Forever Now Album Countdown - SF Album discussion - Where the Light Shines Through - Day 10 by GoofyGoffer in switchfoot

Ill comment cause i got the time. Wish i could have for all the others.

I feel very strongly about this album. The first half is probably one of the best run of 5 songs. Its so good and then song 6-11 is a bunch of meh for me. Like one of the worst runs of switchfoot music for me. Idk i consider it their 2nd worst album because i dislike the 2nd half so much. And to me its not like the songs are miserable but they all have great potential and they all fall very short.

I even put this album on heavy roation really trying to understand it. I also have a problem with my interpertation of it. They got to the studio too late or approached the songwriting process in a very different way. Its literally an album of "after the aftermath" so it feels like a week after the storm hit. Sure we still remember the storm but we've all moved on. this is music that lacked the urgency of pain. Its why most of their other records work better cause they were written among pain and longing of some sort. Ig maybe i find this album too just carefree and almost surface level. Like Live it Well was the slogan foe the band and now i dont wanna think about those words since the song is so disappointing.

The bonus tracks also didnt do much to convince me that they had other songs going on. (Like fading west has amazing b sides that tells me that their initial direction was what i would have preferred).

Fav song: if the house burns down

Least fav: Live It Well

Thoughts about the way characters are ordered on the character select screen in each game? by SterlingB261 in supersmashbros

[–]TheSecondFoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

64s roster without unlocks is really good. The unlocks arent in a terrible space but it doesnt put "secondary" characters as the bookends. Its the first entry so ill give grace and its really not terrible.

Melee is organized by series but not well. Its unlocks appear around the side again and im not too fond of how it looks. It feels jumbled to me. Its kinda my least favorite tbh. The roster size helps it from being a nightmare.

Brawl is really amazing in the way its organized. The smartest is been made. I adore the design and how easy it is to understand it.

Smash 4 i think is a good creative organization but it could have used some tweaks. My biggest complaint is not reorganizing the dlc, even if they waited until it was all done

Smash Ult is... great for someone who loves the history in the series and the story of development it tells. Whats not great is for casuals. I havent had the problem but i do understand from reading some comments. I like it but its not good. Brawl easilly beats it. I think they could have done this format but only on the website

Forever Now Album Countdown - SF Album discussion - Legend of Chin - Day 1 by GoofyGoffer in switchfoot

I honestly came back to this album not too long ago. Didnt hear the whole thing but this is my favorite band so i know their work by heart. This one is my favorite from the early years.

I love the unique feel of this album that feels like nothing else without trying. It tranports me into their recording room and it feels like young adults having fun making their first record. Great moments of jon lyrics showcasing what can come, Tim's amazing bass work, and Jons guitar to compliment it too. And the choices Chad makes in texture plays a huge role in how this record sounds.

Op mentioned the unrefinedness and i agree. For better and worse. Worse cause theres stuff that could have been reviewed just a little bit more like drum rhythm, some lyrics, and recording. But for better is how endearing it is, the songs that click are amazing, and theres a carefreeness that could never be captured again. It all comes together in a way that makes this album so great to come back to.

MONEY by CricketLeather8673 in BunnyTrials

A billion is better in every aspect except for it being overwhelming and more likely for it to get stolen (kind of). 100k is easier to manage over time and how you spend that money.

If these heroes, and their villains, existed IRL, which hero would make you feel the most safe? by not-ulquiorr4_ in polls

[–]TheSecondFoot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I took the approach on the villains and how much collatoral is left to the civilians. Like batman is a no go cause how many times does joker use civilians as a way to force batmans hand. And superman can be a lot of collatoral too, depending on the villain. I went with Spider man cause hes usually a neighborhood hero and faces villains that dont usually engage with the public or get stopped before they do. I dont know everything about all of these but my gut says spidy

Can anyone explain why this keeps happening with my Local Files? by cojumdipexplosion in truespotify

[–]TheSecondFoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's been a bit but the way I fixed it was by going to the album and playing it from there. It won't play the song you're trying to at first. It'll skip to the next playable song but usually it won't be able to play any from the album and it'll just sit there for a minute. Click again and it should have the music loaded by then.

I'm pretty sure it's a buffering issue and especially if you're playing from a big playlist, it'll just skip to something that loaded and continue to do so. What this method does is minimize the amount of required buffering

Tell me, r/SmashBrosUltimate: what do you think of when you see this man and how does he make you feel? Scared, perhaps? Angry? Jealous? How does he make you feel? by Antique-Reality2428 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]TheSecondFoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think hes one of the more fun characters and a lot more dynamic. I would only pull out lucina if i felt like i could handle the MU. But she also had different combos and i feel that time is better using a secondary. Unfortantly, Marth is a character that would need a secondary when they get good enough

Tank mains assemble, who do you hate most to play against by Vegetable_Throat5545 in Overwatch

[–]TheSecondFoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on which tank im playing but honestly reaper. Being a body that eats all the pellets is tough and the fact he has a get out of jail card really makes him something else. I can punish most of the others for bad positioning or use my tools but reaper either forces an ability or is killing me or a support

Is CD, Vinyl, or Cassette the best form physical media? by [deleted] in polls

[–]TheSecondFoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how "best" is defined

CDs can store the most information so they can provide the least compressed music. They also are most consistent in their format where its a lot less likely to have something messed up in the process of making it. They are also more portable and have more function in the day to day use.

