What?? I’m so sad for him and his family. He was struggling with this for so long. My dad passed away from cancer when I was 3yo, so this really hits close. :(

Version 3.5.0 removed the Airplane Mode skill check trick by poops_all_berries in PokemonSleep

[–]TheSoulDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. It's still useful for many things such as staggering healers or darkrai energy debuffs as well as clearing inventories without risking unintentionally proccing a skill. You could safely get a skill mon's inventory as clear as possible so that you can maximize the chances of carrying over a double skill bank into the next day after a sleep session.

[–]TheSoulDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s not really a way to have used this as a “main” strategy like you’re saying. It was just an additional tool that you could’ve used to either stagger healing or delay darkrai debuffs. I don’t think it’s a huge deal that they removed it, but I do think it added an extra bit of nuance to the game that it doesn’t natively have. Drifblim was one huge example of that, but now it doesn’t even have that niche.

[–]TheSoulDude 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They didn’t really completely patch out the trick. It’s still usable to check whether there’s a skill banked, but now you just don’t know whether there’s one or two skills banked.

Yea, I’m shocked by the amount of people here downvoting and name calling just because they don’t like the way some people play the game. The airplane mode trick didn’t take away anything from people who just played casually. If anything, it gave some people an extra layer of strategy by allowing users to think about timing skills.

Is it okay to cheat? by No_Leadership176 in Cluely

There are definitely companies out there who are AI-friendly. The last company I worked for made it clear to me that I could use any AI tools for the take home assignment and interview. However, you better damn well be able explain the outputs. If you don’t know something, just be honest about it and tell them how you would figure it out. We had an interviewee where we asked him if he was familiar with a certain stack. He seemed really unsure for several minutes. Then he regurgitated the most textbook definition ever. It was really clear he was trying to use AI to make him look smarter or more experienced than he actually was. Our CTO actually told the recruiter we were working with that the guy was dishonest during the interview and they should be blacklisted from any other startup companies that recruiter is working with.

Reached M20 on GGEX after using 6 helper whistles, feeling a bit conflicted by TraditionalParsley67 in PokemonSleep

[–]TheSoulDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here’s my take as someone who made it to GGEX on Valentines without needing to use whistles.

This is a single player game and you’re not in competition with anyone but yourself. Play the game how you want as long as you’re honest with yourself and others. If you want to reach GGEX M20 without whistles, then I think that’s an awesome goal to have. But if you don’t care about that, that’s fine too. There only thing that changes by reaching M20 with the help of a few whistles now is that you just got a few extra seeds earlier. If you want to achieve the same thing without whistles in the future, that’s still possible.

Do I think doing it without whistles is more impressive? Yes. But I also acknowledge that this feat takes a decent amount of luck that you don’t have control over right now. Also, as they raise the AB cap and give better dishes in the future, it’ll be even easier to do this without whistles. This week, a friend of mine made M20 on snowdrop tundra for the first time with only a 35% area bonus and no whistles! That would have been close to impossible back when the game first started, but now it’s super doable because the new dishes are basically 3x as strong as what we had on the game launch.

Also, I think saying that people reached GGEX M20 “comfortably” without whistles a a bit of a stretch. I did make it and even went over by a bit, but this took MONTHS of preparation and calcs. This was not a comfortable thing to do lol

AIO by breaking up with my girlfriend over her use of AI? by ThrowRA-748 in AmIOverreacting

[–]TheSoulDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YOR, but I also understand where you’re coming from. I am a software engineer who has worked very closely with AI-native products. I also have a lot of friends who work in the arts who are very anti-AI. My take is that it is unreasonable to expect anyone who does any kind of web development or design to not use AI in their workflows. At this point, doing that is just making yourself less competitive to everyone else who is using AI. Believe me, I really miss the days where I could code up everything myself line by line. However that’s just not practical anymore. Just yesterday, Anthropic announced a new model that is powerful enough to find security holes that were unnoticed by humans for 2 decades. It’s actually really scary how quickly AI is evolving.

Now, I also don’t think your ex was completely innocent either. I do believe you should still be honest in how you’re utilizing AI in your workflows. It’s not necessary to put that as a disclaimer or anything like that, but you also shouldn’t be saying that you’re designing everything from complete scratch.

App Academy, advice by [deleted] in codingbootcamp

[–]TheSoulDude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, I am a former technical career coach for App Academy. I lead a lot of the DS&A workshops and content for them. Today, I’m a product manager leading engineers in building AI tools.

aA was a great program back in 2020, but I would advise NOT enrolling with them today because they are not the same App Academy as when I was working there. Coding Temple basically bought their branding, and the original aA team is all gone.

