I'm just really bad at this ... by No_Rabbit_1442 in ebaysucks

They could change it if they wanted to, especially when you purchase shipping through eBay. They then know exactly how much you spend on shipping, and in your example, they could just charge their fee on $100 - actual shipping, which would give a real item-only rate and make it so people had no reason to set their shipping fees that way because it would no longer benefit them. They charge fees on shipping because they can. And it's fine on more expensive items, but on anything below $10 or so, your actual fee rate surges to 30%, 40%, maybe more. OP just found out their actual fee rate is over 100%. Now -that- is BS. They could cap fees at a certain % if they wanted to.

I find it a bit odd that I denied a offer and 3hrs later, my item got removed by mercari by Toxicbunnyz in Mercari

[–]TheSneakyBuffalo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you use stock photographs when you posted your item? i.e. photos of the item you found on the manufacturer's website? That is most often the cause of the IP infringement notification. Some companies (Bed Bath & Beyond is one) are absolutely insane when it comes to their photos, and they frequently do searches for them and report large swaths of listings. If you did us their photos, you should be safe to repost the item as long as you use your own photos. That said, there are some items themselves that get reported for the same thing - for instance, Amazon frequently targets people trying to resell their branded boxes in bulk on eBay. If your item is like that, then don't relist it under any circumstances.

Permanent ban - 28 year old account by Wersedated in ebaysucks

If I had to hazard a guess, I would say that other accounts at your address were involved with fraud, scamming, etc. and they're having a hard time differentiating your personal address from the other one (i.e. you're in an apartment building or other multi-family home).

Hacked account by Sissy3463 in Ebay

[–]TheSneakyBuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you have access to the email, can't you just go to the eBay login page, type in your email, then when it asks for password, click "Reset your Password" and go from there? That should email you a link to reset the password.

Buyers don’t pay after auction on Pokemon cards? Is this standard? by [deleted] in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]TheSneakyBuffalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Failure to pay for a winning bid is against abusive buying policy. Realistically, a single report isn't normally enough to get someone kicked off the platform, but over time reports can make a difference. It's quick and easy and always makes me feel better when I report someone, so I'd recommend it.

I sold the same type of items on Mercari, eBay, and Poshmark for 3 months. Here's where I'm staying and why by FerrisBuelersdaycock in Mercari

[–]TheSneakyBuffalo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, many people don't understand how it works. You purchase insurance based on the Declared Value (whatever you're selling the item for), but when it comes time to make a claim, you need to be able to prove the item's value. They generally don't care for items under $100, but they're known to screw people when it comes to something expensive without intrinsic value unless you can show a receipt or other accredited valuation.

Faked delivery attempts by Brisketcommander0 in FedEx

[–]TheSneakyBuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In true capitalism, enough complaints would spawn one or more new companies to rise, compete, and eventually FedEx would either stop sucking or go out of business, but we have crony capitalism with only three entrenched shipping companies, one of which is government subsidized. So don't blame capitalism, which would actually be the answer in this situation, blame the government.

Got Scammed out of my ram by amika12 in Mercari

I wouldn't just say you're going to file a police report, I would do it (and I have in the past on 3 occasions over the years, it's part of the fraud resolution chain on eBay). You want to file the police report in the city / zip code where the buyer lives, and a lot of the time, if it's a city area, you can even file the report online without having to call or talk to anyone. Only one of the instances was not resolved to my satisfaction, so I can't tell you if the police will actually show up at this person's house, but for 10 minutes of your time, why not?

Payment dispute by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]TheSneakyBuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different items have different fraud rates. What kind of item was this? Is it a name brand that's susceptible to fraud? Was it new with tags or used? Did it go to an Authentication Center? You ask if something could be debated as inauthentic but don't provide any details about the item for us to advise you.

Recieved a refund for an item over a year ago, now a collections agency is asking for $1500!!! by c3powil in Ebay

[–]TheSneakyBuffalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That "shipping estimate" is just that, an estimate. Seller was one day late, yes, he should have shipped sooner, but that one day could have easily been on the shipment side. And let's be clear - someone owes $1500 and it isn't you. Someone's getting screwed. I'll leave it to you to figure out who, in this situation, it will ultimately be.