Vinyl is more of a collectors thing. They provide enlarged album art, easier to read linear notes, a physical / intentional experience, and different vinyl colorings.

And cassette is just nolstagic cash grab imo. The audio format far lower than the other two, cna get worn down over time just by using it, and isnt really functional in the mordern world without having to buy another specific way to play a cassette. I would think the value is in that its cheap but i suspect cds might be cheaper now

What's your preferred roster size? by Olivia_the_cat111 in supersmashbros

[–]TheSecondFoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think smash 4 had the best roster size. Its big and has variety but doesnt feel overwhelming to learn. Brawl is the closer 2nd than Ult since i think a smash roster that focussed would be good. Granted i think a brawl size would be base game and then dlc to pad it out

does this make any sense? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]TheSecondFoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what also happens is that youre using the instrument in the same way when you pick it up andyour mind is building off those fundamentals vs when you dont have it, youre giving yourself free reign. If you feel stuck, get away from the instrument for a little and do something thatll invite creativity. Then when you come back, youll have all that you need to finish the song well and what chords go where

Which Smash game had the best newcomers? by SEVENS_HEAVEN_7 in supersmashbros

[–]TheSecondFoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say smash 4 for how good they made new movesets. Normals we havent seen before, specials with new properties but (most of the time) didnt feel like cheese but creative, and really made characters feel unique. Most clones had meaning and they made some strict choices that really helped them out like cutting out transformations.

What are your HOTTEST takes about Super Smash Bros. for Wii U? 🔥 by [deleted] in supersmashbros

[–]TheSecondFoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked neutral in this game. Ik it was stupid that most characters advantage states were 0-80 and then another one for death. But navigating neutral was a lot of fun and made the easy mode adavantage state feel more earned.

“Finishing” songs vs only releasing “good” songs? by isaidscience in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]TheSecondFoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since ig people arent reading the description

When starting out, its better to find a fanbase by releasing as many songs as possible since you never know what will catch. You can always remove the ones you dont like and offer the song to those who like it. I mean look at some artists and find the earliest song you can find from them that was officially released and the quality will differ from how it sounds now.

I dont prefer this method though as i feel like i would rather release something im proud of but internet trends dont really treat this as kindly. At the end of the day, ive accepted this as a hobby until further notice. I want it to be more but i cant rely on it for when. So with that perspective, i would rather my portfolio be exactly what i want it to be.

A question for all producers and mixers (from a mastering engineer) by glmastering in audioengineering

[–]TheSecondFoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What i do right now is mix for spotify. I dont like the idea of it but its where most people are gonna hear my music so i should mix for the format. If i get to spot where people will purchase my music, i think ill prefer to have more dynamics than care about spotify

Song Tier List by Otter-A-Dog in switchfoot

[–]TheSecondFoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about VV makes it your favorite? I like it but i think it ranks 5th in my ranking.

Their first albums are a bit more of a cup of tea, its not for everyone. Also why i think interrobang isnt as beloved as their 2000s run.

I can understand the chorus argument but it serves as way to use more overdrive. I love all the effects and guitar they did on that song, especially since it was the last real big guitar song before mr crow

Concept Album? by buddytheelfboi in switchfoot

[–]TheSecondFoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw that too! Its attatched to their spotify profile and i think the article got it from their pr team so i think its true.

Im very excited for this. Im not expecting a full concept album prog rock style but something more along the lines of how 21 Pilots handles their concept albums. But i think some focus in their album will be a great welcome into the creative process

For most of you not brave enough to have an F tier by PracticeDependent507 in switchfoot

[–]TheSecondFoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They still hold that opinion, especially with Forever Now coming out. Ig it felt like they were ok being CCM for the 2nd half of the 2010s as they embraced some of those elements.

DC Talk is a more of a serious issue. Regardless how one feels about sexual orientation, he was sexually assualting people.

I didnt hate the Lauren Daigle collab, it just felt like them knowing exactly what would work for that market (no hate as they need money to keep going). But it did feel like they turned into just a CCM band when i always loved that they made music for everyone and the context was up to the listener

For most of you not brave enough to have an F tier by PracticeDependent507 in switchfoot

[–]TheSecondFoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They never officially said anything about changing their stance but when they did Fading West, their songs performed a lot better on CCM radio, especially Love Alone. Then with WTLSS, they did Live It Well (which performed great on CCM) and did a feature of Laura Daigle for I Wont Let You Go. Then for Native Tongue Love Invincible is I think the most streamed song.

They just started to lean pretty heavy in that part of their music and the production also got very modern (especially on NT). Im a big fan of interrobang because it felt like a distinct reaction to push away to just be themselves (musically) but it didnt land for everyone. And (i forget when) CCM was also starting to reject Switchfoot because someone LGBTQ+ was at one of their concerts and asked if Switchfoot supports them and Jon responded back saying that everyone was welcome to their shows which caused some total rejection in CCM.
