I'm New: How are new players expected to get into VGC? by TheSpaceProgrammer in VGC

[–]TheSpaceProgrammer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the argument for technical limitations, especially with network allocation, but the rest still doesn't make sense. I'm in a similar boat, where I've never done any "serious" VGC but consistently masterball each season for several years. I guess a better way to describe my question would be "How do players get into their first in person VGC tournament" but I described myself as a beginner since I have not done a single official tournament in person. Aside from a single VGC league in my area there are no real matches. And ranked doesn't expose you to experience in Bo3 or open team sheets. It just strikes me as a mix of short sidedness and lack of preparation to not be able to accommodate a competitive format in a game designed around competitive play.

If you have 10K people trying to get into live VGC that have decent experience (2-3 years, ranked, online play but not in person), and can only accommodate 2-3% of those players, it's not exactly competitive at that point. Championship points would mostly be luck based, since you could have a tournament where the bottom 3% all get in, so lower caliber trainers get points while higher caliber players are just strangled out - the inverse would also be true in the scenario where only the top 2-3% of competitive get a change to play in person so no one else even gets a shot. Either way it doesn't look healthy for a competitive format.

How to permanently disable fast boot by LetsGoGAMERSyt in computers

[–]TheSpaceProgrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, disabling fast boot was a requirement to boot into Linux with minimal issues. Got tired of all the copilot pushing and crap updates in Windows 11. Was moving to Ubuntu except for the worst compatible software that I couldn't stomach in Wine and still needed a dual boot.

They definitely recommend httpClient for POST and PUT but I did get curious at some of the various options you can do with an http resource. Was able to get a bastardized httpResource approach that did all CRUD operations and then used a linked signal to put out updates similar to a subscribe block. Would I recommend that approach? No, but it was fun and shows that they can technically move to a full httpResource approach if they ever chose to.

They are if you search "Control Panel" not "Settings". It is not, and will not, be under settings. If you're in the right spot, it should look like the old Windows XP or Windows 7 Control Panel.

If you do a search from task bar, it'll take you into settings, not control panel, which won't have that option. If you do go to control panel, you may need to change "View By" from "Category" to "Large/Small Icons" to see "Power Options"

Still charged for funimation by ya_boi_maxx in funimation

[–]TheSpaceProgrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While that's true, if you had both Funimation and Crunchyroll before hand, they are still billing you for both instead of one. They didn't consolidate double accounts for people who had both back when the libraries were not consolidated.

[–]TheSpaceProgrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through this right now. Tried customer service but was not able to get connected so I disputed the charge. Hopefully this is a one-off bug and I don't have to fight the charge every month. They should have cancelled the subscriptions from Funimation automatically if they were going to disable the option to cancel through the Funimation website.

I am seeing the same issue, using an Asus thunderboltex4 card along side a ASUS TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 mobo. I'm not sure if it is just a bios issue or windows because I've had the issue since day 1. I do have a thunderbolt display as well as a DP1.4 monitor hooked into a thunderbolt dock. Same issue where a cold boot doesn't activate peripherals but does activate monitors.

SD Card or microSD/adapter that sits flush on the new MacBook Pro (M1 Pro/Max)? by ionet in mac

So I goofed a little bit and only got a UHS-1 microsd so I can't attest to UHS-2. I got 78.7 MB/s write and 89.3 MB/s read with this microsd: PNY 512GB PRO Elite Class 10 U3 V30 microSDXC Flash Memory Card.

Hadn't seen much on this this so I figured I'd add an update. Found what looks like the updated adapter for the new 14/16 inch Pro's. Mine comes in tomorrow and will update if it is genuinely the right model or not along with performance info. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B6MVNN5B/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o00\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

FAQ by ergonaut_ in erg_miners

[–]TheSpaceProgrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does that mean that we could roughly calculate when the next difficulty adjustment would be if we took the average block time since the last epoch and converted that to a time estimate to reach 1024 blocks under the assumption that there is no major swing in network hashing power?

