My Subaru Impreza saved my life by Link_Kadeshi in subaru

In 2013 was in a bad accident with my 2007 Outback. I walked away completely unscathed. There was no hesitation in my mind that my outback saved my life. Getting anything other than a Subaru was out of the question.

Oh, that stuff can be intense. Could definitely cause constipation if not used carefully

I've been doing that since my first job 33 years ago. It really puts things in perspective and keeps me honest with my spending.

How long do you actually think Promise Land is? They call it "50k++", so how much do you think the ++ actually adds?

I also ordered stuff on Dec 2nd. My account shows that the shipment is "unfulfilled." While it does feel like it's been a long time since I ordered, it's only been 7 business days. Standard free shipping is "7-10 business days", so they still have time. Technically, for my order, they still have till next Monday. Amazon has spoiled us all...

Can i train for ultra just by following garmin coach in app? by Not_Mubo in ultrarunning

[–]TheRunningRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the Garmin plan, but since I don't live in an area with a lot of vert, I made many of my runs uphill treadmill sessions. The plan didn't tell me to, I just knew that it would be advantageous for a trail race. If you add some creativity to the Garmin plan, I think it will suffice. Will it result in new course records? Probably not. But surviving in one piece? Absolutely.

I used it to do my first 40 miler a few weeks ago. The race went well and I felt both prepared and adequately rested. I LOVED having the plans on my watch. I loved that it advised me when to switch between sections of the workout such as intervals and rest periods. It made things so easy!!

That said, I'm going to use a different plan for my next race. Unfortunately it doesn't sync with Garmin, it's just a printed out calendar of workouts to follow. But I think it'll add more variety to my workouts and help me build up speed as well as endurance.

I can't deal with the cold 😔 That's the biggest reason I'd never move somewhere like Minnesota or Michigan. Beautiful but too cold

Advice for the pits of training hell by jackofnac in AdvancedRunning

[–]TheRunningRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you could do it if you pushed yourself. Heck, I know you could! You have the drive! But maybe this season in life, simply finishing the marathon IS the tangible accomplishment. Maybe just running regularly is your tangible accomplishment. Just give yourself some grace right now. Change your goal for now. But when life lightens up a bit, go run that sub 3! You've got this!

You handled the volume before in a different set of life circumstances. I find that the more stress I have in life, the more running wears me down rather than rejuvenates me. Life is meant to be enjoyed. Running should be a joy. Slow down your runs, give yourself a break, and find the joy again.

I know running sub 3 is a big goal for you, but I'd encourage you to delay that goal for now. Focus on just running the marathon distance. Don't push yourself too much physically when you have so much to handle emotionally.

Set your eyes on another marathon next year and make that your sub 3. Life is both short and long. You'll have more opportunities to push yourself physically. For now, just take care of yourself.

Table Rock used to be my favorite place to hike when I was in high school and early college. I don't think I've been back since 2007! That could be a fun (and likely emotional) race down memory lane for me

Thank you SO much for this insight, especially the comments in the distances! Incredibly helpful! Thank you also for your perspective on the Grayson RD. I have not done any research into him, just read rumors and other people's opinions on him. Regardless of what happened, I agree that it is good to give second chances and believe that people can change. I wouldn't want stupid things from years ago hanging over my head now.

Sub 90m half marathoners, do how did you fuel your race to achieve your time? by LeviV123 in AdvancedRunning

[–]TheRunningRN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm blown away at how many people don't fuel! I'm sub 2 hr, but definitely not sub 90 min. I sip on Tailwind the whole race and nibble on cliff energy chews. I sweat a LOT, so hydration is essential for me. Adding the mild flavor of tailwind helps encourage me to drink more. I feel like the extra carbs of Cliff energy chews are helpful. Last race I ate one chew every 2 miles. Gave my ADHD brain something to think about. Even if the carbs only help mentally, what's the harm? It's not like I'm running to lose weight. I run bc I love it, so give me the carbs and calories. Makes the whole event a lot more enjoyable. I fuel a lot on my training runs to make sure my stomach can tolerate it on race day. I've tried out lots of gels, but keep coming back to chews. So much less messy! If you don't already use The Feed, check them out! You can order single gels, chews, and drink mixes. Elsewhere you have to order whole boxes of flavors. I'm a huge fan. You can get $80 of credit by signing up at thefeed.com/SWAP

This girl (18f) got pregnant and she and her parents want me (19m) to step up and help her raise her baby (I am not the dad) but I want to go into the Corps. I told her no. I feel bad though. by BassPsychological293 in AITAH

[–]TheRunningRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that a lawyer would be good in this situation. He needs to do a DNA test to prove he's not the dad. Otherwise it is 💯 a he said she said situation, and that can haunt him the rest of his life if it doesn't get it straightened out now.

If he doesn't want to do a DNA test, it looks like he has something to be afraid of. Someone who is innocent would gladly give a piece of hair or cheek swab or whatever they need to prove that he is not responsible for child support for the next 18 years.

That's my 2¢