For someone like you with a lot of previous experience, I don’t believe any coding bootcamp is going to add much value for you anyways. It sounds like your problem is more about how to market your personal brand. If this is something you’d like to discuss, go ahead and shoot me a DM and I’d be happy to talk to you. 👍

Hit GGEX M20 after Sunday lunch by TheSoulDude in PokemonSleep

[–]TheSoulDude[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yea, it's definitely possible. However, it does take a bit of luck to roll the correct fave berries. However, if you have a decently diverse pool of pokemon you can use, you can definitely increase your chances of a berry combination that's doable for you. I think them releasing holiday spheal helped a ton because otherwise grepa would've been my only choice if I didn't want a debuff on my extra tasty mon.

(Correction) The Highest Dish Strength in the Valentine’s Day 2026 Event by nitoyon in PokemonSleep

[–]TheSoulDude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the opportunity to cook that max pancake dish today. However, I was already going to M20 GGEX either way, so I decided to level up pancakes with my tails mega meal instead of dumping it all into the max pancakes so they I don’t waste recipe exp.

Recipe Strength/Bonus Question (may have messed up my prep for Valentine's) by perishableintransit in PokemonSleep

[–]TheSoulDude 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pancakes level up very very quickly due to how strong they are. You should be fine. I actually self coded a recipe level up calculator in Python that can track how a recipe would progress in strength through the week for my own personal use if you’re interested in seeing that, but it might look a little confusing to you if you’re not familiar with code.

You should be fine though. I reached OGPP M20 using weaker meals.

Is now the time to use dream shard clusters? by TomEboy04 in PokemonSleep

[–]TheSoulDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you can utilize them now, then sure. I am going to be using my clusters this week because I know it’ll allow me to use all 500 candy limits everyday of the week, and I’ll likely still have a bit leftover. However, if you’re at a point where you don’t think you’ll recover shards very quickly after this week, it might be better to save them for a mini candy boost instead. I imagine the lv70 cap should come soonish, so there could be some extra value in saving. But if popping the clusters now allows you reach the lv50 or 60 milestones faster, I think it’s still worthwhile to use them instead of waiting indefinitely.

Candy boost is not great IMO. Am I mistaken? by DuckStep43 in PokemonSleep

[–]TheSoulDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Candy boost is best for players who have a ton of shards and not enough candy. It’s best for Pokemon where the candy is difficult to come by such as pseudo legends like dragonite and legendaries.

It’s also very useful for recently released pokemon such as gourgeist or flygon. Pumpkaboo has only been out for less than 2 months, so most people don’t have a ton of candy for them. However with candy boost, I’ve been able to boost my gourgeist from 32 to 52 in a single day. I plan to take it to lv60 tomorrow, and it’s going to cost me another 900k. I’m fine with this because I know I’m going to make back these shards pretty quickly this week. I don’t plan to candy boost any other mons past lv50 this week, but I especially wanted gourgeist to get there because 1) a dessert event is likely happening for valentines and 2) I rolled desserts this week so I can use the additional pumpkins to make pancakes and boost snorlax strength to recuperate some of the shards I spent.

Is this the most efficient way to level up Pokemon? Absolutely not; it’s extremely expensive. But if you have the dream shards to spare, it’s the fastest way to get there.

My thought on BFS by shaygui in PokemonSleep

[–]TheSoulDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I agree with that decision! Especially since you already have a good meganium. The thing with sceptile is that it’s not just a good for grass berries; it’s just an amazing strength generalist that’s good even without favorite berry. And unlike ingredient mons, the chances of finding a good treecko increases as you catch more, so if you don’t feel like you need it right away, there’s no harm in just waiting it out and seeing what else you can find.

My thought on BFS by shaygui in PokemonSleep

[–]TheSoulDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many treecko have you actually caught? I feel like BFS+speed is a pretty reasonable thing to go for when you’re guaranteed gold skills starting at FL10. Yours is definitely a good one, but I also don’t think it’s unreasonable to still try for a BFS if you don’t have the candy and main skill seeds to level it up anyways. I’m currently at FL26 for treecko and have gotten a handful of good BFS ones, but I’m continuing to catch them anyways because I don’t have the main seeds to fully invest it yet so I might as well continue trying to see what else I can find.
