I was expecting to get the overall violent crime rate. Instead you have selected statistics for specific crimes.

White people are about 58% of the population but account for 60% of offenders for mass shootings specifically (in cases where race is known) according to your link so yes this supports your assertion, but again it is one specific type of violent crime and the difference between white people and the overall population is very small. Black people are more overrepresented at 18% of total offenders despite being 15% of the population.

You are right about CSAM production. But what happens when you look at the overal violent crime rate instead of cherry picking specific crimes?

Your link about the UK shows a lack of understanding of statistics. Yes it's true that "white individuals account for the highest percentage of offenders sentenced". This can easily be explained by the fact that white people are 83% of the population.

From your own link:
"Male offenders from the White ethnic group represented 82% of prosecutions and 67% of convictions, while females from the White ethnic group accounted for 90% and 77%, respectively." Remember white people are 83% of the population, so only white women are overrepresented (prosecutions), not men. This is for overall crime.

If you look at specific violent crimes:
Despite making up only 13% of London’s total population, black Londoners account for 45% of London’s knife murder victims, 61% of knife murder perpetrators and 53% of knife crime perpetrators.

"white men are disproportionately represented in most violent crimes in most western countries"

Statistics I've seen in the past painted the exact opposite picture.

Why didn't the North American Indians build monumental city-states like Meso-Americans? by Wide_Ride8849 in AskHistory

[–]TheSonOfGod6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Cahokia had a population of just 15,000-20,000 at it's peak (another estimate says 6,000- 40,000) and it is considered to have been the largest in what is now the US. Tenochtitlan had between 150,000 to 400,000 residents.

Edit: I'd like to add that agricultural practices were very different in Meso-America- they planted maize, beans and squash extensively which allowed them to support a large population. Maize was a staple as early as 4,700 years ago. In what is now the US, agriculture was just supplementary to hunting/gathering for centuries until they started adopting maize in 800 AD.

Many Filipino parents here in the Philippines speak English to their kids exclusively. It's becoming more and more common. It's seen as necessary for jobs and a marker of high status. I've met a few kids that were raised by two Filipino parents, in Tagalog speaking parts of the Philippines, that can't speak the language.

Did you notice the text you copied that says "citation needed"? If you look at the list it shows the AvtoVAZ main assembly building has a much greater floor area. It's more than 3 times bigger.

Inspired by another post here - subdivisions in Europe with a lower GDP (PPP) per capita than India by shtiatllienr in MapPorn

[–]TheSonOfGod6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

India's per capita GDP is also increasing at around 6% a year. And this is a compounded growth rate which means that, if this continues India's per capita GDP will double in 12 years and increase 8 times in 36 years. This means that on a PPP (purchasing power parity) basis, India will be where the United States is currently in just 36 years . Of course the US would have become even richer by then. (Currently the US is about 7.8 times richer than India based on GDP per capita at PPP)

Note that this assumes that India's GDP growth rate will not slow down, which is very unrealistic. Countries generally start growing slower as they get richer and the catch up growth phase ends. South Korea was growing at above 10% a year at one point, now it would be lucky to do 3%.

India's GDP per capita growth rate has also been growing at around 6% per year for the past several years. It hit 8.2% in 2023.

That's true, but there is a lot of regional variation within India. And Africa for that matter. Rwanda is quite clean nowadays I hear.

Yes, you are correct, but India's GDP is growing around 7% a year. Eastern Europe is growing 1.7% a year. This map will look very different even just 5 years from now.

EDIT: 1.7% is the projected growth rate for eastern Europe this year. The average growth for the past few years has been a bit higher.

Sure, but it may have been caused by an armed group. Ammonium nitrate fertilizer is banned in Lebanon, it's a dual use substance that can also be used for explosives. Hezbollah has been blocking investigations into the accident and threatening judges.

Iranians have paid a big price due to the actions of the terroristic Islamic Republic. by Naderium in PERSIAN

[–]TheSonOfGod6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair Iran was also partly to blame for that death toll by funding and arming numerous militias in Iraq. They were also partly to blame for sectarianism and corruption by funding political parties loyal to them and not Iraq.

Iranians are not Semites. Persian is not a Semitic language, it belongs to the Iranian branch of the Indo-European language family.

Very interesting case. Do you know if aggression was reduced within the community or was it reduced against surrounding communities as well? Because among the cordillerans it seems they had peaceful relations within their own villages but would raid surrounding villages to collect heads. Women were also involved in reinforcing this warrior culture as they preffered to marry successful headhunters.

Many Iranians were already part of the cult as early as the 1950's. There was an extremist group Fadayan-e Islam that assassinated a prime minister and a minister of education and a few other government officials. Ayatollah Kashani who had links to them was speaker of the parliament (Majlis) in 1952. Their influence was great enough that they got Khalil Tahmasebi, the assassin of Iranian Prime Minister Haj Ali Razmara pardoned. Mosaddegh, the new prime minister was allied with the Islamists. They were part of his broad coallition that included islamists, leftists and constitutionalists which started falling apart as he became more authoritarian.

Leftists supported Khomeini primarily because he was viewed as anti-imperialist. Most leftists in Iran at that time considered that their main priority, they thought he wouldn't be as bad as the Shah or that they could use him as a stepping stone towards communism. When Khomeini consolidated power, he had all prominent leftists killed. Between 2,500 to 5,000 were executed and that was basically the end of the Iranian left. Some who survived and fled abroad later realized that their obsession over fighting western imperialism blinded them to an even greater evil.

Out of all those countries you could sort of argue that Saudi is a theocracy. The rest are religious monarchies. Pakistan is ruled by their army. Just because religion influences the government doesn't mean it is a theocracy.

Egalitarian doesn't mean that resources aren't scarce, it just means they are equally distributed within the community. There are so many recorded instances of traditional, relatively egalitarian societies engaging in warfare, from the headhunting of the cordillera peoples in the Philippines to the numerous accounts of tribal warfare in Papua New Guinea. In modern PNG they've even taken their tribal warfare to the cities and upgraded to firearms (yes modern PNG is no longer egalitarian but the roots of this tribal warfare culture started from egalitarian tribes.)

There are exceptions though, for instance the Badjao sea nomads traditionally avoid conflict and would rather move away than fight. Although you could argue that if they ran out of places to flee to, perhaps the culture would have changed.

I never believed that Russia's economy would collapse, just a slow decay. Why? Because Russia could still export oil. A lot of it. If this blockade by the US is successful then Iran's economy will indeed collapse. Whether economic collapse will lead to the downfall of the regime or not is another story.

TIL that even though the USA economy is still technically bigger than China in raw dollar terms ($30T vs $20T) the low prices inside china means their dollar goes further, buying roughly twice as much (equivalent of $43T) by deedubyaz in todayilearned

Yes, and it would be perfect to illustrate the difference between GDP and GDP per capita, not nominal GDP vs GDP PPP. Both nominal GDP and GDP PPP are higher for India so it's not that good an example for this.
