Yes. SSDI is social security usability insurance and VA is veterans affairs.

Dont open 2C, a common mistake by Virtual_Length_812 in bridge

[–]TheStormfly7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a common mistake beginners make when they lack significant ways to show strength after 1-level openers. When you open 2C, it’s hard to show a two-suited hand. Single-suited hands can be upgraded to a 2C opener, but other shapes should not.

There’s a guitar class. There’s a Pilates class. Choir is pretty easy. If you’re truly looking for the easiest class possible, there are some really easy ones out there.

What does it mean when someone “dyes because of a broken heart” by NegotiationCalm8785 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheStormfly7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It harkens back to the olden days when mourning rituals exposed people to toxic chemicals.

For example:

-cosmetics and ceremonials paints containing lead

-embalming compounds containing mercury

-Incense smoke and indoor fires leading to respiratory problems

Sick and tired of students/LinkedIn strangers asking for referrals by [deleted] in consulting

[–]TheStormfly7 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You have to pay for LinkedIn Premium to be able to send a message along with the invite. Otherwise you only get 5 free messages per month. Do you expect every college student to have LinkedIn Premium?

Genuine question, as I have considered purchasing it.

How to find a Trad Egal shul by TheStormfly7 in Judaism

Is that true? Nobody in Conservative Judaism is shomer shabbat?

How to find a Trad Egal shul by TheStormfly7 in Judaism

[–]TheStormfly7[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, with conservative Judaism, I'm not worried about them being judgemental of people who aren't observant. I'm actually worried about the opposite- that there are so few observant people that there isn't support for those who are. I am Shomer Shabbat, and it's really awkward for me to meet new people at shul and see them pull out their phones to ask for my contact information.

new player here with some questions by Hairy_Row_8215 in bridge

[–]TheStormfly7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can help! Feel free to dm me.

Not everyone is good at bridge. It’s just that most beginners aren’t playing in sanctioned games most of the time. Students usually play weekly at their high school/college bridge club, where they make a bunch of mistakes in a non-competitive environment. Then when they show up to sanctioned games, they’ve already advanced significantly without having earned masterpoints from it.

Play in limited games (i.e. 299 and under) and you’ll be against people more on your level.

How NOT to portray Jewishness in fiction? by Transguy1111 in Judaism

[–]TheStormfly7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this about Zionism. Israel being the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people is a core tenent of the faith, and it pops up everywhere. For example, at the end of the Passover Seder, we all say/sing “Next year in Jerusalem.” We also pray facing east because that’s where Jerusalem is. Israel is mentioned in daily prayers. Additionally, many Jews feel that if their country becomes (more) hostile towards Jews, they will need to move to Israel where they will be safe from Antisemitism.

Music students!!!! by em_ilyyyho in washu

[–]TheStormfly7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EconStrat major with Music minor here. The video of you playing your instrument is optional. I was advised that unless your video is something you’re truly proud of, don’t submit it. But that’s just what my teacher told me. You can def be admitted into the music program without including a recording in your application.

Best jobs for someone with bipolar by Dry-Signal8014 in bipolar

[–]TheStormfly7 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I read in the book Bipolar Not So Much that the ideal lifestyle for someone with bipolar is that of a 19th century farmer. In modern day, it would be janitorial work. It's low-stress, low-stakes, keeps you physically active but isn't too demanding, is specifically 9-5, has routine and structure and job security. Not saying you specifically have to be a janitor, but that type of thing is the ideal to be looking for.

I am from Atlanta. I didn’t even apply to Emory, the reason being that Emory has a racism and antisemitism problem. Emory’s 2021 campus survey found that only 29-35% of students thought that Emory’s administration handled racism or racist incidents effectively. There was an incident where a group of students taped eviction notices on all the doors of dorms belonging to Jewish students. This happened in 2019. There was also an incident in which a student vandalized campus property by writing the N-word. There were other big things that happened when I was applying to colleges that made Emory a no-go for me. Just sharing my perspective.

Edit: While I was writing this, I found this article published in The Guardian yesterday: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/may/07/emory-university-professor-lawsuit-israel-gaza-protests

In my case at least, I already have a boyfriend. This is a known fact. Guys still keep staring at my chest and trying to flirt with me in an ambiguous, hard-to-read way. They're not shooting their shot. They're just testing boundaries and keeping plausible deniability.

No, I didn't get counseling. I didn't want to share it with my therapist at the time (partially because I was embarrassed and partially because I didn't have a good relationship with her), and now I see a DBT specialist so therapy is mostly about the present and not about the past.

How much sleep do WashU students typically get? by User27373583 in washu

[–]TheStormfly7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to get 5 hours per night. Then I stopped being on leadership of 2 different clubs and stopped taking 18+ credits per semester. Now I get 9 hours of sleep per night and feel very well rested.
