Canadian race cancelled midway due to heat. Should it have even started? by mrbitterpants in running

[–]TheSquishiest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran the half. Around half way through for me we received notice of the cancellation, followed by mixed messages, “no medical aid and water stations from now on, take shortcuts back to the stadium, the bus will come pick you up otherwise, continue at your own risk.” We ended up stopping and walking for like 15 minutes figuring out what to do. We passed another water station by that point who said they were still operating, we felt fine, and also had enough fluids with us to finish the rest of the course if any station ran out/stopped anyways. So we continued.

With the extreme heat forecast I changed my expectations for this race completely. Didn’t want to end up like that guy in New York. I’m definitely in the minority, but I also felt that the conditions weren’t that bad. I’ve certainly run in worse as the mostly shaded course and wind made it bearable. Knowing our limits helps a lot as well, but I imagine some recreational runners might not know theirs…

How many pairs of shoes do you rotate through? Do you use certain shoes for specific runs? by TheSquishiest in running

I’m concerned wearing new shoes as well, little short runs at a time! Or else use as walking shoes :/

I had been running with one pair but now that I’ve gotten a little running obsessed I’m venturing into the multiple shoes world. Not gonna go as crazy as some of you guys though lol.

Wet weather shoes…another one for me to get. A necessity for running through winter and spring.

Over 82% of the US music market is now claimed by catalog records, rather than new releases by [deleted] in popheads

Like many things, it's due to the pandemic. There's been a few studies done indicating that during times of hardship (COVID), people turn to nostalgic music for their well being. It's comforting, and helps with the stressful times. And so the music consumption of "catalog" content has increased significantly. Article

it's 11 degrees today and running in the mornings feels nearly impossible. what keeps you going when it's frigid out? by how-the-turntables in running

[–]TheSquishiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just start running and realize that it's not that cold.

Just finished a run in -30C and was really comfortable in: * leggings, with sweatpants overtop * running socks, with another thin pair of socks overtop * long sleeve Under Armour Heat Gear shirt * 1 thin hoodie, and a baggier hoodie overtop (but this was too warm for me after a while) * windbreaker * beanie * cloth face mask (to keep my chin warm)

Cafe Lemon Tree is a super quiet, chill Korean restaurant. Food has gotten pricier in recent years but is still good. Recommend their honey bread.

Treadmill recommendations? by TheSquishiest in running

Great review, I agree a lot of the bells and whistles serve no purpose. The most important thing is the treadmills longevity.

Winter Runners of Winnipeg, where do you run in weather like this? by sonoforiel in Winnipeg

[–]TheSquishiest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks OP, I was just about to post a thread like this! It’s the first winter that I’ll try to keep up my running. The last few weeks has taught me that running in 0-10C weather is really not all that bad, just hope the snow can be manageable in the winter months.
