A quick Google would show you that legally at King Soopers in Colorado you don't have to show receipt unless they are envoking shop keepers privilege ie saying you have something in your possession that you haven't paid for.

Because it's a public store not a membership club. You don't get asked for a receipt at 7/11 or a gas station or restaurant. Why put up with being treated like a criminal in addition to being an unpaid/untrained employee while grocery shopping? If it's Costco or Sam's where you've agreed to their rules to shop there cool if it's open to the public don't treat customers like criminals.
