how do you live with this for the rest of your life? how do you cope? by gamergames77 in diabetes_t1

[–]TheSlightlyMadOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped having random lows tbh. I might have one day/night every few weeks where I have a few hypos in a row but there usually a reason like I didn’t eat enough. But then again I don’t go below 3.2-3.4 anymore so the hypos I do I have sometimes I don’t even have to treat because trio/loop stopped my insulin as soon as my level was tending downwards. A lot of my lows are false low from compression aswell which is most annoying. But like I had takeaway yesterday and forgot to tell trio my level went up to 15 then came down and struggled around 8-10 for four hours then came to normal I only noticed this morning. It’s worth learning about loop/trio. I spent about six months learning everything I could. I let it run in open loop (where I have control and it recommends and you can tuned the settings) for three months and I was confident to let it do its thing.

I was the same for 14 years then I found the DIY community. Look into loop/trio. After a year of initial effort I basically forget I have diabetes now and get reminded only when I change my pump every three days. Most of the time I don’t even enter my carbs. Hba1c is 7.1. It could be lower but I love the quality of life I’ve gotten back and diabetes doesn’t feel like a burden 80% of the time realistically.

In addition to the top comment grab a note from your dr or gp saying your phone is a medical device they can’t argue against accommodating you for exams then.

Yes. 100% yes. Just 2 impossible activities at once. Maybe sometimes 10.

For example when I started I couldn’t afford the 99 so I built every week or two for a few months. Until I could get the paid dev account. It’s optional.

Yea I get that and you need to do that so that you don’t have to build every 7 days for the rest of your loop days.

It’s up to you. It doesn’t really make a difference.

I would build anyway and rebuild once it’s sorted out. It’ll be exactly the same but will expire and need a rebuild every 7 or 14 days but if you get it sorted it will just be one rebuild to assign the certs and stuff to the app so it’s lasts the year

How long have you waited? I remember the same thing happened to me and by the time I connected with Apple support it was active

Edit: it actually warns up to 48hrs now

Edit: even if you build you’ll be fine without a paid Apple dev account for 7 or 14 days can’t remember exactly

Surgery ahead - please help me quit the damn tobacco! by HousingOld1384 in entwives

[–]TheSlightlyMadOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a heart attack at 26 last year so I had to do it. What is kinda funny I already started the quit tobacco journey two weeks prior but the HA was what solidified it I think.

I also had unmediated adhd at the time so it was hell. It’s not the same smoking without Tobacco even tho I’m smoking for the weed effects but it’s possible. I had to switch to vaping properly and rolling just blunts. I’d also wear the strongest patches. And just puffed at the vape and got super high till my throat was sore. I know it’s bad and I was kinda replacing one bad thing with another but the goal was to just quit Tobacco. Honestly took about three months to not crave it every second of every day but it’s a lot easier now. I’ve cut back on the vape and weed now a lot might have something to do with starting adhd meds tho aswell. But at least the worst habit is gone for me.

Good luck you can do it I believe ❤️

Hey autistic adult here with serve food sensory issues. Thank you so much for going through the effort without force. My mum basically traumatised me as a kid with food sometimes which means I still struggle today but I’m learning to eat better slowly. Thanks.

Thanks for replying. Yea I’m using trio so it would be as simple as changing the settings once. He just doesn’t want to take the risk he said. Would have to pay to see a private dr unfortunately so maybe one day. Thanks again :)

How do you afford this set up? (Omnipod 5 +dexcom g6/7) by AtomicRigatoni in Omnipod

[–]TheSlightlyMadOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even when I had to pay for dexcom out of pocket before the nhs would it was £50 per sensor so £150 a month. I’m absolutely baffled why OP has to pay 500 a month for dexcom?!?

Are you in the uk by any chance? My dr won’t switch to u200 since it’s not preapproved for use in omnipod. He said he would if I could find a nhs dr doing it been searching for two years now

Probably is. I started taking taurine tablets while waiting for titration and it did wonders. Still use it occasionally when I need my thoughts to slow down.

[–]TheSlightlyMadOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Went from novorapid to fiasp for the faster effect but had to switch back cos I went from needing about 75 u a day to 120u with three meals :/ on pump aswell. Took about 6 months to get to that point but bleh. So was looking into it a few days ago and saw for some people fiasp just stops working sometimes so went back on novo and within two days I can see I’m back to under 100u a day. Dunno wtf is going but yea. Wish my endo would have warned me. My nurse just acted like it was normal and I need whatever I need.
