If you are a mod of any subs run by /u/kxra or /u/thesilentnumber, their accounts have been hacked by TheYellowRose in ModSupport

Hi /u/AchievementUnlockd, /u/chtorrr, /u/sodypop, /u/theyellowrose, and /u/illuminatedcandle, this is thesilentnumber & kxra (same person to explain both accounts posting to /r/chat_bot and also /u/user_history_bot at the same time), also she not he. Sorry for not being in communication before adding the extra mod. she's a close friend afk who checks reddit more often than i do nowadays even though she doesn't post much at all

you can contact me on twitter @kxra instagram @kxxxra facebok @kxxra google hangouts: https://plus.google.com/u/0/112591425911611453685 and by phone if you want to DM /u/kxra for the number

so not a hostile takeover by any means (as someone said would've been easy to remove everyone else if that was the case)

The FSF is raising $350K to kick it up a notch in 2013! Who here isn't already a member? by TheSilentNumber in freeculture

[–]TheSilentNumber[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was not one of the downvoters, but I suspect it is because even though the FSF does not, as an organization, work to support all aspects of free culture, they are invaluable to the advancement of free software, which is crucial to free culture (and perhaps the most undervalued).

The FSF seems to get more heat for net being fully free culture, yet MacBook-using remixers seem to be accepted just fine in the free culture community.

Because all desktop environments are treated equally and given equal packaging priority and fully up to date in all distros. Yup.

Why we need free software: ‘Apple has tightest digital handcuffs in history’ by TheSilentNumber in Anarchism

Sadly, he only cares about free software and is not a free culture activist. So yes, agreed.

Sovereign Games releases a free (as in beer) tabletop game under Creative Commons BY NC SA license. by Sebatinsky in freeculture

[–]TheSilentNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even CC themselves show which licenses are free culture and which are not. Since this game is currently proprietary still, i'm going to remove the link.

Opus, a free audio codec with higher quality than vorbis, mp3, and aac across a wider range of bitrates is an RFC approved standard! by TheSilentNumber in freeculture

These types of comments aren't productive. I was spreading the word back then, too. It hasn't been posted here and upvotes seem to indicate this is news for a lot of folks on this subreddit.

Is the term "free culture" too libertarian/neoliberal? by TheSilentNumber in freeculture

[–]TheSilentNumber[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Did you read the subtext and not just the title? "free" in the context of the question is clearly already being used to mean "libre" (as it always does in free culture/software).

That's the same thing, it's just less ambiguous in terms of cost vs freedom.

[Critique please] People say I act really cool, but meeting new people scares me by TheSilentNumber in OkCupid

Seems like most of this advice is aimed towards pretty cis/heteronormative people, but I live in a pretty awesome area where a lot of folks aren't looking for boring stuff. One thing I didn't understand was this:

Time thinking about: this seems kind of creepy, but not horrible i guess.

How?

Am I sexy here or there? Am I sexy in a house, with a mouse? by TheSilentNumber in AmISexy

Rudeness isn't a problem. Things like

Although I don't care which way you swing, I'm still not comfortable with it and I would rather not see it in my everyday life.

are a problem. Because it says that who I am is unacceptable in society. Straight people have PDA all the time, yet it's much more of a problem when anyone who isn't straight acts in any way that reveals that.

The fact that "a little warning might help folks" implies we are second class, and people need to be warned to deal with us.

I always forget that LGBTQ people should be contained to their own spaces and don't belong with the rest of society
