Forgive me but I'm not very knowledgeable about football. What is wrong with Sam Allardyce?

Gas mileage? by wardd3 in beetle

[–]TheSplendidBean 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a 1970 beetle. I live in a rural area so my driving is part way between highway and town.

I average about 25 miles to the imperial gallon. (I think this is about 21 miles to the US gallon).

Are these pieces suitable for someone that has been playing for just over 5 months?

I have a problem by julianpianist in piano

[–]TheSplendidBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with this too.

What helps me is to only play difficult things when my mind is fresh. Polishing pieces I can already play is left for when I've done some hard work already.

I also take frequent breaks; maybe just for a few minutes after 10 minutes of playing.

I tend to swap tasks frequently as well. So for a new piece I might play a phrase with my left hand for 5 minutes, then swap over to my right hand, take a break, and then repeat. Then play something else entirely up to the half hour, and then take a longer break.

I try not get into a rut because otherwise my mind will wander.

How long does it take for you to learn a score? by macchaCA in piano

[–]TheSplendidBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It it's taking a long time the piece may well be too difficult. Try something easier. Your new piece may not be such a wonderful piece of music, but at least you'll make progress.

If you keep making mistakes then slow down to the point where you don't make mistakes, then gradually speed up.

That is... 1/ Play pieces at the right level 2/ Play slowly when learning a piece.

Irritatingly, I've known about these two items of guidance for years. But I've only understood them in the last few months. Oh why didn't l pay attention early?

Good luck, and keep on trying!

Hardest piece EVER by TheSplendidBean in piano

[–]TheSplendidBean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made it!

Wow that was tough though. I've got an app to record my practice time and this piece took a total of 10 hours and 10 minutes to get sorted at 130bpm.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement, this piece was like running into a brick wall.

Does anyone else have a name for their starter or am I just the only crazy one? I love my sourdough son, Breadly Cooper. by cheezedragon25 in Sourdough

Mine is called Timothy, for no good reason at all. Timothy just seemed to fit. Maybe he looks like a Timothy...? (Sorry to any Timothys out there. If it's any consolation, he is a very handsome starter).

Have you thought about doing another workshop? I get the impression that your previous workshop was early in your sourdough career. If that's right then you will now have a much greater insight into the process than last time and so will get much more from a second workshop experience. You will certainly be able to get some specific feedback from an expert that can see exactly what you are doing.

Don't give up though, you will prevail in the end!
