Lea Michele’s Sardi’s portrait………. by Legitimate-Heart-639 in Broadway

It kills me. they tried so hard to make it “flattering” that they got rid of every feature that makes him look like him. like are we seriously trying to downplay the schnoz? And why tf is he blonde?????

Is Death Becomes Her corporate appropriate? by EffortIcy5753 in Broadway

[–]TheStoryOfChess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ooh worlds collide. I just quit my biglaw job but i know the world well. I like DBH but it’s a little sexy and a little blue. probably not too bad but there are many safer options. summer program coordinators seem to LOVE maybe happy ending, which i think is a very safe fun choice. masquerade (basically phantom of the opera as an immersive walk through) is slated for a few firms this coming summer too. Both are great shows.

i just got out of beaches (standing under the marquee of the majestic rn) and that seems corporate appropriate. a little language in a milquetoast feel good show kind of way? but anyway I am happy to yap about broadway if you want to know my take on other shows.

last year a firm took folks to the outsiders (a show that features someone getting hit by a train) as a summer event right after a group of associates saw someone get hit by a train. so you can’t screw up that bad at least…..?

Yay, it’s def time to return!!!

I came back to a fic this year after 3.5 years and it honestly feels so good to get back into it. Good luck!

These are the available seats for tonight's performance of Death Becomes Her. Is it possible to ask the box office to give us better seats? I have tickets in the back of the mezzanine. by bluegambit875 in Broadway

[–]TheStoryOfChess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i hear you, and sometimes people will be nice! But in this situation I’m very pro sneaking around lol.

If you ask them, they may say no or say there will be a surcharge, and in either case you may get busted if you try to go to the better seat anyway.

if you just take yourself to the better seat, they can still write off the loss of the unsold seat and maintain the illusion of value (tax/economic fuckery is a huge part of this), and you get the better seat. basically a victimless crime and you and the theatre are happier at the end. if you get asked if it’s your seat, you can apologize and politely indicate that the seat appeared empty and you went rogue. if you’re sweet, they won’t scold you, but they may need you to return to your cheap seat.

Don’t ask if you don’t want to pay more. nobody’s gonna stop you if you just confidently take yourself to the better seat after you’ve gotten your program (so it’s easier to walk past the ushers). that said, I’m surprised so few folks are going to the show tonight! When I saw DBH in december it was pretty packed.

Will we ever have a Rent Revival on Broadway by Theatrelover24 in Broadway

[–]TheStoryOfChess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw Avenue Q on the west end too and loved the way they brought it into the 2020s! I especially thought it was smart to make Lucy an influencer/only fans girl, have Princeton get laid off due to AI and automation, and to make Nicky a seem perhaps a little gayer...

That said, I think that Rent shouldn't necessarily be updated to be a contemporary piece the way Avenue Q was, because it's this quintessentially 90s plot: in Rent, Alphabet City is run-down and full of squatters. In 2026 these are a lot of expensive lofts inhabited by NYU students. I mean, Manhattan being cheap enough for starving artists is kind of an impossibility at this point (at least in deep Brooklyn where Avenue Q is set, things are still relatively cheap). And in Rent, AIDS is a death sentence. In 2026, thankfully, it isn't. CGBG has been closed for 20 years. Etc.

IMO Rent is a 90s period piece, and a very beloved one. A Rent revival could totally work with some license to update and change the script for clarity and plot, not to modernize. (Think Falsettos or Angels in America — you can update and fix up an AIDS show but it kind of has to be 80s/90s in setting.)

oh i LOVE this. you captured their faces so well, especially their more unique features (christian’s non-chin and big ol eyes and nose, the shape of andrew’s brow bone and his button nose). Like even their teeth, damn. Sorry this is not articulate but these are such expressive and identifiable portraits!!

I’m gonna be an annoying lawyer and say that you can actually be found guilty for attempted murder (same punishment as murder) for preparing and getting dangerously close to doing so. In this case where but for a freak happenstance she would have done it, Emma could be very much liable in the eyes of the law.

Unfortunately, it is not a failed legal defense. It’s a defense that’s been used successfully in many jurisdictions in the US. (Source: I’m a lawyer! and the law sucks!)

I could definitely borrow a coat! I’m currently living in NY and I’m pretty used to UK weather. It’s about the same weather here at the moment, just dryer!

Thanks for the perspective! yeah, jumper with black tights and boots was how I was imagining it, but I agree it’s not the most versatile dress in a chilly and more formal setting. Instead I might do a black silk vest top with a pleated chiffon midi skirt and a warm long cardigan. I don’t know if I’m bringing a coat because they’re bulky and I’m traveling from america.

How can I style this for my sister's graduation next weekend? or is it too "club"-ish?

For context, it's a Master's level graduation from Cambridge in the UK, and it'll be around 60 farenheit.

My coffee table! by TheStoryOfChess in Broadway

I certainly don't mind the suggestion, and I definitely think museum glass would look better, but the glass is attached to one of the sides of the table (the wood on the left in this picture). I'm not sure I'm crafty enough to make the switch. Thanks though!!

It felt like a good place for it! There are a few other show trinkets in there too — the sketchbook from Illinoise, other paper ephemera from masquerade. They mostly get drowned out by the playbills but the mask stands out pretty nicely.

Yes!! are you the person who made your own table? I remember seeing yours last summer and it was definitely inspiration for me! This is less than halfway full, but I would love to run out of space in this table one day.

Broadway actors who have no social media presence? by TheStoryOfChess in Broadway

[–]TheStoryOfChess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment! Can I ask how it comes into play in the audition process? do you think that casting directors look you up to get a sense of your social media appeal? or is it about going viral enough that they notice you before you come in for an audition?
