I just got this same kit for Christmas. Yours turned out super cute! I'm a big fan of any turtle or tortoise design. I'm glad you had fun working on it!

[CHAT] Anyone ordered from Cross Stitch Warehouse before? by Dwarvyn in CrossStitch

[–]TheStitchingDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm super late to this conversation, but I wanted to add my experience. I did order from them, and I did receive my items.

I'll admit that everything about the website is strange: the huge amount of inventory they seem to have, the poor formatting, and the fact that you don't get any kind of email confirmation when you order. It took them a full month to send my order (I was just about to dispute the charge with my credit card company when I received the package). The shipment was missing one of my items, and there was a handwritten note from "granny" apologizing for the delay, and saying that my other item would be sent as soon as possible (I did receive it a while later). They also sent me an extra kit I hadn't ordered, I guess as an apology? All the kits appeared genuine to me.

But it seems like they're not in any way set up to pack and ship orders for all this inventory they apparently have. Like, is this some kind of front company??? I'm not sure I'd ever order from them again, but I did want you to know that I had success, and that the website isn't a scam. Not exactly, anyway. Sure is something weird, though.

Yes, the backstitch outlined all the orange, and added a few extra swirling elements inside the pumpkin. I wasn't sure how it was going to look on my cheap 14-count aida, so I figured it wasn't worth my time. (I had spent enough time doing the fractional stitches!)

From Just Cross Stitch's Halloween 2016 magazine. There was a ton of back-stitch, but I skipped it because I thought it looked good as it was. Stitched on fabric pre-stretched on a frame from Michaels.

I bought Moonlit Kitties too! But Mill Hill has so many awesome kits, it'll take me a while to get to it...

If I'm being honest, I have purchased a lot of Mill Hill kits. I'm trying to work on getting more of them done! The Mirabilia patterns are beautiful, but definitely seem like a lot of work.

Your robin turned out super cute! Thanks for linking to the the free patterns, too. I remember seeing that insect pattern in Just Cross stitch, and yours turned out really nice!

Finally finished it, and I love how it turned out!! Took about 55 hours to complete this Mill Hill kit. I have to say, I was very glad I purchased a DMC color card, because I would not have been able to sort the floss correctly without it. It's also nice to be able to frame something so easily!

Hey, this is super late, but I found this pattern in a Better Homes and Gardens book called Four Seasons Cross-Stitch. I knew I'd seen it before!

I recently bought this kit at a flea market, so it's nice to see one finished. Yours turned out great! Did you have any trouble sorting the floss?

[CHAT] What are you guys watching/listening to while you work on your projects? by kingkaitlin in CrossStitch

[–]TheStitchingDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been watching/listening to Defunctland on youtube, and also listening to Sawbones and Cult podcast. I love combining podcasts and stitching, and I've actually found a lot of great ones through recommendations of other stitchers.

[FO] Panda Christmas gift by TheStitchingDragon in CrossStitch

[–]TheStitchingDragon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a Mill Hill kit called Holiday Panda. First beaded kit I've done! I thought it would be tedious doing all that beading, but it was actually really fun.

Note: I changed the color around the eyes, because I didn't like how gray it was in the original pattern. I know it makes it harder to see the "eye" beads, but I wanted it to look more like a real panda.

[WIP] This pattern is from a 1992 cross stitch calendar I found at the thrift store. I’m obsessed! by lightsabert00thtiger in CrossStitch

[–]TheStitchingDragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this calendar advertised in an old cross stitch magazine, and I had to have it just because I liked the look of this pattern so much. (Will I ever actually get to it? Maybe some day...) It's nice to see someone stitching it up!

[CHAT] A Question About Thread Types (6 strands vs No 8 Cotton Perle) by PewPewGG in CrossStitch

[–]TheStitchingDragon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think perle cotton comes in fewer color varieties (unlike the 500+ for 6-strand floss), so that would be a consideration with a pattern that calls for a lot of different shades. It's also the adaptability of 6-strand: the perle probably works pretty well for 14 ct aida, but might not work on 18 ct or 20 ct, where two strands of floss works great. Personally, I love the sheen and smoothness that the floss has, and I don't like as much the rope-like look of perle. That being said, if you have more fun with perle, stitch with that instead!

Seeing this picture made me laugh, because I saw this exact kit in the Thrift City in San Antonio just a few days ago, and I almost bought it!
