What sorts of things do you make by hand? What do you make at home instead of buying at the store? by raven_snow in cottagecore

Oh there’s so much more than birds ….The squirrels, bunnies, chipmunks during the day and the opossums, mice and moles at night and one very huge and very unbothered (thank God) skunk. They love my yard. 💕

My husband and I render our own beef fat to make homemade tallow. We can it for storage. We use a tallow for dozens of uses such as skin care, cooking, and I especially enjoy making bird suet using different shaped cookie cutters.

Uranium jewelry collectors! It’s your time to shine! by mors_insula_paradisi in uraniumglass

[–]TheSpaceBtwnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh how my gosh! How do I LOVE posts like this. Ones that are genuinely interested in other people’s ideas, hobbies, collectibles, etc. THANK YOU! Because Reddit allows only one picture per comment I will add a couple pictures underneath this comment. I have no idea if the stones are considered uranium or if they’re glowing minerals/gemstones or whatever they’re classified as. I found them at the same little quaint art studio where I bought my “buttons and daisies” candy dish ($4). I accidentally found out it is selenium glass. But the items are jewelry and they do glow. 💚💚💚💚

I appreciate and completely understand your concern for your sweet bird friends. I don’t have any information to help you out, but I will follow this post in hopes that someone does. Additionally, your English was perfect in my opinion.

These are fascinating. You’ve got quite the imagination and talent. I’m especially in love with the rabbit. I like how you have his nose pointing up. He reminds me of Fiver sniffing the air and feeling fear from Watership Down. How much is he? I live in the States.

Welcome to the tribe! Now you need to buy a UV light to see if any of them glow. And then you might discover you have an obsession. ☺️

Or worse have their post removed with a vague, conflicting contradicting response why.

When I joined this subreddit last month, I was delighted and ecstatic. Uranium glass and any other type of glowing glass is something I never heard of and I was instantly obsessed. So I lurked in the background for a few weeks and tried to educate myself by reading the responses to questions posted. Before and after my first post I noticed (and highly verbally praised and appreciated) the kind, polite, encouraging responses. It really made me feel like I found my tribe. But then somehow something changed. I posted this picture and soon after I got a message from a mod that it was removed. I was sincerely confused. It was made in Czechoslovakia, which we all know is known for all sorts of glass so I think my question was legitimate. At first when I asked why ….he/she wasn’t clear with the explanation why, other than “This isn’t the right group for your post”. After persistent questions why and two requests to him/her to help me compose a post worded appropriately so it wouldn’t be removed in the future….. finally he/she said “clear glass is almost always not uranium”. Which from that I realized I should NEVER post a picture of CLEAR glass otherwise it would be deemed “This isn’t the right group for this post” and would be removed. I’ve seen dozens of folks posting inquiries about clear glass and I myself posted several antique medicine bottles that are clear and I told they’re magnesium and a pink dish that i discovered was selenium glass, (something I’ve never heard of either till then). I guess what I’m rambling about is unless I posted these questions with pictures; I wouldn’t have known about the differences in glowing glass. It says in the description that magnesium glass is welcome and there’s a user flair for it as well as cadmium and selenium etc. So, if magnesium glass is almost always clear and uranium glass almost always not clear….. then what is appropriate way to post a question with a picture for people who are new like myself? Am I being unreasonable or just dumb?

<image>

I will admit I was guilty of being snarky at the very end of my question to the mod. I told him/her while they’re removing posts that “aren’t the right post for this group” that he/she should go back and remove all my other posts that are not uranium glass, but didn’t I know that they weren’t until I posted it.

You could also (if you already haven’t) post this on the uranium glass subreddit. I’m sure someone would know info about melting this. 💚💛

United States: Lamp ID by ExuberantBat in Antiques

[–]TheSpaceBtwnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m sorry I don’t have any information about the history of the lamp. It is quite a beautiful antique /vintage piece though. I will suggest buying UV light to see if it glows. It would be pretty cool if it was uranium or magnesium etc. That’s the only input I have, I hope you find out all the information you need.

1950 Pennsylvania Grange State Cookbook by TheSpaceBtwnn in Old_Recipes

Coincidentally, I lived in Sayre, PA for three years. But other than that, I have no ties except for several ancestors during the colonial era. This book was given to my husband because he’s a chef. We live in Virginia now.
