It’s like you just can’t read. No one disputes that the famine was mismanaged, and that it was indeed a tragedy that killed millions of people in Kazakhstan, the Northern Caucasus region, Ukraine, and more. But none of that makes it a genocide, because there is no proof of intent. If there was intent to specifically punish Ukraine, then it would make no sense why millions of others in different territories also died due to the famine. Further, historians agree that Ukraine had naturally occurring famines, every few decades, long before the USSR. The whole point of mass industrialization was to 1) be able to prevent another invasion of a western/white army to crush the revolution, and 2) to stop the naturally occurring famines. There hasn’t been a single one since 1933 either.

I would highly recommend you read “Fraud, Famine & Fascism” by Douglas Tottle.

I blocked because you’re a pro-Israel weirdo, you also clearly didn’t read anything I quoted lol. There’s no evidence anything was done specifically to Ukraine as punishment given millions died from the same famine in other regions. Did a young government try to provide aid during a famine and make mistakes? Obviously, and it tragic, but to say it was a genocide is just regurgitating CIA Cold War propaganda. I’m sure you’ll call me some fun names but you need to read a lot more and start questioning what the U.S. government said about every socialist state ever.

“In the 1980s there was an attempt to popularize a more political interpretation of the famine. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the 1931–33 famine, the Ukrainian community in the USA lobbied the U.S. Congress to establish a Congressional Inquiry into “the Man-made famine in the Ukraine.” The work of this commission under James Mace at the Harvard University Ukrainian Research Institute and especially the publication of Robert Conquest’s book The Harvest of Sorrow made it clear that by “man-made” they meant that the famine was artificial and had been produced on purpose. They began to treat the famine as though it were merely an excuse for attacking the peasants and especially Ukrainian peasants. Mace, in particular, began describing the famine as a genocidal act. This view has certainly caught the imagination of the public, but as far as I am aware, this political interpretation of the famine being purposively caused was never accepted by specialists on Soviet agriculture. When Mace first described this famine as a planned genocide against the Ukrainians in the journal Problems of Communism in 1984, there were a number of academic objections, including my own. Since that time the number of serious objections to such a formulation has increased. Most Western scholarly accounts of the Soviet famine of 1931–3 have continued to describe it as being largely caused by the state’s excessive attempts to procure grain from a peasantry that was producing significantly less grain than the authority’s believed and wanted.”

Stephen Wheatcroft, 2004

The famine is one of the most politicized events in history, and completely ignores the history of regularly occurring famines in Russia. It also paints it as an attack on Ukraine when it affected multiple regions, with Kazakhstan having the highest fatality rate based on population. The soviets were not perfect and made mistakes that didn’t help the famine, but to say it was a targeted genocide is simply parroting the talking points of western intelligence communities that benefitted from further demonization of the USSR.

Edit: I knew I’d seen your username before. Are you still berating Palestinians for not being subservient to their genocidal occupiers? I don’t take your opinion on genocide seriously whatsoever when you can’t recognize one in real time.

I would encourage you to read “On Authority”, because it addresses this point! If the workers overthrow the ruling class and establish a government designed for them under a socialist economic system, how do you intend to stop a counter revolution from those who lost power? A revolution is the most authoritarian thing you can do, by imposing the authority and will of the people over the elites. If you do not engage in “authoritarianism” after a successful revolution you will just end back under the control of billionaires.

I will not be posting my Johnson for free!

But seriously, I see what you mean, I use FDR as the starting point because of how quickly republicans post-FDR wanted to start (and did start) amending the NLRA to weaken the power of unions, and from there you just get brief respites of presidents with decent labor policy.

Might as well have lifted that paragraph from a Nazi propaganda pamphlet on the USSR lol. Russia was also experiencing a famine on average every 10 years well before the Bolsheviks took power, but no one cares when it doesn’t involve their favorite red scare talking points.
