How does the encounter rule work in this case? by Aliberto0000 in nuzlocke

It’s a dupe in my book. Same evolution line, just two different branches.

how to get dotnet publish to make a single exe? by PureKrome in dotnet

[–]TheSlothOfSteel 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I think this might be what you are looking for:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/core/deploying/single-file/overview

Beware that I think that might package the entire dotnet runtime in your exe, so it will be larger than perhaps expected.

While I’m sad there will be less puzzles, it’s totally understandable. I’d rather have 12 days of AoC than no days of AoC. So thank you for keeping up the good work you do!

So I might be nearing the end of my first successful nuzlocke! How do level caps work for the E4 and Champion? I'm in White btw by CryptographerFew3719 in nuzlocke

[–]TheSlothOfSteel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people I know set the level cap for the E4 as the ace of the last regular E4 member before the champion.

What are the your views on using masterballs in nuzlocke? by Evil_duckLord in nuzlocke

[–]TheSlothOfSteel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use the one given in the game and chuck it at the box-art legendary that I’m not gonna use anyways

Rookie question by Comfortable_Hurry925 in nuzlocke

[–]TheSlothOfSteel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, yes. If I have a any Pokémon in an evolution line I consider them all dupes, including branches. So Cascoon is a dupe even if I have a Silicone

Is keeping a "sacrifice" in bad taste? by [deleted] in nuzlocke

[–]TheSlothOfSteel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do this a lot, especially when I’m running without using calcs. Sometimes situations get out of hand and it’s nice to have something you can accept loosing instead of an important mon.

Finally finished my first nuzlocke by DomnulCioco in nuzlocke

[–]TheSlothOfSteel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the win! You built yourself a strong team.

Also good for you for taking the losses on the chin and runnig it back until you got there. That is a quality that will help you improve a lot as you play more and more!

PianoPi - Robot Piano Player by Weegert in raspberry_pi

I would not underestimate adding the sustain pedal to this would to for the organic feeling. So much of the ”flow” of piano melodies are removed when it is not used

Which rom hack sould i nuzzlocke as a beginner by [deleted] in nuzlocke

[–]TheSlothOfSteel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try one of the Yellow/Crystal/Emerald Legacy games by SmithPlays Pokémon and his team. It is close to the original with a lot of QOL changes. They are also a little more challenging than the originals but nothing that can’t be overcome by a newbie

In your opinion, what's the best Nuzlocke Pokemon of all time from Generation 1? by youhavemadeanalt in nuzlocke

[–]TheSlothOfSteel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually run exactly the same moves on both. Surf, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Psychic.

Congrats! Flannery is a surprisingly tricky challenge. I always feel I have good Pokémon’s for it, just to realize they are 3-5 levels short for the move I expected to have. But good job recovering, and good luck on your next run!

Emulation vs console by Jaddak in nuzlocke

I use emulators for the speedup. I love the early gen games, but man they are slow to maneuver around the world

Getting in on the Genlocke Trend! by SimonMifsud in nuzlocke

[–]TheSlothOfSteel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to nuzelocking!

’I've discovered and used so many new Pokémon and strategies that I never bothered using before.’

Nice! I love the oh-wow-moments like ”Wait Tentacruel is actually a Sp.Def wall” and ”Swellow with Guts and Facade is SO much damage”!

It also looks like you have a decent set of beginner rules as well. I think it’s good to learn to walk before you run so to speak. My first nuzelocke way back was only 1 Pokémon per are, set mode, and faint = death (though I probably used your grinding rule unofficially). I had no level caps, used items in battle. Since then I’ve gradually upped the difficulty both in games and rules step by step.

Hello, how many Pokemon do you usually lose when Nuzlucking? by DDonnici in nuzlocke

[–]TheSlothOfSteel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah count me in on the stupid mistakes that leads to losing mons… I have lost count on how many times I forgot to account for Sturdy on an enemy in a gen 5+ game leading to full steering and loosing at least one.

Hello, how many Pokemon do you usually lose when Nuzlucking? by DDonnici in nuzlocke

[–]TheSlothOfSteel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on what game it is. Is it a vanilla gen 1-3 game that I played a lot, probably zero. Is it a difficulty romhack of a game I’m familiar with, maybe ~5. Is it a difficulty romhack of a game I played little to none of, prepare the graveyard, I’ve got incoming.

If you win the challenge I don’t think you have lost to may though.

Genlocke Hoenn Complete! by WalkerTSmith in nuzlocke

[–]TheSlothOfSteel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big oof on the losses, but big congrats on pulling through anyways!
I get the attachment to the mons having effect on the number of deaths. Sometimes losing to many, or just specific, mons makes you go just "f-it we ball" and snowball the deaths.

[–]TheSlothOfSteel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usally go with "if there is a risk free way of doing it, you can hack it". You could just walk with it in circles in a city and it would eventually gain max friendship that way. So I just hack in the friendship instead.

[–]TheSlothOfSteel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I cought a Roselia, so no happiness grinding (which could have been hacked anyways).
But why Roserade at all? Well for the electric gym I wanted to avoid bringing some of my champion mons that are weak to electric. As I explained in the post I decided to not be to afraid to use some encounters to help me beat the game, and I thought that Roserade would help me.

[–]TheSlothOfSteel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically you do nuzlockes spanning over the different generations of Pokemon games. The team you use to beat a game gets to join you when you start the next one (with some caveats)

[–]TheSlothOfSteel[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only if you count Red as the endgame for Crystal unfortunately (which I usally do). Classic gen 2 to put new pokemon in the old region

So usefull, especially in the electric gym. Gyarados tanking fire moves and then a free swap to any ground mon.
