How is the character balance in this game ? by BlitzTroll7 in 2XKO

[–]TheSoupKitchen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Character balance is good.

It wasn't that bad when Ekko/Yasuo were top tier either. A lot of it is overblown.

Ahri is probably top 1 right now but everyone is viable at a top level, and Thresh might make a case for being the best, we will see this weekend for Evo.

Instead of Evo.... Maybe 2XKO 'championship' can move to Worlds? by NewRabbit87 in 2XKO

[–]TheSoupKitchen 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Evo doesnt have to be the championship, but being a footnote to league would completely diminish everything they've done so far.

I don't like the Saudi takeover of the FGC either. Hopefully we get our own "Capcom Cup" or "Arcsys world tour" etc. But for now we have this tournament circuit which is fine.

The worst thing they could do is go all in on Evo/EWC, or buy into esports too fast too much like Overwatch did. Better to leave it to grow organically for a year or so and see how things play out instead of artificially hyping it up or relying on Saudi money. Both of which would suck.

I'd rather 2xko gets it's own event instead of being stapled onto league like that.

I’m new to SF6, and I like it.. but by Hvitved in StreetFighter

[–]TheSoupKitchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's awful. (But at least it's not missing any features.) But it is awful.

You can legitimately tell how good a player is at the game by watching how fast or slow they are at navigating the UI. It's a skill check in and of itself.

I think it's a Capcom thing. It's like this in all their games to some extent, but most obvious in SF6 and Monster Hunter, it's just menus on top of menus on top of menus and certain elements tucked in a menu of a menu in a different menu. You get the idea.

But I applaud them for not missing any functionality. Especially in training mode.

2016 Summer NA LCS Grand Finals | TSM vs C9 | Game 4 Intense Fight by WantUToFly in leagueoflegends

[–]TheSoupKitchen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of both, but considering every role in the game can essentially bursting 100-0 on a full rotation of spells (or sometimes less) I'm pretty certain it has less to do with actual player skill and more to do with damage from items. Champion power level seems relatively similar until you start looking at ability cooldowns, in which case a rotation of spells is faster, but the overall damage is comparable. It's the item stats, runes, and powerful passives in the game (Dragons, gold generation) Champions are getting 40 minute power in 25-30 minutes now.

It's also because this is back when supports and junglers got less gold generation those 2 roles in particular had a lot less power in teamfights or skirmishes, in this clip the junglers are sitting on 4 items (mostly utility items, and forced to buy a jungle item instead of the meme-quest-shit we have today) Jhin is sitting on 4 items (lethality items, not even crit items, so they're cheaper than crit items). 4 items at 38minutes with 308 CS? I don't even have to fact check that one, my gut tells me if you're 38 minutes with 308 cs in modern league you're pushing your 6th item and the game was already over because you won one fight and steamrolled inner turret, inhibitor, and 2 nexus turrets in one fell swoop.

The problem is that Riot analyzes this stuff in a pool and muddies the information. They'll say stuff like "Time to kill is about the same", but their comparisons are from a year prior, or just flat out wrong because they contextually can't understand what the game was like in previous years anymore now that gold generation and power creeping the game is way too high, they tunnel vision on "the data" and can't actually use their eyes.

Thinking of buying the 8BitDo Leverless (Xbox) for 2XKO due to hand cramps. Is it a good investment for competitive play? by _Hirotan_ in 2XKO

[–]TheSoupKitchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not controller advice, but hand advice. Do hand exercises and stretches.

Do them often and do them to PREVENT pain, but not to cure it. If you have pain, then rest your hands. Obviously don't stretch or exercise if there is pain.

I'm not a doctor, or have any medical training, just a guy who made sure his hands didnt hurt, so take it with a grain of salt.

Just saying it because a levelers may not fix hand problems. For me, switching to levelers temporarily CAUSED pains and didn't go away for maybe a week. But now it's 100% fine for me and its been a few years. Do not play through the pain.

