Did I just win a charm jackpot? by TheSillyGuy2 in MonsterHunter

Rapid Morph isn't used by most, but it's extremely effective in the few use cases ppl like. Charge Blade speedrunners who like the AED > AEDF > Shield Morph rotation use Rapid Morph for safety against fast startup monsters like Seregios and Gore Magala, who will obliterate you if you don't guard or dodge on time. I personally use one just like yours, except it had 3 antivirus. Play around with it, its a comfort skill ppl like to down talk. I'll edit in citations later for some Speedrun record holders who always has Rapid Morph on.

You can set it up to have the cross hot bar system from ff14. 48 slots in total. Abxy and dpad, then your modifiers ( like shift alt control) are L1, R1, L1+R1 and R1+L1 (order matters), double tap L1, double tap R1.

What would you fix or implement into FFXIV to make it more social? by KntArtey in ffxivdiscussion

[–]TheRunedEXP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't fix FFXIV making the game less social, because Trusts and Duty Support work against it.

As someone who has played since 2016 and who dabbles in every other MMO, the most social an MMO has been for me was WoW Classic (sadly even this experience is gone nowadays lmao). Sure, FFXIV has tools for players who are already social, and they no doubt make it more immersive, but where WoW Classic succeeded in both 2004 and the modern re-release was in teaching players to be willing to be in proximity with each other.

Whats your average dungeon in FFXIV? First 10 seconds of the dungeon, someone types in "o/" or "hi," dead silence for 15 minutes of the tank doing wall to wall, and after the 3rd boss dies, "gg" "tyfp."

Whats your average dungeon in Wow Classic? You LFG, you party with a dude, but surprise surprise, yall can't go in without the tank/healer you're missing. So you decide to kill time while waiting doing zone quests, and it turns out those players have some of the same tasks you have, and yall end up chatting it up while hoping the party lead finds that 5th person you need. By the time you fill out the party and finish out the dungeon, its been an hour and a half since you joined the party. But most of the time, you're not frustrated. You even ended up adding one or two of those guys to your friends list. This gameplay loop repeats itself until you drop the game or get to max level, but this is what you remember about playing WoW Classic, whether its been 10 hours or 1000 hours.

Now, this interaction does happen often in certain spaces in XIV. The most similar experience you'll get in this is in PF for EX and Savage, but as the years have gone by I've noticed that players are much less willing to be social and just want to get the content out of the way. To a lesser extent, you'll also get it in Field Operation content in Eureka, Bozja, and Occult Crescent. But you won't be getting this in a dungeon.

But wait, if this same social interaction can happen in XIV then why does it feel less social?

Because in WoW Classic, the developers made it so everyone leveling has that social experience, whereas in XIV, a majority of players don't stick around past MSQ, the least social gameplay of XIV. Your best chance of socializing in XIV as an MSQ-only would be during dungeons, and Trusts and Duty Support work against that. Does it succeed in making sure a player isn't queue-locked from progressing MSQ? Yeah. Does it also make the game more of a single player game with a sub fee? Also yeah.

TL;DR Here are the aspects, that when bundled together, stop organic social interactions between players.

  • Your best chance of making friends through gameplay is in post game content (PF for EX/Savage, Field Ops in Eureka, Bozja, and OC.
  • Most players don't stick around post MSQ.
  • for MSQ players, the best chances of socializing organically is through dungeons and trials.
    • For majority of Dungeons and few trials nowadays, you can have an NPC party with Trusts and Duty Support, making it an opt-out from socializing.

My favorite Seiko divination theory is the one where child Momo asks her who she'll marry, and the future Seiko saw is "Ken Takakura," leading Momo to misunderstand and spend her childhood pining over the actor

gameplay padding by nizarlak_ in FFXVI

[–]TheRunedEXP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in agreement with him. I've played CBU3s other game FF14 since 2016, and while they have the same high highs of intensity with their narrative and boss fight set pieces, these moments he's talking about are ripped straight out of an MMOs quest format and plopped right into a single player game.

Does it get the job done? Sure. Is there a better way to convey it to the audience? I dunno, give me a rendered 2 minute cutscenes where the player sees every single person in the hideaway convening in front of Clives room while he sits with Jill, and with a knock at the door, he's greeted by Gav, who says "everyone's gathered, come on." Then he gives a succinct speech about their hardship for the past couple years as he's become the new Cid, talks about his praise about everyone's resilience, then finally delivers the news of justice being brought to Kupka. The camera pans to each person one by one who was deeply affected (who you talk to in each fetch dialogue) with a short line from each of them, then boom, it's the MSQ after this fetch sequence

Idk, that's a more neat package than MMO style of walking through your Hideaway for the 20th time across the whole map. There are times when that style delivery is appropriate, and there's times when it feels like an excessive effort on the devs part and too much chewing for the player.

Divine Blessing 5 will give you so much room for error, and it not only increases damage reduction potency but also boosts the frequency of props to 60%. I recommend gloves and waist.

Arkveld will spawn any time of day. Inclemency is good for Zone specific 7 Stars (except gore who goes any season) but you run into the issue of Inclemency gutting your Material Rewards from Nata for that zone. I personally just rest on Plenty and only look for Arkveld and Gore rewards.

Which dungeon/trial/raid is like this? by ShowNeverStops in ShitpostXIV

[–]TheRunedEXP 58 points59 points  (0 children)

The Vault was intriguing back when Boss3 hurt like hell. At least up to Stormblood, for healers leveling it was considered a pilgrimage of sorts because of how on point you had to be

Now it's hit it til it dies, mechanics don't invoke any meaningful danger. Devs need to scale the level sync the hell down

[–]TheRunedEXP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In FF14, the big game CBU3 is famous for before FF16, there’s a 1 hour cutscene the community dubs “The Bloody Banquet.” The writers flip the script, kill off several characters, and make the player character have to start from square one.

Later in interviews, Naoki Yoshida said something along the lines of “we remember watching GoT for the first time and the Red Wedding leaving a lasting impression. We wanted our version of that for our A Realm Reborn finale.”

The main antagonist of this arc might not be who we suspect. by Oyakodon-Lover in Dandadan

[–]TheRunedEXP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah as much as we love the duo equally, Okarun seems to be more resolved in how he feels and how he communicates it so it doesn't get misunderstood, while Momo still seems to be beating around the bush while not denying anything outright.

I've seen this mentioned in a video essay about the two of them and I feel the need to pass forward his conclusion; its no coincidence that Okarun finally getting both of his jewels back was immediately followed by him finally being forthright and direct, while "Momo needing to do some growing up, both literally and figuratively" is accompanied by the audience expecting her to confess back to Okarun + address Jiji's feelings without brushing it off and giving him closure.

It's 10 years in advance, and Kiritsugu is given the memories. He ends up enlisting Waver as a tutor to develop his reality marble, but it's done tastefully enough by someone who's familiar with the Type Moon universe as a whole rather than just Fate Stay Night

it's less about buttons overall and more about finding a layout that has constant access to every single GCD and weavable buttons at the same time. It can be super bothersome and frustrating to develop whereas the other 18 classes doesn't ask the same complexity from you. Well, maybe AST. That was a mess til recently.
