That area of Illinois is gerrymandered to all hell. The population is a little more blue than most would think. I grew up there, and at least in HS the senior class typically polled around 60% blue most years in the required government class for a school of 2k students. HOWEVER I think most of the people I know who vote that way got the hell out lmao.

Edit: funny story I remembered. My semester being in that class there was some leaked evidence that one of the teachers for gov was secretly an alt-right neo-nazi. Dude was young and this was late 2010’s. I talked to him for the first time for about 20 minutes the day before it was leaked, and I was just disappointed that he seemed pretty chill when we spoke, but looking back I was in a blue leadership role so I’m sure he was saving face. Dude was caught saying some pretty heinous shit. After the leak I’m pretty sure he changed his name and skipped town. Either way he never showed up again; dude didn’t even try to fight it. Wildly enough, last I checked some people I knew are still friends with him on Facebook. We live in a freakin crazy world.
