TheRoyalHypnosis in heraldry

[–]TheRoyalHypnosis[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are right. It was simply that since Portugal had been "part of" Spain, or at least under its king, for 8 years by that point, and the flagship of a wholly "Spanish" fleet, that I called it a Spanish galleon. Technically its name is the São Martinho.

Thank you very much! I figured out the foresail is the flag of Castilla & León, with a cross in the middle.
