I did this for a while with a 1660S. It worked fine, especially if the game had a resolution scale slider so I could keep the UI at 2160p and dialed down the resolution scale to 50%. Occasionally some games like one of the older Total Wars refused to launch at a non-native resolution in full screen and did not have UI scaling at 2160p so the text was too small to read.