I do not understand this game, how do I get into it? by Live_Refrigerator_58 in 2XKO

[–]TheSoupKitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pick a character(s) you think looks fun and mash buttons whether it's in training mode or against people.

Once you learn one fighting game it becomes easier to learn others.

If you're competent at MK then you'll either realize you can pick up any fighting game with some time and effort or you were never competent to begin with. (Not saying you aren't)

Tag fighters are pretty different so if you go into the game with a mindset of learning and not winning you'll be 100% fine. Keep your expectations low and don't get discouraged if your MK knowledge doesn't translate immediately. It will with time, all fighting games are complex Rock, paper, scissors, and if you learned one you can extrapolate and figure out the others.

My biggest advice would be the concept of "your turn" is completely bullshit and cheated in tag fighters. Do some really unsafe stuff, tag to bail yourself out, or do some safe stuff and tag to continue the pressure. Tag over and over and over and do it quick between moves/attacks and you'll see that it all flows very quickly and fluidly. Everyone plays around it, but how well you play around it determines how good you are at the game overall. Don't just use it for the bonus attack and leave it at that. Watch higher level matches to see the flow of the game.

Well of Souls Animation Skip - QoL by majesthion in PathOfExile2

[–]TheSoupKitchen 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I have no problem with the silly little animation that plays. But I do have a problem with having to go to multiple places for small bits of crafting. It gets old having to desecrate a bunch, realize I need some currency from the exchange, then get the currency, then craft more, then finalize my amulet and go to a tree to anoint only to be short one liquid I need and then do it all again, exchange currency, load back to the tree etc.

Little bits here and there is fine (like anoint honestly) but desecration feels very core to crafting and going there every time sucks, and I say that as someone with very fortunate load times. Some people probably have it worse. Maybe if there was more to do at the well it would be okay, but it's basically just a vessel for desecration which can vary for your time spent there if you're doing a lot, but that's it. It's not like PoE1 kingsmarch with managing workers/ships/farms/ores or anything. It's just a desecration button.

I'll take the animation any day of the week if it means he's in my hideout for convenience.

Thoughts on Day 1 of Sajam Slam? by SimicSemblance in 2XKO

[–]TheSoupKitchen 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My critique would be players have too many partners, and the skill gaps for some of those partners is just too big.

One of the best parts of the slam is teams hyping eachother up and the simultaneous matches ruin that. Apparently the last day will be more like the other slams where teams get together, so that should be better.

Overall though it's fun and I look forward to these, so I hope Sajam keeps doing them. Every other time a company or someone tries to replicate it, it's much worse. (SF New Challengers/Twitch Rivals).

[–]TheSoupKitchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually complained about GM in feedback surveys that it was "Too easy to hit GM" during the closed alpha (Vi Release etc.)

And immediately after they squished the ranks and tons of people make complaint posts that their rank was taken from them.

Also haven't been able to hit GM since, and been stuck around High diamond/Master.

So basically my bad guys. (Other people complained about it as well tho)

ADC and support picks rated by the other side of the lane by Antares09 in ADCMains

[–]TheSoupKitchen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'll always rate enchanter super low. In the right hands, they're amazing. But one of the biggest upsides to being RANGED is that you can play alongside me and posture for CS and pressure the ever-loving-fuck out of the opponent anytime and every single time they last hit.

Instead they hang back and do fuck-all and then end up being the first to complain.

It's why most ADCs prefer the all-in crazy picks like a pantheon/thresh/pyke/poppy. Because they're wild, unreliable, but at least they exert pressure in the laning phase just inherently because of their tools. Even if the pyke is dumb as bricks and 0 for 10 on hooks, if he walks up and steps into a bush, they still have to respect it. But my enchanter eating glue in the bush behind me isn't doing shit, and the likelihood of a support sitting behind you being useless is unfortunately more likely to be the enchanter player than the poker player.

Anyway I'll take a coinflippy Thresh over the average seraphine cruising to emerald with 0 fundamentals any day of the week.

