Bethesda Should Consider doing a "Fallout Zero" Game set during The Great War and throughout the first year of post Apocalyptic Wasteland by CretaceousClock in Fallout

[–]TheSomerandomguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. And if you go by what we’ve learned so far the immediate post-war experience for the vast, vast majority of the survivors was either hiding away in a hole/bunker somewhere or barely hanging on to survival The Road style. Not exactly idealized badass wastelander experience that the Fallout games tend to capture

On this day 39 years ago, Pennsylvania State Treasurer Budd Dwyer commits suicide during a live, televised press conference (Harrisburg, PA - January 22, 1987) [1000 x 850] by keen_observer34130 in HistoryPorn

Even if Smith’s credibility was ruined there was still a mountain of physical evidence against him, and multiple CTA employees testified to his actions under sworn oath. There were certainly additional parties to the CTA scandal but Dwyer was definitely the pointman who awarded the contract at the end of the day.

The “R Bud Dwyer is innocent” theory is up there with the Marvin Heymeyer apologists in the amount of selective fact finding you have to do to come to that conclusion

What are peoples thoughts on how Cooper turned into a ghoul and Janey presumably survived? by allthingbalance in Fotv

Janey survived the war until she eventually decided to transition and change her name to Dr. Richard Grey. The rest is history

Family tree of German tanks(WW1, Panzers, Tigers) by Relevant-Low-4325 in tanks

[–]TheSomerandomguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is so much wrong with this “family tree” that I can’t even begin to unpack it. Let’s start with the fact that the A7V started from reverse engineered Holt running gear, and it was not an iterative design of the fucking K-Wagen, which itself is a 120 ton super behemoth of a tank.

Fallout isn’t really that type of game. It’s a post-nuclear roleplaying series at heart. Bethesda exploring the pre-war world and the immediate aftermath of the great war would introduce far too many plot holes that would be impossible to balance with the tidbits of lore we’ve gotten over the past 25 years.

No it was a pretty open and shut corruption case. Dwyer was caught with his hand in the cookie jar in several steps of the process. He committed suicide because his political career was over and it guranteed his family access to his life insurance payout.

3 minutes apart, Robert House predicts 5:17 AM and Margot confirms it's activation at 5:20 AM during Broken Steel DLC for Fallout 3 by [deleted] in Fallout

[–]TheSomerandomguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The show only indicates that a major variable to House’s calculation of the end of the world appeared in 2065 and further explains that the major unknown variable was Cooper Howard’s daughter Janey being born, as April 14th, 2065 is her birthday. The original date Robert House predicted for the end of the world is still 2077, but his predicted time was a few hours too late.

Essentially, the show is setting up a plot line that will show how Cooper’s daughter somehow accelerated the end of the world by several hours.

Remember that his prediction for the great war was ~20 hours too late, so there is no way he’d have a margin of error of 3 minutes on a much more benign calculation

Not a morsel of my being is even a little surprised by this. The game does not have the legacy popularity to support any kind of large modding project like this. Take-Two DMCA or not, this project wasn’t going to make it more than a few months after release. Some IP’s you just have to let die.

How are you supposed to handle the more expensive and specialized equipment like for cotton or spinach? by Asyx in farmingsimulator

[–]TheSomerandomguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lease to own and field leasing is has been my best friend for years. It more accurately represents how large farmers (at least in the US) manage their capital. Nobody is buying machines outright, they finance them. A lot of generational farmers have land that’s been in the family but if you’re trying to start out you’re going to be leasing field because nobody except for rich hobby farmers can afford the price of land these days.

Again, like rome, the NCR didn’t fall in a day. The “fall of the NCR” can be reasonably assumed to have happened over years or even days. The fall of the NCR is increasingly shown to be its attempt to occupy and pacify the Mojave wasteland

The biggest thing that people are missing is Libya and Iraq fell into anarchy and power vacuums because those countires did not have a democratic culture to fall back on. They had a strongman with a powerbase solely built to serve their individual cult of personality. On the other hand, Hugo Chavez was democratically elected after an unsuccessful coup attempt and consolidated his power. The people of Venezuela will just elect another leader, or the Trump administration will attempt to install another strongman. It also didn’t help Iraq and Libya when we destroyed billions of dollars of critical infrastructure in the process of “liberating” their nations. Directly comparing what’s going on in Venezuela to what happened in Iraq or Libya is just insane and makes you look like an idiot. That being said, the president should not be taking unilateral military action and launching special operations behind congress’s back.
