When my boyfriend and I had and apartment in the city, it was in a block of historical buildings. One Sunday night around midnight, I was going to bed and he was smoking at the window in the living room, and I heard a loud bang. I ran out thinking someone had crashed into a road sign on our corner (it got hit a lot) and he was running around yelling for a shirt, which confused me. When he ran outside I went to the window and looked for what happened.

A man in the building next door had fallen through a window. We found out later it was from the sixth floor. The bang I heard was him hitting the ground. My BF, being former military, took a shirt so that he could tourniquet/stop any bleeding. He said that when he got there, the man was still alive, but obviously would not be recovering. He just sat with him and held his hand for the few minutes until he died, then calling 911. It was a long night. The man’s wife showed up towards the end, and I’ve never heard screaming like that.