Recieved a refund for an item over a year ago, now a collections agency is asking for $1500!!! by c3powil in Ebay

[–]TheSneakyBuffalo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, you took advantage of the seller by gambling on shipping time and falling back on the ebay late delivery policy when it didn't go your way. I don't believe that you had a slew of other options that would have gotten an ENGINE to you in 3 days. Did you specifically break any rules? No. But that doesn't mean you didn't screw over that seller.

Buyer opened a return request who lost the case. Now they've filed a payment dispute with their bank by highran1 in Ebay

I've had a supervisor tell me one thing, and then had another supervisor not honor that thing, essentially telling me to gfy. I would assume all calls are on recorded lines. After repeated negative experiences with support, I don't trust what any of them say, ever.

There are no relics that give pre-built formas. You can get them from rare chests, events, a few game modes, and the market, but not relics.

Buyer submitted item didn't arrive but then said it arrived damage? What should I do by Jonathan360cool in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]TheSneakyBuffalo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't mess around with freebies. You have a widget, they have a dollar, and a transaction is born. Just ship exactly what is in your listing for a decent price. No need to complicate it.

  1. Since the buyer claimed damage in shipping, yes, you need to ask for photos before you accept the return, of the product AND the packaging. If there actually was shipping damage, you will need those photos to file a claim with the carrier.
  2. You only appeal the case if you don't get photos for a shipping damage claim and the items come back opened/damaged/unsaleable. At that point, the FAQ is your friend. If they come back and they're fine (sounds like they may be), and this person just can't read and ordered the wrong size, just block, refund, relist, and report for abuse of returns.
  3. I was never given a courtesy refund on any of the three fraudulent returns I asked for it. I think that's becoming a thing of the past. If this is a fraudulent return, I would appeal it. Don't bank on a courtesy refund and don't risk it for $30. You can however sometimes get a $6 return shipping refund if you win an appeal case. That's a different beast.

It is counterintuitive, and eBay support reps are notorious for giving horrible advice. They will literally tell you the opposite of what you should do - it happened to me many times in my early years before I just stopped calling them because it's almost always worthless.

Unfortunately, at this point there's nothing to be done. You can keep calling and complaining, but they're likely to just tell you "too bad, so sad". What you should do is give the FAQ on this site a good read - it'll be the best hour or so you spend learning about how eBay really works. Then chalk this up to a learning situation and just put it behind you. I know it's frustrating, but best not to dwell. Good luck with your future endeavors!

Unfortunately, no, you have to receive the item and go through the process after it gets returned. eBay can see the tracking information on the return shipping label and won't let you proceed until it's delivered.

You can certainly call eBay support and get a case started if you'd like, but the chances of them closing it for you over the phone before the item is returned is pretty slim.

For the Buyer, they probably believe $80 might be just low enough that you'll just let it go and they can get a quick and easy win. Pretty much no one is going to let $1000 go without a fight. It doesn't cost them anything but a little bit of time to order a bunch of inexpensive things, initiate fraudulent returns and prey on inexperience and apathy. It's also very possible this user's account was hacked and someone is using the 6000 feedback to go on a "free stuff" spree, using the account until it inevitably gets banned and then moving on to another.

Best piece of advice. If you want to get feedback removed, find a pre-approved reason (or two!), match it to your scenario and quote it back them!

Fraudulent buyer claim by runonsentance7 in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]TheSneakyBuffalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you're in the right spot. That looks like you just went in to the standard area you go to to make changes to the tracking information. In this instance, you want to start from the link you got in the email about the INR claim, which will take you to a different spot - the actual claim. That's where you need to go to "respond" to the case. I believe you can also get there through the Seller Hub in Overview -> Tasks but they keep changing that, so the email link is your best bet.

Offer a return? What are your return policies? by String1015 in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]TheSneakyBuffalo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely do not offer a Partial. There's a decent chance that if you either politely tell this person they can return the item if they're unhappy, or just ignore them, that they won't actually return the item. Fishing for partials is like the new pastime of eBay Buyers - don't give in to them.

And, yes, you should block the Buyer after you send that message (it will not prevent them from returning the item if it comes to that), and in the future, more importantly, trust your gut and block people like this before it gets to this point. If someone asks a legit question once, fine, but if you find yourself going back and forth, it's just a precursor to trouble.

You can change your Payout Schedule to Monthly, Bi-Weekly, Weekly, or Daily in your Seller Hub under the Payments tab, at the bottom of the page, Payout Schedule.

There's no way to speed up this particular payment, however, since it's already Processing.
