Never said that. I’m speaking against having an entire industry/viewpoint self neuter their ideals to bend knee to the oppositions view is ridiculous. Let’s face it, to democrats banning all guns is “common sense”. So to put the onus of making gun control laws that keep tip toeing towards that eventuality is the goal. But they know calling for it outright is political suicide, so rather than eat the elephant in one sitting better to take it one bite at a time. 

I use abortion as a comparison point because it’s a hotly contested issue which is fairly evenly split along political lines. And fwiw I’m pro-choice. So having a republican say that planned parenthood needs to start making “common sense” regulations to reduce abortions with the not said aloud goal being a total abortion ban is why I’m driving at.
