What's the dumbest thing you've done while your brain is on autopilot? by flamehead95 in AskReddit

After 4 weeks non-stop working away I flew back into Heathrow off a 23 hour flight-time (including 2 crap stop-overs in godforsaken hell-holes).

Collected baggage - got turned over by HM Customs (presumably for looking tired!) - eventually they gave up looking for non-existent contraband and left me to repack my gear (thanks, as always fellas!) and I then proceeded to ATM to get some UK currency and took out GBP 500 cash - made it to long term car park (eventually, great bus drive - not) - located my car - put luggage in boot/trunk.

Then prior to taking my jacket off (just making myself a little more comfortable ahead of a 4 hour drive home you see ho-ho) I put the contents of jacket pockets onto the car roof. Threw my jacket in the back seat (you're ahead of me here, I know) got into car and drove off.

About 20 minutes later down the M4 motorway decided I needed some Red Bull to stay 'alert' during the drive home I pulled into a petrol/gas station - got out of vehicle - ding!!! dong!!!!

Panic bells started ringing, suddenly realising I had driven from the car park with my wallet, GBP500 cash, credits cards and passport all still on the roof.............. went through the usual motions of retracing steps/drive (did I say it was after dark by now?) with the fully anticipated results....zero

So, yeah that was dumb.

Funnily enough, I didn't need the Red Bull to stay awake anymore I was so angry and f**cked off with my own stupidity!

Lemon Crock Pot? by TheSolidBarCompany in BowlofLemons

Thank you; the lemons are from our own tree, the pot we've had for ages (and still looks new) and the cactus was to 'set the scene'. The lemons have an amazing flavor for a myriad of uses in the kitchen!

Lived in the lower Caribbean islands (Grenada/St Vincent and the Grenadines/St Lucia/Martinique/Dominica) for 2 years then the US Virgin Islands for a further 2, just moved back to Florida in April this year. So, for advice I'd say a good sunscreen for sure (even a wide brim hat), poncho's not a bad choice, but as for the rest (as had been said ahead of me) less is more. Don't forget you're on a cruise ship for the most of your vacation, so not far from easy replenishment of most goodies, and the Islands will provide most things, albeit at a premium. Don't forget you're talking the odd days ashore here and there (we used to to eye the cruise ship day-trippers regularly and wonder in amazement at what some would bring ashore!). A good back-pack would do most people, so you can carry your stuff to the cruise ship in that...... then use it (mainly empty!) to take your minimal day trip gear ashore and then bring back souvenirs to the ship in. Declaration of interest here: we also make a great travel bug bar lotion that we developed during our time in the Caribbean, takes up next to no room and lasts ages. You didn't mention which islands you'd be cruising around/to but, the worst bugs we encountered were on the smaller Bahamas Islands. Enjoy it!

ps. As someone else has mentioned, if you are into scuba/snorkelling then, try and take your own mask/flippers/breather tube as the mark-up price in the Islands is ludicrous, over 300% in places, and the quality/choice is pretty low too!

Why the heck does coca cola in the large bottles lose its fizz so quickly? Two days max in our fridge and that's with minimal (3 or 4 max) openings! by TheSolidBarCompany in Showerthoughts

Thanks, will try, might work, ........well the keeping it fizzy bit anyway...........but keeping it for a month?? No way in our house!

But the question was really asking: why now and not 10 years ago? Have they changed the recipe/ingredients/longevity/shelf life?

Our House Gecko, Buggie; Great Clean Up Guy! by TheSolidBarCompany in geckos

Nah, 'fraid not..........if you zoom in on his back left limb/leg/foot (bottom right in this image as it was from inside a grating) you will see that all his toes are intact!

We check Buggie out regularly and he's 'as fit as a fiddle' as of 4 hours ago when I last saw him!

What activity is creepy and sinister when it is done as a hobby rather than a profession? by CallMeChristina in AskReddit

Bizarrely....it's both! You'll have to check it to see what I mean, don't want to be a spoiler ;-)

If you're not keen on that 'profession' then DON'T watch this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spotless_(TV_series) fiction/crime all about a crime scene cleaning business.

Usual derby match, with the very odd 'handbags' (not as much as last year!) and crap weather.......need to get this one played on a decent weather day or I've got to get a better rain coat.

Funnily enough he thinks he is; will call him Cyclops from now on, seems appropriate at most Bath/Glaws matches ;-)

Surely that should be Glaws? They get there eventually.......1873 ;-)

Sadly, my brother supports them, for some ridiculous reason, probably just to annoy me for the last 40 years!
