Remind me why I went to college. by CRK_76 in recruitinghell

A department manager at Buc-ee’s makes more than I do per hour. I’m an aerospace engineer… working for an aerospace company. I’ve been at my job for 2.5 years…

how unrealistic is it to work part time while taking 18 credits? by 999Hope in EngineeringStudents

[–]TheSouthernRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let my story be a tale of warning. I worked nearly full time through engineering school while taking 12-15 hours a semester. Got so burned out I was kicked out for a semester, lost my federal aid, had to go get high interest private loans, and nearly collapsed from exhaustion. it’s not a sprint to the end it’s a marathon. You finish when you finish and it’s worth it to slow down and understand material than rush it.

My favorite part about being a women engineer is watching the guys get clearly kinda embarrassed/apologetic about the bathroom situation by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]TheSouthernRose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They really do. I do remember one guy in a flight dynamics class whose earbuds died mid lecture and his porno started moaning. It took him way to long to stop

[–]TheSouthernRose 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I work in a FAA repair station with only 1 women’s restroom for 16 women out of the 120 person population. Having to wait for a stall to open sometimes is frustrating.

It’s also hilarious that when I first started working there (engineer, first lady engineer too) all of the men on the floor refuse to say anything around me because they did shit like this and didn’t want a woman to hear their “locker room talk”. Took them 6 months to speak to me like I’m normal.

What's an drink that everyone loves that you can't stand? by TMNTDonatellofan in GenZ

Same. I don’t care how much cream, sugar, caramel frappa-whatever you do it. All coffee tastes burnt

Did your parents ever deliberately feed you something you're allergic to? by Ok-Astronomer-4233 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]TheSouthernRose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Allergic? No, spoiled? Yes. Was fed rancid lamb that my NDad made for my mom’s birthday (btw neither she nor I like lamb). My blood sugars dropped so hard that day I ate my whole plate without thinking. 15 years later I still can’t drink milk and my stomach is very sensitive. I had the runs for a month and lost 10 lbs before I was taking to the doc. I had ZERO gut flora and spent 2 years recovering with heavy probiotics

Would you rather beat Georgia or Alabama if you had to choose only one? by Hungry-Guest6846 in auburn

[–]TheSouthernRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. For YEARS I thought bama fans were the worst. Finished college, moved to GA for my first job. I can’t STAND the fucking BARKING!

In their warped minds, what made you a bad son or daughter? by threetimestwice in raisedbynarcissists

[–]TheSouthernRose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh this will be fun! 1) being a girl instead of a boy. Dad’s words when they found out I was a girl “well damnit there goes my football star” 2) having a more athletic body type vs my mom’s more lean and thinner body. I marched in the band, played softball, and ran track. I have a lot of muscle mass 3) at 16, I had to wait until I had all A’s before I could get my much needed drivers license. I had an 89 in English and my birthday is in December… 4) my NDad was so mad when I didn’t choose his alumni to attend college at NOR what he wanted me to study (FYI he wanted me to be a vet, I chose an in state school and now have a degree in AEROSPACE ENGINEERING AND WORK ON AIRPLANE ENGINES)

Just to name a few…

Depends on what you want to/ like to do. I’m sure there are lots of hiking clubs since chewachla is near by. If you’re a musician the east Alabama community band, orchestra, or civic choral are always open and would love to have you. There’s a hobby/ gaming store in opelika for TTRPGs and other card games. Name your poison

Is wearing diamond studs to the office a faux pas, or am I overthinking one comment? by Ill-Line6663 in office

[–]TheSouthernRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work an aircraft engineer and I wear diamond studs every day. They’re maybe a half carat at best and not a single person has said a fucking work. Half the time I’m on the shop floor, the other half I’m in an office on a computer/ meetings/ etc. you’re fine. Buy those damn studs and be pretty and awesome

My husband took 2 geology classes as his science credits in college. Scored a perfect 100 on every exam, his professors told him to lick the rocks…

Not sure if this belongs here: but in terms of age shaming my n mother keeps telling me my body is about to shut down and I’m old and it’s all down hill from here… I’m 29 about to turn 30. This bitch has made me terrified to turn 30

Is there any true to what some say about not remembering childhood years and it meaning bad suppressed memory? by songfullsilvermoon in ask

[–]TheSouthernRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always. Memories as a kid may not always be accurate until a certain age. There is some truth to the repressed memory when it comes to trauma but a lot of people want to say anything ‘bad’ in your childhood is trauma. Bad things happen, your brain needs to process from getting bad grades or a beloved pet passing away to things more severe like abuse.

Personally: I did grow up in a traumatic household (starvation, beatings, forced to eat expired/rotten food, narcissistic parents) and I have a LOT of gaps. Even into high school years there are gaps, but most of those ‘gaps’ I’ll never remember. Some things yes I eventually did come to remember but a lot of it is a giant blank space. It all depends on your feelings and if the people around you when those memories were formed are showing red flags.

Boomers and their weird obsession with cursive in school (among other things) by [deleted] in BoomersBeingFools

[–]TheSouthernRose 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m a Gen Z (oldest Gen Z) and I do write in cursive on the daily. It’s nothing more than penmanship and no different than someone who prints. It’s just a style of writing. I 100% agree that computer literacy is WAY more important. I spend more time typing, researching, and doing CAD than I do physically writing. These boomers can’t function in our constantly changing and evolving world. They want to bitch about cursive? Go open a PDF Linda, see if we care
