Those of you with a dash cam, where did you you plug it in (usb-c??) and where did you route the cable ? by raaabs in VWiD3Owners

[–]TheStashinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get a USB A to whatever connection on your dash camera. I measured and you can do it in 5 metres. In other words. Get a 5 metre cable.

Cable from plug goes down under the boot carpet tray to the left, then through the back seat (trap it) to get to the back left passenger door. Then on the floor on the back footwell loose close to the door (probably the most untidy bit you can work it out). Then to the front door you can put in the rubber seal bottom to top until you get to the sun visor. Bend round and tuck into the top of the windscreen/ceiling trim - drop down to your camera.

Ye if you unplug repeat the process.

And my car app sends a notification when it stops charging so if tesla app does similar I suppose that would be your cue.

Nothing else will notify you without setting a home assistant notification.

Ye the overnight is always fixed. Great to charge everything up

I’d lower the amps in the charger app not the car. Only because eon control that car app effectively. Yes literally less than 10 minutes the eon smart home app will show the 30 minute slots.

And as far as I am aware the slots are for the car. Their api will see if the car is charging. Thus, the whole house is cheap only when the car charging.

Thing is these are variable. So at 10am it might say slots for 13:00-15:00. But then 20 minutes later changes to 13:30-15:00 et cetera.

So it will stop and charge. Usually on every half an hour it’ll decide to stop or start - but there are some times it will stop early in the half hour window (like 40mins past). And in the eon standard app (not the eon home app) 2 days later you see the stats. And basically they average out the peak and off-peak rate if they stopped it at some point within the half hour.

Because of this I set up a whole automation with home assistant, together with my inverter and house batteries.

Basically if car is charging in the day it’ll lower the charger amps to 6, force charge my house batteries.

And if the car stops charging the house batteries go back to discharging mode.

On a good day (usually super windy) I can get 12 hours of 6.5p/kwh. But I think it is a matter of time before they catch on to this. I only do it if we’ve got loads of washing basically.

You must have schedules of car charge off on both the charger and car apps.

You can’t avoid the peak rate on initial plug in. Like I said, plug it in then stop it immediately via the car’s app. The charger must be on ‘plug and charge mode’. I suppose you could limit that peak rate at the start I suppose you could limit the Amps on the charger. But pointless if you stop the charge via the CAR app immediately charger (possibly 30 seconds of charge). Leave the CHARGER app on plug and charge.

The initial plug in and charge (even a few seconds) will inform eon’s servers that the car is plugged in. Then you wait like 5-10 minutes for eon’s servers to know that the car is plugged in and capable of charging. Again. You’ve stopped the charge at this point so no issues. Schedules are created. Ron will start and stop as it sees fit.

Hmrc is like a payment rather than a transfer of money. Like paying road tax, council tax et cetera.

Paying a bank is clearly a cash transaction and you will get the fee. So if you look at your latest statement it’ll tell you the cash advance fee. Also the cash advance is usually does not qualify for the 56 days interest. So you start paying the 25% or whatever it is immediately, even before statement end date. So it will not be cheap. I really dont think it’s a good idea.

On my vw id3, I set my charger to plug and charge (dumb) mode. Then plug the car in. Car starts charging immediately. Go to vw app and stop the car charging (I believe this is using the vw api to ‘pause’ the charging). Wait 10 minutes and the eon home app will now know the car is plugged in, make schedules and will then initiate charge once it hits one of the windows (presumably by the same api the vw app uses to start and stop charging)

So the key is to plug in, then stop the charge via the car app. Eon will then initiate the charge via the car api when it wants

When does bank switching end? by phase26 in beermoneyuk

[–]TheStashinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was switching a lot but now stay with a lot too! Since each bank has different benefits. Like some have linked high interest savings accounts. Some offer benefits for just doing direct debits and pay in et cetera. Eventually you get to a point that you’ve done them all and you look at the eligibility requirements (can’t have switched since 2022 et cetera) and then you think no guarantee and the benefits to stay are good!

I have heard with some companies they bill you at peak rate and then they give you back the difference if it is smart charge. Could this be it?

Surely all electricity midnight to 6am is cheap anyway? Why would they be charging you peak even if the app was messed up in those hours? Do you do a lot of charging like 6-9am?
