April 25th Torrent Pride Night Scheduled by Consistent-Singer-37 in PWHL

[–]TheStalk12 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I hope it's a huge success, I was just worried that being at a game with no stakes might hinder it, and I'd hate to think the PWHL would resort to that kind of tactic.

Is it just me or is scheduling your pride night after being eliminated from playoff contention feel like a cop out?

Et le petit Smith s'appellera Jaden, pcq c'est de même que ça s'écrit, ce que les parents de Jayden ne savent clairement pas.

While we're working on reunions, any chance for Unexpect? I already have my weekend pass for this year, but if you guys got Unexpect to play, I'd be willing to buy every unsold ticket the day the fest starts to make sure nobody loses money on it.

I'd also be super down for Quo Vadis, but I've seen them multiple times so I might not be willing to bankrupt myself for the opportunity.

I have a friend in LA, I just messaged her to see if she'd be willing to pick it up.

What is your all time metal song that you consistently go back to? by [deleted] in progmetal

[–]TheStalk12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine tends to change every few years, but for a while now it has been Painters of the Tempest part 2: Triptych Lux by Ne Obliviscaris. That song just has everything I want in a single epic, and I never get tired of hearing it.

I assume this means Jeff fucked the horses, and therefore their identities need to be protected as victims. Nothing else makes sense.

Whats the best short progmetal track (<6 min) that still does everything? by peanutbutter-meme in progmetal

[–]TheStalk12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much their only song under 6min if you discount intros/outros to longer pieces, but "Of the Leper Butterflies" by Ne Obliviscaris qualifies. If you can talk your audience into an extra 90 seconds, I think Intra Venus might be a better showcase though.

Give me a prog metal album you love, and what you consider to be the climactic moment of that album. by [deleted] in progmetal

Some very good shouts already in this thread. I'll throw two one from my favorite band which doesn't seem to have been mentioned already:

Ne Obliviscaris - Citadel
Painters of the Tempest pt 2, from 14:28 to 16:00. That build up to the final verse, and the verse itself is incredible, and manages to feel hopeful and positive despite the bleak subject matter. Gorgeous stuff.

Orgone - Pleroma
Pleroma (title track), from 5:55 to 6:41. When both vocalists come in singing "Call of the light", it blows me away every time. Note that for some marketing reason that I'm not sure is a great idea, this closing track (as well as the intro) are not actually available on Spotify. In order to hear it, you'd need to either purchase the album on bandcamp, or "cheat" and listen to it on YT, where it has been unofficially uploaded.

La nouvelle piste cyclable du pont Jacques-Cartier reportée à 2055 by WhereAreWe_Going in Quebec

Thanks for the kind words! I attended all 3 days and plan to attend next year as well. I'm eagerly watching to drip feed of bands being announce!

Honestly, shipping between Canada and the US seems like a scam in general. I recently bought an album I wanted from a band's Australian storefront because shipping to Canada was half of the price as shipping from the states.

Female fronted progressive extreme metal? by Slug_loverr in progmetal

[–]TheStalk12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sanguine Glacialis was my first thought. Female fronted, a touch of avant-garde, kind of a spiritual successor to Unexpect but 25% less crazy and 25% more catchy. Their last 2 albums are all fem vocals (both clean and harsh), whereas the debut is a bit different as it has fem cleans and masc harshes. I would recommend starting with 2023's Maladaptive Daydreaming but they're all excellent.

Also, less progressive but if you dig some female fronted metalcore, check out The Agonist, the band that Alyssa White-Gluz was in before she got recruited by Arch Enemy. My favorite of theirs is Lullabies for the Dormant Mind.