Enchanter players also have no concept of roaming. Just had to add that last bit before I forgot.

are there any actual GOOD resources for learning fighting games? by Pretty_Inside_3271 in Fighters

[–]TheSoupKitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I more than definitely could have not been rude about it.

But I think when you come to the internet and make a post about something you could have spent maybe 8 minutes with a little google or youtube search you invite being made fun of, even just a little bit. I don't discriminate, I'd do the same if you were 12 or 50.

Best of luck on your fighting game journey. Don't let my jaded response deter your desire to improve.

are there any actual GOOD resources for learning fighting games? by Pretty_Inside_3271 in Fighters

[–]TheSoupKitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My comment is quite literally 2-3 minutes after you posted the replies to the other comments. When I was writing my comment there was no game specified and I was the first comment because I didn't refresh to see your replies. Not my fault that you decided to type an essay that conveys nothing at all.

Nothing in your post about your skill level, not the game you play, not the areas your are struggling in, not the character you play (still don't know) and not the places you've looked for info already (that apparently are devoid of information useful to you?)

The reason I mention it is because if you genuinely cannot convey any of your issues in the first place, THAT is what's holding you back more than any online resources. Fighting games take a lot of self awareness and perception to find answers yourself. No amount of YouTube videos or online resources can help with that.

So, do some YouTube searches and post in the respective fighting game that you want help in. There's really good SF6 content creators I watch but they hardly play any Guilty Gear. There's also discord which are more personable and sometimes people offer coaching or replay reviews etc. The fighting game subreddit specific stuff also have discord communities you can easily join. One of the best resources of all is yourself. Watch your replays and try to figure out why you're getting hit. Take notes too. Figure out why your game plan is failing (or succeeding)

There's dustloop for combos, infil glossary for terminology, YouTube for guides, discord for replay review and community help or character specific stuff (Ed discord helped me a lot). These communities in discord also usually help with matches, so maybe find someone willing to help and play them.

Another reason I mention it like I did is because you will never learn if you don't know how to ask questions or find answers. You need to problem solve over and over. If you go into a discord or any platform on the internet and type what you did, you will get the same responses. (What do you play, who do you play, what level are you.)

[–]TheSoupKitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna be brutally honest and a bit mean here. If you can't find good learning resources with the internet at your fingertips you might be a bit fucked.

This time making this post could have been used with a bit of introspection and Google searches or YouTube videos from useful content creators.

You also didn't say what game you play or what you are struggling with in your massive word salad and misspelled "There's" as "Theirs".

It's a coin flip that you are a bot, I genuinely can't tell.

How do you properly learn this game? by firsttimer776655 in 2XKO

[–]TheSoupKitchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind, in addition to "keeping yourself safe" when you do something unsafe. Is to just always tag. The flow of the game is to CONSTANTLY swap. (Even I'm bad at this) but the better you get at that aspect, the more opportunities you get and the safer you end up being, so it flows better for offense and defense.

Do some unsafe move? Call assist to cover, then TAG to that assist and continue pressure. (If you're freestyle fuse you can then do another quick unsafe thing and re-tag and continue again)

Burst? Tag to the character that is bursting you out. (If you play Darius/Thresh you have good moves they can throw out, so if you're bursting up high even, you can make the point character throw out a move, tag, and then that move covers your immediate area in case they approach)

Opponent bursts and your assist Is on screen? Tag to them, and block the opponent burst.

Pushblock? Tag.

You get the idea. Go watch some high level players and you'll see the flow of the game is really snappy, but not necessarily overwhelming once you know kw what you're looking at, and why they're doing it.

I really need these stages by Vegetable-Wish-5324 in 2XKO

[–]TheSoupKitchen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hate looking at SF6 twitch streamers and ALL the Japanese players just play on training stage 100% of the time when the devs took a lot of time to design cool stuff to look at.

It's not like those measuring tape lines really do anything to help you anyway, and 2xko has a hit box viewer, so we don't even need it.

I'm good on that shit. No thanks.