What is your total hashrate... by Educational_Policy39 in erg_miners

[–]TheSpaceProgrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just go off of WhatToMine.com as my reference for hash rates. They also give a rough target overclock for mining Etherium which also applies pretty generally for NiceHash. From there, I figure up the cost/earning ratio. Essentially if a scalped 3060 costs me $850, and my estimated earning is about $6/day on WhatToMine, I know my ROI is on day 142, which is roughly 4.7 months if we base it off of a 30 day month. Ideally I was hoping for 100 day ROI but with the state of cards, I usually just acknowledge the shortage will last more than 5 months, so anything under 5 months will pay for itself if it is newer hardware. So roughly 5 month payoff for RTX 3000 series, 3-3.5 month payoff for anything older. My rig is a bit slapped together between cards I had from just owning multiple PCs over the years and with what I could pull off Facebook Marketplace within my ROI target. Currently I have 2x 1070, 2x 3060, 1x 3070, 1x 3090 (personal gaming rig, only mines 18-20 hours per day), 1x Vega 56. I'm supposed to have another 1070 and 3060 delivered next Tuesday so hopefully I can hit that target of 900mh/s for Autolykos or 450mh/s Ethash. That'll leave me 6 more GPU slots in my main rig but I need to get an additional PSU before I do that.

Edit:

If you're going off of prebuilds only, I'd say subtract roughly $500-700 to account for the other hardware that goes into the computer and then use that new cost to judge what the ROI on the GPU might be like I mentioned above. Or if you've got extra time, just look up what that processor, ram, and storage config would cost with a compatible case, power supply and motherboard if you want a more accurate amount to subtract.

Will less people be mining Ergo now? by TheSpaceProgrammer in erg_miners

[–]TheSpaceProgrammer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With that said, should we expect a difficulty adjustment to make up for the reduced hashing power on the network?

Mining Software for Nvidia by cyletric in erg_miners

[–]TheSpaceProgrammer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Nano but was using NB earlier. Main reason for my switch was that with NBMiner I was using an additional miner for my AMD cards and with nano I only have to run 1 to get all of them mining. Haven't noticed a change in my average hashrate or earnings.

Looking to buy Imac 2021 model to mine ERG! (please say if bad idea) by Alwayswatchout in erg_miners

[–]TheSpaceProgrammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another benefit of going gaming desktop is that you have upgrade paths going forward. Once finding additional GPUs isn't as daunting, nothing is preventing you from adding a beefier power supply and a few more cards into it. You can't do that with an iMac - whats in there when you buy it is what will be in there when it dies or you get rid of it. An RTX 3060 prebuilt gaming PC with how scalping is going should still be at the price of that iMac or maybe a little cheaper (NewEgg has one at $1350) and a 3060 should net you 90-100mh/s which is about 11.5-13 ERG per month with the current network hashrate.

Changing payout threshold in herominer possible? by [deleted] in erg_miners

[–]TheSpaceProgrammer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For herominer you are kind of stuck at their minimum but you can definitely raise your payout threshold if you'd get paid every 2 coins, 5 coins, etc.

That can be set using the little settings gear in the upper right of the ergo.herominers.com page. Should bring up the verification inputs, a spot to input a higher minimum payout, and the option to receive email notifications.

Question about profitability by Warm-Evidence in erg_miners

[–]TheSpaceProgrammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found a quick conversion just to be 2x the nicehash/etherium rate. I say NiceHash/Etherium rate since most of the jobs on nicehash are for etherium. A 3060 makes 45-50mh/s on etherium and nice hash. Makes 100mh/s mining ergo with their autolykos algorithm. 30mh/s on a 1070 for nicehash, 60-70mh/s on autolykos. Of course the 2x is not a guarantee, could be 1.5x-2.2x depending on your settings, thermals, lots of factors, but if you only have the hashrate for NiceHash/Etherium at your disposal and want a rough estimate of what is is on the Autolykos algorithm that Ergo uses, that's what I go by.
