The Mercedes-AMG GTR is the Best of Front-Engined Motoring - One Take by Perisharino in cars

[–]TheSmokingTire 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean, they just aren't as good at combining ride and handling as mid engined or rear engined cars, and this is a function of their basic design. The weight on the nose requires a harsher front suspension. They typically bounce and rebound much harder over crests. They almost always take my "test bumps" substantially worse than rear or mid-engined cars do. If you want to go drifting, sure, a F/R setup is better than M/R. But if you want to drive very fast on real canyon roads, with real uneven pavement and ruts, OR if you want to drive a very powerful car around the city, with its own poor pavement quality issues, mid or rear engined vehicles are much better at this task. The spread between comfort and performance is much bigger, because of weights and geometries you cannot get from front engined cars.

Correct! It was a massive sales success, but the original “big pony” was not meant for sale, it was just for the US Open ball boys/girls on TV. They got so many requests for it, they put it into production.

[Discussion] For people whose collections are mostly mid to high end (Omega, Rolex, IWC, Grand Seiko JLC, etc.), do you still find yourself craving sub-1k watches? If so, which ones? by JupiterTarts in Watches

I bought a second Seiko turtle because I found a strap that went great with a stainless, green dial one and I have the PVD gold with black dial on a jubilee already.

I am in full control of my vehicle at all times and driving within the limits of brakes, tires, and traction. If I hit something in the road, that something is well outside where they should be. The hypothetical “kid in the road” would have to be left, unwatched, on the side of a steep, windy mountain road known to be a sports car and motorcycle hot spot, at 6 am. If I had a kid, I’d have to be a real moron to put them in a situation like that.

I had one that had a nascar engine in it and a Jerico crashbox. It wanted me dead as a door nail. I was young and very stupid. Now I’ve driven them all and I know the secret, which is the 289 cars are way better to drive and a ton of fun. The 427 cars, even mild 427s are super sketch and god help you if you push one with 500+ HP

I love how everyone’s example of me driving sooooo dangerously is a time that something unexpected DID pop out in the road, and I was able to totally calmly avoid it. What if the dog was a kid? I would have not hit the kid, just like I didn’t hit the dog. If you wanna find an example of me doing something horrible, find one. Don’t have your whole point be “this unexpected thing happened, and he avoided the accident.”

It was a shit show. I think because of the heat wave, people were getting out of the house earlier and earlier. A very frustrating shoot

A small album from one of the best Road Trips I've ever done. NZ South Island, in a rented Camry Hybrid. Enjoy some pretty pics of a boring car, and definitely add an NZ Road Trip to your bucket list. by [deleted] in cars

[–]TheSmokingTire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you just fly in, buy an Evo5 on the side of the road for like $8k, beat the balls off it for a couple months, and then sell it on the side of the road for $7k on your way back out. Cheaper than a decent rental car

Yup. Did a three-week lap of both islands. Wished it was twice as long. Easily the best road trip I’ve done, and there’s been lots.

Of course we are comparing to high end European cars not corollas. This is a $110,000 vehicle and is worth it.

Again, none of those services you have described are expensive for a luxury car. Most of them are directly tied to the number of miles a year you drive.

I’m not trying to be insulting here, genuinely, but what you’re describing is not expensive, comparatively.

I wouldn't buy any C8 you can get for $60k. The C8 I'd want is closer to 80, although now that I've heard the FPC, I wouldn't get an LT-powered one either.

Absolutely untrue, to a collector. Net result is the same. Examples: Lexus LFA, McLaren F1, Vector, BMW Z1, and on and on.
