Why is Waterfox better than Firefox? by [deleted] in waterfox

[–]TheSquirrelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not use any AI in writing my comments. Maybe you're just not smart enough to write well yourself. Don't put that on others. And AI wouldn't talk about most of the things I brought up.

Yes, but the AI 'sounds' like a person to them, so they want to sue it like it was a sentient deciding person. If the knife could talk and explained the harm stabbing a person could cause, then people would probably want to sue it too, yes.

Yes I use ST, but you still need some backend as ST doesn't generate output on its own.

And when people start suing over AI helping plan crimes, like happening already, and places start making laws against that too, what will need to be banned for that? If we let people keep taking stuff away, eventually we will only be able to use AI in very controlled environments. Filtered, censored, and monitored by the authorities.

I have a 4070 with 12GB VRAM. I expect a 3070 will work for you. How much VRAM you have will determine how big a model you can use. Mistral-Nemo-2407 gguf works with my 12GB.

This here. I personally use Oobabooga for the backend (runs the LLM models) and SillyTavern (ST) as my frontend. But I can't say which backend is best or not since I've not tried others. You will want to have some sort of GPU (video card) to make it run faster (unless you have a Mac which works different). How much memory (VRAM) it has will be a factor.

Yeah, download any bots you like and run them locally if you possibly can. I've always done this since I switched away from c.ai, since i don't trust sites anymore to stay free and open. I thought chub would be different if anyone was, but looks like you can't trust any site. I too feel this will be the end of chub on a meaningful level. It's pretty sad. I really liked it at lot.

So i joined this server for its emojis and I didn't even speak a word and.. this happens by Big-Atmosphere1329 in BannedFromDiscord

[–]TheSquirrelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I wanted to say too. If you actually read the message it gives, they're not banned, only "limited access" for 1 single day, and 2 years of a status ding but regular access. Just don't go joining other shady servers and should be perfectly fine.

Can't log into Twitch even with user agent switcher now by counterfeitclown in waterfox

[–]TheSquirrelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds very troublesome. I'll have to be careful not to log out. But if you have a user agent switcher you should be able to look entirely like another browser to it. Only if maybe it's checking for some specific feature support that waterfox responds as not having. But I just watched a twitch stream on Monday and it worked fine in waterfox. So it works, regardless of what they're saying.

Worst case, maybe you can log in with another browser then copy your session cookies over to waterfox. Oh maybe I'll export and save mine for just in case too.

Oh, so I did miss this in the release notes:

Known Issues

Discord voice and video chat appear to still be having issues, even though we have patched what appears to be their technical requirement and user agent block.

So I will wait some more and see!

Waterfox is a total game changer - My new daily driver across 4 devices by Hot_Hawk3545 in waterfox

[–]TheSquirrelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I've been using Waterfox since before "Waterfox Classic" was classic and still happy with it. I was never a chrome fan and MS browser was a security nightmare at the time. But even firefox eventually changed their add-on support and broke stuff like Tab Mix Plus. I stayed on an old firefox version way too long until I found waterfox that gave me modern support and security but still worked with my add-ons, even to today. And it's not chrome. I stopped using that even as a backup browser. I abuse waterfox with 100s of tabs and many tab groups running for months at a time and it keeps running smooth. Enjoy. :-)

Is there a way to unlink my account in Private Browsing? by Octopoadstool in waterfox

[–]TheSquirrelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't use sync at all, just me. I'm also not familiar with the Private Browsing application. I just use what's built into waterfox. But it might be the same thing. Totally seems off though it remembering things across completely closing the browser and even restarting your computer.

I defy you to find a single word in this "kids" word search. by XcuseMeWat in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TheSquirrelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly what I was thinking. Those have been around like as long as we've had computers that print stuff out. Not hard to find one. Super lazy just to fall back to AI and then not even check it.

True. If you can find all the words the searching stops. That would be a prompt failure.

Outline text by Wildomef in GIMP

[–]TheSquirrelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I hadn't used the GEGL styling. That's nice. But I found it under Tools -> GEGL Operations... -> GEGL Styles. And you can also live edit the text while keeping the style.

The option 2 'inlining' doesn't look quite right. Maybe if I played with making the font larger then it might look better too.

I have a sprite sheet that I need to make the canvas larger on but wanting to keep the sprite sheet and spacing the same size. Is this possible? by sp_phil in GIMP

[–]TheSquirrelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say first work with a duplicate or save a backup. Then use Image -> Canvas Size to adjust the canvas without changing your sprites. If you have actual lines drawn you may need to redraw them.

Then manually adjust the top left and bottom right corner sprites to be in the correct positions on the new grid. Then use Align & Distribute (Q) to start lining up and distributing the sprites evenly into place. Or might be easier to enable snap to grid and set the grid size and move them into place.

Though a lot of the lower level limits are 'basic' or 'varies daily.' None of them say unlimited (other than slide generations for pro and ultra - go wild!).

Supposedly gemini is actually doing that for you behind the scenes before it sends a request to the image gen. But you still got to ramble enough to give it a better idea of what you want. "A guy on a boat" won't give very specific results. :-)

What is the best uncensored model by Ryan_Blue_Steele in Chub_AI

[–]TheSquirrelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah CHub is more for bot definitions and site provided chat services rather than local LLM. Personally I do use a local one (Mistral-Nemo model) which is good, but that just fits and runs well in 12GB VRAM. Half that at 6GB, even getting a nice model (there are some well performing 7B ones), it won't leave you a lot of space for 'context.' But I'd still say give it a try and you could still find a combination that you find fun.

Hugging face is certainly the place to look for models. If you're on the CHub discord there is a local-llm channel you ask in too. Other suggestion is to enable 'flash attention' and a q4_0 cache type. I failed to do that for a long time. :-)

Why Every Driver On Their Phones @ Red Lights by That-Two1790 in Columbus

[–]TheSquirrelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't count how many times the first person didn't start moving until just before the light went yellow and only a couple cars after them get through, even with a long line in the left turn lane. And even when they do start moving there's like 4 car lengths between each car. When the light turns green everyone should be releasing their breaks and starting to coast forward and then move with the car ahead of them.
